Levelling of the cricket pitch

Two inviting murals

Intention to Apply for Year 7 Entry to a Selective High School in 2021 Selective high schools cater for academically high potential and gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard. Selective schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and materials. Selective high schools are unzoned so parents can apply regardless of where they live. Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 12 March 2020. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2021, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address). Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from late-September 2019 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7 The application website opens at that link on 8 October 2019 and closes at 10pm on 11 November 2019. You must apply before the closing date. There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after 8th October 2019. You must submit only ONE application for each student. Thank you Volunteers and P&C A huge thank you to Miss Workman, Mrs Tanner, Mrs Baker and the wonderful TAFE and parent volunteers who assisted at the Colour Run last term. A great time was had by all! Thank you to Mrs Bates for providing succulents for our gardens and to Mrs Andersson, Mrs Tanner and Zoe for the great planting effort at the Working Bee. Student Health Please be aware that we do have children at risk of anaphylaxis and we ask that parents are mindful of what is packed for recess and lunch. Our teachers continually teach and remind students about how sharing food can impact on the health and wellbeing of others. Please reinforce this message with your child. If any there are any changes to your child’s health needs, please update this information at the office. It is essential the school is aware if your child has asthma, allergies or any medical conditions. Child Protection and Respectful Relationships Education All classes will be completing Child Protection units of work this term. This education aims to assist students in:

developing skills in recognising and responding to unsafe situations

seeking assistance effectively

establishing and maintaining respectful and equal relationships

strengthening attitudes and values related to equality, respect and responsibility. Further information will be provided in Stage term overviews. Getting Ready for Kindergarten 2020 Our Kindergarten students for 2020 will commence their transition sessions this week. Parents will also be engaging in sessions to learn more about Ermington PS and Department of Education procedures. If you are yet to enrol your child for Kindergarten 2020, please see our wonderful office team. The P&C Meeting is being held this Wednesday at 7pm. Please join us in the library.

Kindergarten Welcome back to Term 4! We hope the students had a lovely break and are ready to do some wonderful learning. Our topic for this term is ‘Fairy Tales’ and we will be learning to write a procedure. Please return your Teddy Bear’s Picnic Excursion note if you have not done so already. We are looking forward to taking our favourite teddy on a picnic in the bush. Gymnastics starts this week and will run on a Friday. There will not be any Kindergarten Sport Friday morning, however if parents would like to help in the classroom it would be appreciated. This week the Kindergarten Transition Program starts, we look forward to meeting the new Kindergarten students! This week’s news topic will be talking about something special you did in the holidays and bring in a photograph or drawing. Sight words for this week are shelter, food and clothes. This week’s sound is ‘er’. Stage 1 Welcome back to an always very busy Term 4! As you wander through our lovely Ermington PS grounds, take a moment to admire our fabulous new signage which has really lifted many previously unnoticed spots in our school. We have a few changes to former routines this term. Rather than on Fridays, our regular K-2 assemblies will now take place on Thursdays in weeks 2, 6 and 10, from 12.30 onwards. As always, we look forward to seeing you there! Our wonderful Mr Clark will now be taking each Stage 1 class individually for grade sport on Friday. In addition, our students will also be participating in Gymnastics on Tuesdays for Year 2 and Fridays for Year 1, including 1/2W. Students will need to wear their sports uniform on their Gymnastics day. This week in mathematics we are studying Mass and our Spelling focus is 'Revision' - so any previous words are up for targeting. We are all looking forward to an engaging and enjoyably busy Term 4!

Stage 2 Welcome back to Term 4 and it is going to be a very busy one indeed. We are starting a new Science unit of work on the Earth, Sun and Moon which includes some very exciting lessons. The students are participating in gymnastics lessons this term and are required to wear their sport uniform on their allocated day. Surf Education is in Week 4 at Freshwater Beach. Thank you to those families who have returned their permission slip and payment. Please return these ASAP if you already haven’t done so. We trust that everyone had an enjoyable break and are ready for a full term of exciting things to learn about. Enjoy your week and this glorious weather. Stage 3 This term is really a big one for Stage 3 especially Year 6. This week we begin our gymnastic lessons which are really enjoyed by all and our singer’s ore attending the Ryde Spectacular for a rehearsal on Tuesday and performance on Friday, consequently there will be no PSSA sport this week. Our school is looking very colourful with the murals and signs and this fosters pride in keeping our school looking beautiful. Litter has been dramatically reduced and everyone is trying hard to recycle responsibility. This week Year 6 will begin preparing for the mini fete which will be held on Friday, 13th December. 5G and 4/5T made virtual pets using the school's Microbits. They programmed them using the MakeCode website then made fun, appealing casing using recycled materials.

In Week 10 of last term some school sport groups enjoyed preparing the school garden beds for planting season. The students weeded the garden beds, removed spent plants and enriched the soil with the product of our composting system! Thanks to Miss Taylor for her invaluable guidance!

Library News Welcome back to Term 4. It's a busy time in the Library this term and we're really looking forward to exploring the aspects quality literature during our last term of the year. If you found any books belonging to the Library over the holidays, you can drop them in any morning after 8:30, or they can come back during normal Library time. Book Fair is coming to EPS This year our Book Fair is on Grandparents' Day - Monday November 4th, and we're trying a new supplier - Carnival Books. Books make great Christmas presents. Did you know in Iceland, on Christmas Eve, it's traditional to give books and then stay in to read them. The Christmas Eve book-giving tradition is the culmination of a months-long national literary celebration called jólabókaflóð or the "Christmas Book Flood." Sounds good if you ask me.

Nude Food Day Did you know that 50% of items in school bins comes from food and drink packaging from home? Please help us reduce this number by participating in Nude Food Day. Nude food is simply food that is not stored in foil, cling wrap or commercial packaging. Nude Food Day will be on Wednesday 16th October. Please help support this great cause by packing your child's food and drink in reusable containers and bottles.
