They were looking for a preacher and I was looking for a place to preach. The elders impressed me as they shared their vision for the Lord’s work in White Bluff. I have been blessed immeasurably by their decision to invite me to be their preacher. There were many things I needed to learn: character flaws that needed to be corrected, faith that needed to be deepened, and truths about God that needed to be trusted more. I needed to become more Christ-like so I could become a better man. This had to happen before I could improve as a preacher. It has been a privilege to study the Bible so I could know God. It also has been a privilege to teach the word of God to others. It has been rewarding for me to see those: Who accepted the grace of God; Who showed deep love for God; Who were generous to the Lord’s work; Who turned the other cheek in the face of those who were evil, and; Who were faithful in difficult circumstances. Thank you for the party, for all the kind words, and the gifts. Thank you for every act of kindness given to the Couch family. I am grateful for every word of encouragement, every piece of advice, & every act of love. Thank you for your love for God and having a great desire to see His kingdom increase. Thank you for loving Jesus Christ, the great Savior of the world. Thank you for loving the Scriptures and your desire to hear Christ proclaimed in them. Anything good that was accomplished is because of God, who is the Source from whom all good things flow. No one can be sure what the future holds for any of us, but we can certainly trust the One who holds the future within His hand. I love you all & look forward to our gathering in eternity to be with the God who loves us all deeply “with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3). Doug Couch At times my spirit is either dumb or dead; I feel nothing. I come to worship like some programed robot. O God, forgive me; “Spirit of the Living God, fall fresh on me.” …and I shall put a new spirit within them.
