CLB 1 - Getting StartedBegin to participate in Canadian culture. Learnto greet people and introduce yourself; ask andanswer simple questions; fill out simple forms;understand basic math concepts, tell time and useCanadian money.

CLB 2 - Moving OnThrough listening, speaking, reading and writingactivities along with grammar and vocabularydevelopment, this course will help you to engage
in conversation; increase ability to read and writesimple English tasks and gain more independenceto settle in Ottawa.
Prerequisite: Working on CLB 2.
CLB 3 - Feeling at Home in EnglishExpand basic language skills for everyday andacademic purposes; participate in conversationson a variety of familiar and new topics; begin tolink simple sentences; read a variety of adaptedtexts; and expand knowledge of vocabulary andgrammatical structures.
Prerequisite: Working on CLB 3
CLB 4- Moving Towards Your GoalsBe part of a friendly atmosphere where individualneeds are considered. Prepare for more advanced
specialty courses. Learn new vocabulary foreveryday conversation and practice writing skills.The course includes field trips, guest speakers andmany cultural events.
Prerequisite:Working on CLB 4.
CLB5 Aiming HigherGain confidence in using English in both formaand informal situations. Focus will be on idiomphrases, slang, introduction of Job Search andinterview techniques and improving writing skto be able to write simple paragraphs and letteas to more effectively begin settling in Ottawa
Prerequisite:Working on CLB 5 in two skill areas.
CLB 6 New HorizonsThis course is designed to increase confidencecommunicate effectively, both in the classroom
and in the larger community. Classroom activitwill include: student oral presentations; readinand understanding newspaper articles; writingsimple reports; understanding grammaticalconcepts; refine listening skills through authenTV and radio broadcasts.
Prerequisite: Working on CLB 6 in two skill areas.
CLB 7 + Widening PerspectivesThrough a combination of practical skills andacademic learning this course will prepare youa successful life in Canada. Refine presentationconversation skills, use of idiomatic phrases, anfocus on reading and writing for employment academic purposes. Improve fluency, confidenand refine social networking skills.
Prerequisite:Working on CLB 7 or higher.

ESL Childcare Worker ProgramThe objective of this course is to prepare studentsfor self-sustainable employment through openinga home daycare, or working as an assistant in alicensed daycare, or prepare for ECE training throughcolleges. Students will receive 30 hours of hands-onpracticum experience as well as First Aid and CPRtraining. To successfully complete this course 80%attendance is required in addition to the hands-onpracticum.
Prerequisite: Working on CLB 5 in Listening and Speakingand CLB 4 in Reading and Writing.

ESL Office AssistantThis course is designed to provide students withsufficient skills and knowledge to find entry levelemployment in an office setting. Students willacquire vocabulary specific to office procedures,business terminology, and data entry and specificcomputer applications. Students will have theopportunity to practice what they learn in theclassroom in a 30-hour hands-on placement.
Prerequisite: Students interested in this course shouldbe comfortable with technology and have a basicknowledge of computers. Students should be workingon CLB 5 in Reading and Writing and CLB 6 in Listeningand Speaking.

Food and Beverage Smart ServeCertificationThis new training program covers the requiredlanguage and skills for employment in the growinghospitality industry in Ottawa. It includes 30 hoursof work placement training. Upon successfulcompletion of the course and test students will earnan Ontario SMART SERVE Certificate.
