WARMUP EXPLANATION
After students finish making their boxes, everyone takes out an eraserand copies the teacher. The ALT places the eraser on the box andthen says “on the box”. Students imitate. In this way, introduce thefour below phrases.
ON THE BOX
箱の上
IN THE BOX
箱の中
BY THE BOX
箱のそば
UNDER THE BOX
箱の下
After the above repetition, the ALT places flash cards on the board showingthe four examples and the JTE explains each of the phrases in Japanese. The students then repeat each phrase several more times, at which point theJTE can quiz in Japanese and the students can answer in English.

PAIR PRACTICE INTERVIEWS
Give each student the below worksheet. Ideally, put an A3 copy on theboard. The ALT and JTE demonstrate together. The ALT says, “1 – Where's the ball?” The JTE looks at picture 1 and replies, “It's in the box.”
Demonstrate and repeat with students until they understand the pattern. Then students can work in pairs, where each student asks or answersquestions for two minutes, at which point they switch roles and repeat.
Give each student a two-sided printout, where one side is the greensheet below and the other is the yellow sheet below (there is no need touse these colors – white is perfectly good). Also, give each student two
copies of the five objects. Using tape or glue and one of each of the fiveobjects, each student decorates his or her own room as he or she likes. This should be done somewhat secretively so that neighboring studentscannot see it.
The ALT and JTE demonstrate the interview using A3 printouts on the chalkboard. The ALT asks the JTE, “Where's the cat?” The JTE looks at his or her own greensheet and replies with the cat's location. For example, “It's on the bed.” On theALT's yellow sheet, the ALT takes a cat printout and tapes or glues it on the bed. Byrepeating for various objects, the ALT can make a copy of the JTE's room. Then
students make pairs and do the same kind of interview. At the end of the interview, they show each other their sheets and check that they match.
Where's the ball?(例) A: Where 's the ball? ボールはどこですか?
B: It's in the box. それは箱の中にある。
