ESSAY TEST 2 (PAG 88) MEASURES TO HELP PEOPLE TO LIVE HEALTHIER LIVES Over the last 15 years the number of obese people and smokers has increased by a huge margin. This has become a major issue above all in developed countries, affecting the quality of life of millions of people and therefore having serious consequences for a cuntry’s economy and healthcare services. There are many practical steps that governments should take to tackel this problem, but the following two would probably be the most effective. Firstly, governments should impose stricter laws in order to ban the manufacture and sale of junk food to children at schools. The government should also prohibit advertisements of fast food chains at times when children are likely to be watching television. Manufactured food should also be required to show its composition and the amount of calories it contains. Secondly, a good education has an important role to play to raise awareness about the importance of having healthy habits. With regard to children, this measure should be taken at primary school. This measure should also be aimed to adults, thus, they would be concerned about having a well-balanced diet and being active through, for instance, TV documentaries or magazine articles. Of the two measures outlined above, I think education is the more effective one. It is more far-reaching in relation to all aspects of living healthily. Moreover, it is, throug education that a person really learns how important is to have healthy habits and realizes that is always bettherto go to an aerobic class that to stay at home watching TV. 253 WORDS
