One good way to have a steady supply of healthy, fresh vegetable is to develop an organic garden. Itdoes take some time and effort, though. You can choose from many different seeds. Turn the handles of tools you have on hand into rulers to make measurements in your garden. Toolswith long handles such as hoes and rakes can double as measuring sticks. After laying the handleson the floor, run the measuring tape along beside them. Label the distances on the handle with amarker pen that will not smear or fade away. You will never find yourself looking for a ruler thanksto this simple tip.

If you notice powdery mildew on your plants, do not buy an expensive chemical. Try mixing a littleliquid soap with some baking soda in water. Spray this mixture on your plants weekly until themildew is gone. Baking soda won't harm your plants, and takes care of the mildew efficiently andgently.

If you want to cover up your walls or fences, make sure that you specifically use climbing plants.Known commonly as climbers, these plants are very versatile, easy to grow, and they will quicklyspread out to cover up walls and fences within a single season. No need to worry if a bush or tree isin the way, as climbers can grow through them. Also, they can match the shape of an arbor. Sometypes of climbers support themselves naturally through twining stems or tendrils, but others willhave to be attached to something. Climbing roses, honeysuckle, wisteria, clematis, and jasmine aresome great plants to try out.

Bulbs will give you wonderful flowers that you can enjoy in early spring and right through thesummer. Bulbs are usually very hearty and very easy to grow, and bulbs will grow year after year.Include a variety of plantings to get a full season of flowers, from early bloomers to late-seasonvarieties.

Knee pads are a gardener's friend when caring for plants low to the ground. Without pads, you mayhave pain in your knees from spending too much time kneeling on the hard ground. Having a goodpair of knee pads will cushion your knees in comfort.

Make sure that you divide your irises! You can get more irises by dividing the overgrown clumps.You can do this by simply picking up bulbous irises once the foliage has withered. The bulbs shouldsplit up normally in the hand, and should flower when replanted for the next year. If you have arhizome you will need to split it with a knife. Cut healthy pieces from the root stalk and throw outthe dead center. Every piece is suppose to have at least one durable offshoot. The quicker you canreplant your cuttings, the better chances they will reappear next season.

A good green garden should start from seeds and not plants. When you begin a garden, it's most ecofriendly to do so with seed. Very few nurseries recycle the plastics that they use as containers fortheir plants, so the majority of these containers are thrown away and dumped in landfills. Therefore,it is better for the environment to plant a garden with seeds or to find a nursery that packages itsplants using organic materials.
