Les verbes en –er réguliers
THE INFINITIVE – WHAT IS IT?
It is the BASIC FORM of the verb.
The infinitive is often identified in English
by the word “to” preceding it.
The LARGEST group of French infinitives
are those that END in “er.”
When verbs are in a group (like the “er”
verbs) they ALL conjugate with the SAME
endings!
NOW LET’S TALK ABOUT VERBS!
CONJUGATING Where do I begin?
STEM
For regular verbs, it is VERY important to know which endings match with which subjects.
For les verbes « er » the endings are… Je (e) Nous (ons) Tu (es) Vous (ez) Il/Elle (e) Ils/Elles (ent)
Completing the puzzle
ALL REGULAR –er verbs, the singular subject pattern is:
Aimer = Aimer = aim
Je – STEM + e J’ aime Tu – STEM + es Tu aimes Il – STEM + e Il aime Elle – STEM + e Elle aime

For ALL REGULAR –er verbs, the plural subject pattern is:
