Arizona’s $21 Billion Tourism Industry
is focal point of weeklong celebration
Helen Neuharth, President/CEO
National Travel and Tourism Week, May 7 to May 13, unites communities across the country in celebration of what travel means to American jobs,
economic growth and personal well-being. The travel industry employs a prosperous and diverse workforce, from hotel employees to restau-rant, attraction and retail workers, and supports re-lated sectors such as construction, manufacturing and finance. In Arizona alone, 180,000 jobs are supported by travel and tourism. Travel and tourism in Arizona generates $2.9 billion in federal, state and local tax revenue. Debbie Johnson, director of the AZ Office of Tourism said, ”Tourism is Arizona’s number one ex-port industry, and it is the only industry in the state that positively impacts all 15 counties,” adding that “Every dollar spent by visitors helps lessen the tax burden of Arizona households.” In Casa Grande and Pinal County, the tourism industry brings in dollars in many ways, from hotels, motels and resorts, golf courses, restaurants, stores, business services - actually, almost every business and industry in the area enjoys the positive benefits of tourism. The chamber is also the official AZ Office of Tourism Visitor Center in Casa Grande. When plan-ning your Arizona vacations or stay-cations, we in-vite you to stop by and pick up maps and brochures and a Community Calendar. The office is open Mon-day – Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Let’s see our beautiful state and build our economy at the same time!
