POWER SYSTEM STABILIZER TUNINGe-terraphasoranalytics was used to identify local, inter-area and island modes and their damping and relative phase of oscillations. The contribution of other parts of the network to damping at the PSS location was also calculated. With the help of e-terraphasoranalytics a power-input PSS design that addresses the main dynamic issues of concern was selected and tuned for optimal performance.

� Multiple data sources support: e-terraphasoranalytics brings data from various sources, such as PMU, simulation results, and SCADA/EMS into a single visualization and analysis context, which is required to successfully accomplish the envisioned uses of the application. For example, it is desirable to be able to compare and contrast the PMU observations against the simulation reconstructions across multiple domains (time-domain, frequency-domain, etc.) for dynamic model validation purposes. Similarly, post-mortem analysis requires both PMU data and SCADA/EMS data to effectively identify the sequence of events and understand the underlying root causes.

� e-terraphasoranalytics offers a unified platform for homogenizing data from multiple sources for consumption by its advanced analytics and for contextualizing within its interactive user interface.

DYNAMIC MODEL VALIDATIONA significant disturbance in the summer of 2013 was captured by PMU measurements and carefully analyzed. When the event was reconstructed using the dynamic models, there was considerable deviation between the simulated and measured data.e-terraphasoranalytics was utilized to study the reasons for this mismatch. The application was able to identify the particular oscillatory mode (a 1.1Hz mode in this case) that was associated with the mismatch, along with the observability of this mode at various locations thereby suggesting the potential region and location within the system model associated with the modeling inaccuracy.

BIG DATA ANALYTICSe-terraphasoranalytics was an invaluable tool for baselining the dynamic performance using long duration power system data (several weeks to months), to explore and understand the typical oscillatory behavior of their power system (i.e. local and inter-area modes, where they are observable, their typical damping levels, etc). This information was utilized to fine-tune and set alert/alarm parameters for the real-time Oscillatory Stability Monitoring (OSM) capability being used in the control room.

POST-EVENT ANALYSIS TO VALIDATE REMEDIAL ACTION SCHEME OPERATIONFollowing the loss of the HDVC link, the protection engineers at an utility were able to utilize e-terraphasoranalytics and PMU captures to swiftly identify the effectiveness of a RAS scheme in maintaining grid reliability.
