ETHNOBOTANICAL SURVEY OF MEDICINAL PLANTS IN

WARANGALRURAL DISTRICT, TELANGANA, INDIA

ABSTRACT

Collection of medicinal plant is known as ethno botanical survey of

medicinal plants. Collection medicinal plants most important for

further documentation. Ethno botanical survey was conducted in

various, indigenous groups in Warangal rural district of Telangana.

The information was collected from herbal practitioners and journals.

The present survey provided information about eighty medicinal plants

with medicinal properties. The herbal practitioners and rural peoples

are helped to identify and collect medicinal plants. In these plants some

are used to treat common skin diseases and some are used to treat

dangerous diseases like gonorrhea, syphilis, tuberculosis, cancer etc.

KEYWORDS: Medicinal plants, herbal practitioners, ethno botanical Survey diseases.

INTRODUCTION

Ayurvedic medicines are most important in our life. They cure illness without any side effect.

The information given in this paper includes teluguname, scientific name, family, which part

used, direction and use. There so many drugs are to treat illness but long term used of this

synthetic medicine associated with various adverse effects like tolerance, resiststance, nausea,

vomiting drowsiness, dizziness, and abdominal pain.[1]

Therefore, search for new drugs is

essential from natural source. Since the time man first discovered the plant kingdom as a rich

and convenient source of his food, he returned to this kingdom repeatedly and found

remedies for illness too. As a result, several knowledge-bases of how to treat or prevent

illness and diseases using plants were generated.[2]

Chhattisgarh, the Herbal state in India, is

situated in Deccan biogeographical area. The forests of the state fall under two major forest

types, i.e., Tropical Moist Deciduous forest and the Tropical Dry Deciduous forest. The state

of Chhattisgarh is endowed with about 22 varied forest sub-types existing in the state. Most

of the medicinal valuable species are in the category of on-Nationalized Non-Wood Forest

Produces are the one on which the state does not have any monopolistic control. The rich and

unique biological diversity comprises of 911 genera and 196 families. The state is

significantly rich in endemism with respect to many plants having medicinal importance.[3,4]

Many traditional healers and herbalists in the Chhattisgarh region of India have been treating

helminthiasis patients for many years using various medicinal plant species.[5]

So intensive

plant survey have been performed to explore plants effective against helminthiasis used by

the traditional healers of Chhattisgarh. Since the origin of life on earth man has been in

harmony with the nature. The nature provides a lot of Knowledge about plant wealth.

Traditionally this information has been passed from generation to generation which has being

practiced by the indigenous group of people of different areas These group of people possess

the distinct food habits, culture, which reflects the traditional medicine. Even today, this

herbal medicine is in practice to cure variety of diseases. Hence research on these plants is of

utmost importance to detect more number of properties about these plants. This herbal

medicine has been practicing in rural areas for different diseases. Implication of the

knowledge of those indigenous people into practice helped the researchers to develop the

present formulation into a better approach with more therapeutic effect. This survey is

conducted to make a place for many unrecognized medicinal plants in clinical trials. Many

studies have been conducted on these plants in different areas in order to evaluate their

properties. About 40 plants were collected which are very useful to treat various diseases

caused by helminths. This research led us to work on more plants which play a key role in

treating various diseases caused. Further proceedings on these plants may probably reveal

many properties that can cure various diseases. These plants are the basics for the traditional

Ayurveda system which does not show more side effects.[6]

Collection of Medicinal Plants[6-16]

The present investigation was conducted using questionnaire in rural areas situated around

Narsampet, Warangal Rural, Telangana. The main aim of this study is to collect the oral

information about the medicinal plants from the natives who were being practicing from

generations together.

CONCLUSION

Based on the above information all the above medicinal plants are traditionally used

medicinal plants. We had collected eighty traditionally used medicinal plants in Warangal

district. This survey tried to make everybody being known about natural medicines and uses,

as well as documentation of medicinal plants.
