eTrack 1-1 Bs&Dr (Key-G_Mode-A Dorian_BPM-112).wav The same backing, but with bass and drums only.

eTrack 1-1 Lick.mp3 The backing track with Paul playing the featured lick.

    Original Key

    G Major

    Original Tempo

    Quarter note = 112 BPM

    Suggested Scales

G Major (A Dorian mode), A Blues, A Minor Pentatonic

    Pauls Notes

This track features the II and III chords in the key of G Major: A Minor and B Minor. Since the sound is centered around the II chord (A Minor), this is

known as A Dorian mode. For improvising, all the G Major scale patterns work great; just make sure to feature A as the root. The A Blues scale and A

    Minor Pentatonic scales rock, too.

The original tempo of this track is 112 BPM, so its not too fast for 16th notes, and its a good tempo for practicing 16th-note triplets. If you want to adjust

the tempo of this eTrack (or any other), use eBands SPEED control. Also, dont forget to practice your vibrato!

An eBand guitar tone that I like to use while jamming along with this eTrack is P041 JB LEAD.

The featured lick below works great over this eTrack. It uses A Dorian and A Blues scales, and it ascends horizontally up the neck. Have fun!

eTrack 1-2 Bs&Dr (Key-G_Mode-B Phrygian_BPM-106).wav The same backing, but with bass and drums only.

eTrack 1-2 Lick.mp3 The backing track with Paul playing the featured lick.

    Original Key

    G Major

    Original Tempo

    Quarter note = 106 BPM

    Suggested Scales

G Major (B Phrygian mode), E Harmonic Minor

    Pauls Notes

This track is based around a B Minor chord, the III chord in the key of G Major. Though the sound is centered around B Minor, were still using notes from

the G Major scalethis is B Phrygian mode. As with the first eTrack, all the G Major scale patterns work again. This time, though, make sure to feature

    B as the new root.

When I recorded this eTrack, I left the minor third (D) out of the B Minor chord, so you can treat it as B Major chord if you like. To create a B Major sound,

play an E Harmonic Minor scale over it. When you play that scale over a B Major or B7 chord, its called B Phrygian Dominant mode, and it has a cool

    Spanish kind of sound.

The original tempo here is 106 BPM. Again, not too fast for 16th notes and a good tempo for practicing 16th-note triplets. For jamming to this eTrack, I

like eBand effects preset P035 STACK LEAD. The featured lick below is a simple E Minor scale pattern, but over this eTrack it sounds very exotic. I play itas 16th-note triplets.

eTrack 1-3 Lick.mp3 The backing track with Paul playing the featured lick.

    Original Key

    A Major

    Original Tempo

    Quarter note = 56 BPM

    Suggested Scales

A Major and A Minor Pentatonic, A Blues

    Pauls Notes

This is a traditional 12-bar quick change blues progression. Its a slow shuffle, with quarter notes at 56 BPM. You can also think of it as being in 12/8

time; in that case, an eighth note equals 168 BPM.

As a guitar teacher, I always tell my students that they should be able to play this kind of blues progression in their sleep. Its in the key of A, and A, D,

and E (I, IV, and V) are the only chords. I dont think you need a chart for this.

For jamming along with this eTrack, I like P041 JB LEAD.

The featured lick below is an A Dorian/Blues lick with fast triplet pull-offs.

    eTrack 1-4 (Key-G_Mode-C Lydian_BPM-136).wav Backing track with full-band accompaniment.

eTrack 1-4 Bs&Dr (Key-G_Mode-C Lydian_BPM-136).wav The same backing, but with bass and drums only.

eTrack 1-4 Lick.mp3 The backing track with Paul playing the featured lick.

    Original Key

    G Major

    Original Tempo

    Quarter note = 136 BPM

    Suggested Scales

    G Major (C Lydian mode)

    Pauls Notes

As you may have noticed, the first two eTracks in Volume 1 are in the same key, but they incorporate different modes; you use G Major scale patterns, but

the resulting sound is different in each eTrack. This is another modal eTrack, again using the G Major scale. But this time, the sound is centered around

the IV chord: C Major. The sound created here is called Lydian mode.

This track is straight eighth notes at a medium tempo (quarter note=136 BPM).

For jamming with this eTrack, try P043 ERUPTING. It includes a phaser effect that makes the tone swirl.

The featured lick below works great over this eTrack. Its a C Major arpeggio that sweeps up, and then it descends down through a C Lydian scale. Rock

    on!
