Go placidly amid the noise and haste and
remember what peace there may be in silence. As
far as possible without surrender be on good terms
with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and
clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and
ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and
aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may
become vain and bitter; for always there will be
greater and lesser .persons than yourself. Enjoy
your achievements as well as your plans. Keep
interested in your own career, however humble; it
is a real possession in the changing fortunes of
time. Excercise caution in your business affairs; for
the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind
you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for
high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
If a man does not keep pace with
his companions, perhaps it is
becausehe hears a different
drummer . . .
. . . Let him step to the music
which he hears, however
measured or far away.
Thoreau
2
Everything without
tells the individual he
is nothing; everything
within persuades him
he is everything.
Duodon
3
What need we teach a child . . . with our
books and rules?
Let him walk among the hills and flowers, let
him gaze upon the waters, let him look up to the
stars . . .
and he will have his wisdom.

The beginning of a new season is always difficult for players and
coaches alike. The 1971 season was no exception. Although the
Wolverines were defeated in their first threeencounters, they rallied
and remained undefeated for the rest of the year, closing the season
with a winning 6-3-0 record. Perhaps the most satisfactory victory
carne through the defeat of Nassau Community College -a long
standing rival of Wesley's.
As a reflection of the ability of the players and coaches alike, twelve
Wesley gridmen were named to the ALL REGION
XIXTEAM.Thosenamed were:
Ed Seiwell Center Scott Meseroll Linebacker John
Kerschner Linebacker Bill Brooks Defensive
Tackle Mike Feeley Defensive Tackle Earl
Passwaters Defensive End Andy Cress Defensive
Back Mike Brown Defensive Back Ed O'Reilly
Right Back Hank Sinatra Defensive Guard Gil Job
Punter Paul Harvey Extra Point Kicker
The crowning point of the season carne when Ed O 'Reilly became
the third player in the history of Wesley to gain ever 1,000 yards.

At the present time Wesley's wrestling team has a record of
two wins and one loss. Wesley got off to a good start
defeating the Community College of Baltimore 36 to 15 and
the Essex Community College 26 to 14, but then lost to
Catonsville Community College 29 to 11. With six dual
matches and two tournaments left on the schedule, the bulk
of the wrestling season will be concluded the second
semester. Coach Fisher is quite optimistic and hopes his
squad can continue its momentum for a winning season.
Currently Wesley boasts two undefeated wrestlers. Don
Robinson at the 134 lb weight class is 3-0 and Tom Orner is
3-0 at the 177 lb weight class. Both are counted on highly by
Coach Fisher to continue their winning streak, and to place
high in the regional tournament. Also, Doug Charles, Bill
Lavers, Joe Stolfi, and Steve Ricker are expected to do well
both in dual and regional competition.

The function of the cheerleading squad is to encourage the team
on to victory and to actively involve the fans in this
encouragement. Whatever the outcome of previous encounters, the
everfaithful cheerleaders seek to rally both the team and the
spectators. Besides attending all the home and away games, the
cheerleaders are responsible for many of the posters and banners
that are seen on campus throughout the year. This year's squad
consisted of: Maureen Mahon, Lynn Oliver, Angela Pennino,
Kathy VanSant, Sally Saunders, and Co-Captains Vicki Jones and
Beverly M atthews. Mrs.
S. Hill is the sponser and advisor.
The POMPON GIRLS present musical entertainment during half-time at the
football and basketball games. All of their routines are original and are
performed under the guidance of Miss Weimer, the squad's advisor.
Another very important function of the Pompon Girls is to help
cheer the team on to victory. The squad attends all of the home
games and mostof the away games.(jh)

special concerts on its own. Its music is selected from the vast sacred repertoire spanning several centuries.
Chorus -The Chorus is the largest vocal organization on the campus. It perfo rms for Parent's Day, Relevance programs, churches, and high schools. During the spring semester the
Cho rus takes an extended tour through New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvaniafor the purpose of exposing the College to pro spective students .

The Stage Band is a popular organization with the students
who participate in it and with it's audiences. The sound is
contemporary and appealing. The Stage Band holds concerts
on the campus, including a performance for Parent's Day. It
also takes an extended tour to play in high schools in
Delaware and neighboring states.
All students at W esley who play band instruments are
welcomed into the Concert Band, the largest instrumental
organization on the campus. The Band plays for concerts at
the College and provides music for convocations. Selected
students from the Band create ensambles for music at
football and basketball games . (rwb)
The Wesley Student Christian Association is inclusive of all
Wesley students, regardless of denominational background or
affiliation. The W.5.c.A. sponsors different opportunities for
discussion, fellowship, and entertainment in an effort to help students
deal with the issues of life. This association organizes the Freshmen
Picnic and A-Kin Partner programs during Freshman Orientation. The
W.5.c.A. also sponsors a Time-Out each semester which provides an
excellent opportunity for students to participate in some wholesome
fun and good conversation. Faith and Life Dialogues, in which a guest
chapel speaker remains on campus a few days to provide stimulating
conversation with the students, are also held each
semester. Fireside Discussions and Forum Debates are
frequently held throughout the year. (ws)
The Social Committee was responsible for the majority of the social events that were scheduled throughout the year. The list of groups presented
included "McKendree Spring",;'Dennis Stoner", and "Redbone". At Christmas time they sponsored a Christmas formal which was such a huge
success than another formal was held in the spring. Pictured above are : Pete Wormser, Barbara Gibbs, Guy Halliday, Penn Graham, Leigh Pierson,
Lane Raab, Jan Taylor, Gail Huff, and Craig Stephenson.

Following ratification of the first Student Government
constitution written by the students the 1971-72 version of
W.5.G.A. offered the kind of powerful potential needed to
responsibly cope with the needs and desires of the st udents
at Wesley Co llege.
Heavily burdened at th e outset with the necessary but
tedious task of setting a foundation for action and with
elections of the necessary representatives of each
residential society, the government wasted little time in
getting down to concrete action concerning those issues
which seemed most pressing to the st udent body.
Immediately followingtheelectionofthe Student
Congressmen, projects were begun. With the concerned and
patient guidance of a few select faculty and administration
members, the Congressmen were able throu ghout the year,
to secure some of those changes that the st udents desired
most .

series of lectures over a wide range of subjects. T hese presentations of the committee serve three major purposes: they provide a broadening of
aesthetic appreciation, increase and vary opportunities for intellectual stimulation, and provideentertainment.
Programs presented in the 1971-72 school year include the rock opera Superstar in concert; Frank Growling Bear, a Penobscot Indian presenting
Indian folk and contemporary protest music; John Chappel in Mark Twain Tonight!; Katherine Bryan, soprano, singing populararias;Jack

scene; Wyn Calvin, Welsh comedian and television star, on lau ghter; Karen Pryor of Sea Life Park and Oceanic Insti tute in Hawaii on ecology of the
sea; Lisa Hobbs, journalist and writer, on China; Tom Evans, co-chairman of the Republican National Committee, on the presidential campaign;
Michael Yeats, president of the Irish Senate and son of poet William Butler Yeats, on his father and Ireland; and Senator Yeats Wife, Crainne, harpist
and singer.
THE WESLEY PLAYERS
Take a bit of fantasy from " Fly on Bufana," a taste of desperate
loneliness from "To Hell with Aunt Agatha," and a line or two from
the stark realism of "The Man Nobody Saw," and you have the
Wesley Players. Cut across the lines of various group types on
Wesley Campus: the subtle aesthete, the rugged athlete, the shy
singer, the leaping dancer, and you have the Wesley Players. Give a
Clancy a piece of canvas, some boards and a hammer; give a Parson
a paintbrush or a piece of cloth; give a Bishop a leko and a gel, and
you have the Wesley Players, the most creative group on campus.
The group lives by the stimulus of "Where is the theater, and what is
the play?" To the genuine Wesley Player, "The Play is the Thing."

The 1972 Eukairia has been an honest attempt by this year's staff to portray the
campus life at Wesley as it really exists.
We perceived events, and our actions as events; things that consist of quality,
happenings of our moments; things that entered the graph of our place, events of our
own time, which we compared and appreciated independently. Eventually, our
ultimate step was towards the creation of an ordered and detached world ...
Be a person Look upon yourself, your heritage, your creativity, your genious ...
"Then,be a"TRUE lNDW1DUAL.
W . Craig Ramsdell
Editor-in-Chief
1972 Eukaira
....
Especially do not feign affection. Neither be
cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity
and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the council of years, gracefully
surrendering the things of youth. Nurture
strength of spirit to shield you in sudden
misfortune. But do not distress yourself. You are
a child of the universe, no less than the trees and
the stars; you have a right to be here. And
whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt
: the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefor be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham,
drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to
be happy.
