Analysing some core characteristics of the information and knowledge content and flows
“Europe’s Environment - Assessment of Assessments” - Draft Outline
•Chapter 1: Setting the scene (~5-10pp)
•Chapter 2: AoA on sustainable management of water and water-related ecosystems (~15 pp)
•Chapter 3: AoA on resource efficiency / green economy (~15 pp)
•Chapter 4: Europe’s Environment: Towards a green(er) economy (~10-15pp)
Chapter 1: Setting the scene
•Focus on water and related ecosystems and the green economy, and in particular on the related persistent and emerging challenges in these areas.
•Contribution to international environmental governance by improving the availability of information on the environment and networks in the development of a shared environment information system.
Chapter 2: AoA on sustainable management of water and water-related ecosystems
• An overview of national and regional organisations involved in producing water assessments.
• An overview of national water assessments will be provided under the following headings.
• An overview of issues covered in water assessments.
• Reflections and recommendations concerning shared water assessment information system & towards shared water assessments.
Chapter 3: AoA on resource efficiency / green economy
• An overview of national and regional organisations involved in producing resource efficiency/green economy assessments.
• An overview of the content, types, frequency and gaps in resource efficiency/green economy assessments in the different groups below.
• An overview of issues covered in resource efficiency /green economy assessments.
• Reflections and recommendations concerning shared resource efficiency / green economy assessments.
Chapter 4: Europe’s Environment: Towards a green(er) economy
• Ensuring ecosystem resilience: Towards sustainable management of water and water-related ecosystems
• Increasing resource efficiency: Towards mainstreaming the environment into economic development
• Transforming to a green(er) economy: Some reflections on future environmental priorities
A basis for discussion about future needs for information and knowledge management to support regular environmental assessment and transforming to a green(er) economy across the region.
Timetable
• 15 February – First draft inputs on sub-regional reports from the RECs • 1 March – Country Fiches available on portal for country consultation• 15 March - NFPs improve country fiches and identify 6 priority “reports”• 15 April – Draft report to the CEP in English (with Russian translation to be
prepared before the CEP meeting)• 5 May – EEA Bureau meeting – comments and inputs to EE-AoA draft
report• 17-18 May - NFP/Eionet meeting • 23 May – EE-AoA Steering Group Meeting • 24-27 May – UNECE CEP meeting – discussing and commenting on the
EE-AoA draft
• 15 June – Report production commences (including final Russian translation)• 23 June – EEA Management Board meeting framing messages for the Astana
conference and agreeing EEA’s substantive contributions to the conference
• 15 August – Printed reports available in English & Russian• 21-23 Sep – Astana Ministerial• October - NFP/Eionet meeting (with NRCs SOER?)
