INTRODUCTION
With the support of the EuroSpine Foundation, EuroSpine, the Spine Society of Europe positions itself as
a major driving force in Spine Education within Europe, acting as a reference point and resource for all
Spine Societies struggling with similar issues at local level, including Surgical Societies such as
Neurosurgery, Scoliosis, Cervical but also non surgical European Societies involved in the care of spinal
disorders.
Two main objectives are defined:
- Deliver consistent educational program to future spine specialists resulting in an European
Diploma
- Deliver continuing education to spine specialists with consistent Accreditation delivered by the
EACCME (European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education)
MODULE 1 BASIC COMPREHENSIVE COURSE – DIPLOMA COURSE
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Understand the challenge
Perform a thorough clinical evaluation in a spinal patient
Recognize and describe the acute management of emergency situations
TARGET PARTICIPANTS
Physicians intending to acquire fundamental knowledge on the evaluation of spinal disorders – disease
processes, clinical skills, and the emergency approach to disorders of the spine, including the last year
residents of the relevant medical specialties.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course the participant should be able to:
Diagnose complications;
Identify the causes of complications;
Describe the management modalities;
Describe revision alternatives and strategies;
Discuss the expected outcomes of management of complications and revision surgery utilizing
the best available evidence in decision making.
Participant will:
Review the spectrum of complications in spinal surgery
Discuss the possible causes of complications and ways to avoid them
Discuss the management modalities of complications
Discuss possible causes of revision surgery
Describe basic revision strategies

TARGET PARTICIPANTS
Physicians intending to acquire basic knowledge on the causes and management of the complications of
treatment and basic principles of revision surgery; including the last year residents of the relevant
medical specialties.
The Diploma Course is also addressed to future spine specialist willing to participate to the 5-Modules
structure of the European Education Program
