the most beautiful waterways in Europe.

Our cruises gently introduce you to some of Europe’s finest scenery, fascinating history and local culture – from the picturesque vineyards of Burgundy to the spectacular Scottish Highlands; from the sun-drenched waterways of the South of France to the beautiful Moselle in Germany; from the storybook Alsace region to the serenity of the Loire Valley.

Some vessels in our fleet are owned by us, others by experienced hotel barge operators who maintain similar standards and have been vetted by us. On board all of them you will glide serenely along waterways that pass through magnificent countryside; be taken on fascinating local

excursions; indulge in delicious meals, fine wines and comfortable accommodation – whilst all the time being pampered by your attentive crew.

The Hotel Barging Experience

A gentle cruise on a hotel barge is the perfect way to discover the very soul of Europe, exploring its wonderful countryside and historical treasures and meeting its many friendly, diverse people.

Far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, hotel barge voyages allow you to travel in luxury without the strains of packing and unpacking, whilst enjoying a balanced blend of daily excursions and fascinating cruising.

THE JOURNEY HAS BEGUNYou are collected at the designated meeting point by the Captain or another crew member and escorted by air-conditioned minibus to your hotel barge. After a champagne welcome and the opportunity to meet the English-speaking crew and your fellow passengers, we will show you to your comfortable stateroom or suite, with its full en suite facilities.

We sometimes embark on a short cruise on the first evening and immediately the fascinating world of barge cruising begins to unfold before you. Then, perhaps after an aperitif, it’s time to indulge in your first gourmet dining experience aboard, complemented, of course, by fine wines.

RELAX AND UNWIND Each day, once under way, your hotel barge moves so sedately from one peaceful mooring to the next, you can just wander along the towpath, or get on or off at one of the pretty locks. You may stumble across some local villagers playing a game of boules, or discover a vineyard, its vines laden with grapes.

The hotel barges all carry bicycles for towpath riding and other excursions ashore, and the little villages and farms we discover as we cruise by become part of the adventure. Alternatively, just absorb the ever-changing scenery from a comfortable lounger or deck-chair on the sun deck.

Then, after a day of cruising and sightseeing, your hotel barge moors up for the night and there is plenty of time for a cocktail before dinner, or perhaps to enjoy a relaxing soak in the spa pool that is on most of our vessels.

In Burgundy, the Loire Valley and England, hot-air ballooning is an exciting option. Ballooning generally takes place in the early hours just after dawn or before sunset, when the air is still and the light is perfect for drifting gently along and gazing down at the beautiful countryside below.

WHAT IS INCLUDEDA European Waterways hotel barge cruise includes accommodation in air-conditioned, en suite cabins, all gourmet meals aboard and ashore, selected regional wines, a champagne welcome, an open bar, all excursions and admittance fees, use of bicycles and other hotel barge facilities such as a spa pool and local transfers to and from the designated meeting point.

Crews are mainly British or French and they all speak English, so there is no need to worry about a language barrier when they are telling you about the local culture, history, wines or gastronomy.

The various roles undertaken by your crew will soon become clear. Your Captain, an experienced barge master, will impress you with his ability to guide the impossibly large vessel into the smallest lock and through the lowest of bridges with inches to spare. He may also double as your guide, taking your party around family-owned vineyards, fine castles or perhaps a small crystal works, but always returning you to your hotel barge in time for the next culinary event or stage in your cruising journey.

Your Master Chef, as well as creating the finest of dishes, is invariably something of a culinary historian and a mine of information when it comes to regional recipes, cheeses and, of course, wine.

Outstanding Service

The attentive hosts and hostesses, who are also the housekeepers, will serve the meals and wines, and are there to cater to your every need allowing you to sit back and relax. The deck-hand meanwhile works away behind the scenes, keeping the ship clean and tidy, repositioning the hotel barge vehicle and preparing the bicycles. One of the crew will always escort you on excursions and act as a guide. Although not officially accredited or always with an in depth knowledge of every site visited, they do have a real interest in the local region, which they can share with you.

Your highly professional crews take their roles very seriously, keeping in the background, but always finding time to share with you some aspect of local knowledge which just adds to the intrigue and fascination during your gentle cruise along one of Europe’s delightful waterways.

All hotel barges in the fleet benefit from an annual refurbishment and this may vary from redecoration and refurnishing of the accommodation or public areas of a vessel, to a complete refit of bedroom suites and their en suite facilities.

Whichever hotel barge you choose to cruise on, you can be assured that a lot of thought and care has gone into combining traditional features like hardwood panelling, antique furniture and décor, with expected creature comforts such as air-conditioning and central heating.

Each hotel barge has a library, games and a CD player/iPod dock and some of them a spa pool on the sun deck, TV/DVD, or computer with internet access, often WiFi. Some even have a telescope for an after-dinner gaze into the night sky.

There is also, of course, an open bar stocked with a wide range of alcoholic and soft drinks.

The accommodation on each hotel barge ranges from charming twin and double-bedded staterooms to suites with sitting areas – but all with closet and drawer storage and private en suite shower rooms.

For any cruise, you can select a specific cabin, particularly if you book early.

Because every vessel is designed individually, some offer additional facilities such as a rooftop sun deck, passenger-friendly wheelhouse, demonstration galley and exercise equipment.

Cuisine & Dining Aboard

The classic traditions of French and International cuisine are an unforgettable highlight of your cruise. The onboard chefs are experienced, highly-trained culinary artists, whose gastronomic creations are often rated higher by our discerning clients than those they have sampled in top restaurants.

Before you wake each morning, a crew member has visited the local patisserie to collect newly baked breads, buttery croissants and a variety of fresh pastries, which will be laid out in the saloon with an array of fresh fruit and other accompaniments. Together with the aroma of fresh coffee brewing, the day has just begun and you may want to enjoy your breakfast on deck.

Luncheon may be a colourful arrangement of salads, pâtes, savoury quiches and of course, a selection of cheeses, all accompanied by an excellent choice of wines from the barge cellar. This daytime feast is often enjoyed on the sun deck, perhaps while cruising.

Dinner is the culinary highlight of each day. Served by candlelight, each course is a delicious creation, complemented by fine wines. Your chef will use the best fresh ingredients, bought from the wonderful local markets and pick fresh herbs from the small onboard herb garden to skilfully produce mouthwatering regional and national dishes that are full of flavour.

The chefs will be very happy to accommodate requests for vegetarian and special diets and these should be made at the time of reservation.

MenuBreakfast

Awake each morning to the aroma of fresh coffee. Then enjoy

a continental breakfast of freshly squeezed juices, crusty fresh

bread with delicious conserves and hot croissants and pastries,

or a cooked breakfast.

Luncheon

Luncheon may be a buffet, with imaginative salads, pâtes,

quiches, meat or fish platters, or perhaps a delicious homemade

soup and entrée, accompanied by a choice of local cheeses and

wines – all served al fresco on the sunlit deck overlooking

the countryside.

Dinner by Candlelight

On your hotel barge moored beneath the stars, dinner is a

gastronomic adventure and the finale to your day’s journey

of discovery and intrigue. You may be served Chèvre Chaud

en Portefeuille or Marinated Langoustines, followed by Filet

d’Agneau au Basilic, Truite à la Chablisienne, or Magret de

Canard au Vinaigre de Framboise.

Then a selection of creamy and firm cheeses such as Chaource,

Époisses or Morbier, before a delicious dessert, perhaps Ile

Flottante, Crème Brulée à la Vanille avec Tuiles aux Amandes,

Tarte Tatin avec Caramel au Beurre Salé, Fondant au Chocolat.

And afterwards, of course, relax with coffee and liqueurs in the

company of your fellow passengers.

Whichever region in Europe you choose to cruise, but particularly in France, you can be sure there is a truly wonderful choice of wines and cheeses to enjoy, and the barges' chefs and wine experts know exactly how to marry one with the other to make every meal on board a memorable one.

Many of the great wine-growing regions sprang up in the wake of Roman invasion and the influence of these master viticulturers has continued through the centuries.

From the Minervois, Corbieres and Côtes de Roussillon wines of Southern France to the full-bodied Côte de Nuits and Vosne Romanée vintages of Burgundy; from the renowned dry white wines of Sancerre and Chablis to the distinctive products of the Alsace and Moselle regions, and of course, Champagne, there is something to please every palate. During your hotel barge cruise you will enjoy a wide selection served with great care.

We also understand the history and making of every cheese on the menu and each cheese course is a delightful journey into the local region’s rich heritage and traditions. The cheeses all have a story to tell, from the creamy products of France such as Époisses and Chèvre au Poivre, to the memorably named delights of Scotland and Ireland such as Whiskey Chase and Cashel Blue. And let’s not forget the flavoursome varieties of cheeses that Holland and Italy have to offer.

After one thousand years of wine production and the creation of many hundreds of cheeses, the locals are convinced that quality and choice are fundamental to everyday life, and we think you will be too.

Wines & Cheeses

Every hotel barge cruise includes daily excursions to some fascinating local places of interest - imposing citadels or elegant châteaux, colourful markets or renowned wine cellars, medieval hilltop villages or magnificent palaces and cathedrals.

Many of the excursions are a brief walk away from the hotel barge or, if further, the ever present air-conditioned minibus will carry you there in comfort. Each excursion is led by a crew member as guide, who usually has some amusing stories to tell about the places you visit and is adept at finding those lesser known, hidden away gems.

For the history lovers amongst you, there will be visits to famous royal palaces and castles such as Hampton Court and Windsor beside the River Thames; spectacular medieval fortified cities such as Carcassonne in the Midi; battlefields in Scotland – even Troglodyte cave dwellings in the Loire Valley!

The variety of cultural experiences on offer is vast. You can browse the tiny shops of skilled craftsmen in the villages of Burgundy or admire the stunning Renaissance architecture and art of Venice, Ferrara, Mantua and Chioggia. In Holland, see the delicate Delft porcelain being hand-painted, while in England you can tour riverside art galleries and boatyards where classic wooden riverboats have been built for generations.

And if you want to indulge fully in the local gastronomic delights, there are visits to local producers of regional specialities such as olives, truffles, foie gras, scotch whisky and Armagnac. Finally, no cruise would be complete without sampling some fine wines at a respected domaine nearby, maybe in Chablis, Beaune, Sancerre or St-Émilion.

Above all, the excursions are designed for you to experience the richest treasures in the area surrounding your cruise route so that you can really gain an appreciation of the local culture and way of life.

TANDEM BIKINGHave you ever ridden a tandem bicycle? Most people haven’t but on some of our hotel barges with tandems on board, you can get the chance. As romantic a way to travel as you could imagine on a bicycle made for two and not as hard as you might think. As you both cycle together along the towpaths of Burgundy or perhaps the Canal du Midi, you just need to decide who is going to steer!

BIKING CHARTERSLastly, for more committed cyclists, there are biking charters with half-day guided itineraries, upgraded bikes and picnic lunches – but still with the usual high quality service.

Barging and Biking the European Waterways Way

We know that many of our passengers enjoy taking some exercise during their hotel barge cruise, so each vessel carries bicycles for everyone on board to use. On most cruises the crew can offload the bikes almost anytime for you to take a gentle pedal along the canal towpath, perhaps to the next pretty village or lock.

"BIKING PLUS"For those passengers who would like to be a little more adventurous, a number of our hotel barges now offer a “Biking Plus” option, as follows:

• Whilst others are relaxing on deck, or maybe enjoying a stroll, you can take a bike on most days and follow an interesting, but not too challenging route which we will have already carefully researched.

• You will be given clearly marked maps for each round trip route and a backpack with everything you might need so that, for an hour or two, you can explore the surrounding countryside and villages along the lanes, towpaths and byways.

• If you get stuck or lost, a crew member will come to fetch you. Otherwise, you can just rejoin the hotel barge where you left her – or maybe a little further along the canal.

• The hotel barge itinerary is arranged so that you won’t miss any of the organised excursions or much of the cruising, but you will have seen a little more of the people & places around you – and done yourself some good at the same time!

Burgundy Heart of Rural France – Vineyards & Châteaux

BURGUNDY……boasts some of the world’s finest wines with around 60,000 acres of sunlit vines and arguably the prettiest canals in France. The Burgundy Canal winds its way in smooth curves through the heart of renowned wine growing areas such as Chablis, Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, or rises steeply through a flight of locks that appear like staircases.

The Nivernais Canal meanders alongside the picturesque River Yonne, through a largely undiscovered region near the Morvan Hills, passing sleepy villages and Charolais cattle grazing in the lush pastures. This is the original home of hotel barging with its hand-swung bridges and old logging sites, and where time seems to have stood still for centuries.

The landscape around the Burgundy Canal is one of rolling hills eroded over the centuries and covered in forests of oak, maple and pine and where spring, summer and autumn each leave a unique signature. Medieval towns are surrounded by unspoilt countryside and the wonderful markets have stalls brimming with fresh local products cultivated on the fertile plains.

This is a region with a vast variety of cheeses, in all shapes, sizes and colours, strong in character or mild and fresh and all can be enjoyed with full-bodied red Burgundies, or perhaps with lighter white Chablis wines. Burgundy’s gastronomic tradition is certainly rich and diverse and a sedate cruise on a hotel barge along one of its delightful waterways will allow you to indulge in good food and wine, two of the real pleasures in life.

La Belle Epoque is a spacious, luxurious hotel barge and sister ship to L’Impressionniste. Although she originally carried logs from Burgundy to Paris, she was skilfully converted into a delightful hotel barge. She is now the perfect vessel for cruising the Upper Burgundy Canal with its towpaths that are ideal for walking and cycling.

She has been designed with both elegance and passenger comfort in mind and offers a sun deck with spa pool, wood-panelled saloon/dining room and other luxury amenities.

She is also fully air-conditioned. The spacious cabins offer a choice of twin or double beds with marble en suite facilities. The Captain leads a crew of six comprising Master Chef, Deck-Hand, Tour Guide and two Housekeepers.

Sunday, Day 1VENAREY-LES-LAUMESGuests are met at the designated meeting point in Paris and transferred to La Belle Epoque. A full crew Welcome Aboard with champagne and canapés. After time to settle into your cabin you will enjoy your first dinner on board and an introduction to Burgundy’s excellent cuisine.

Monday, Day 2VENAREY-LES-LAUMES TO MONTBARDEnjoy a leisurely breakfast followed by a visit to the hilltop village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, where the film ‘Chocolat’ was set. On the way from the summit of Mount Auxois, we look at Alesia, the last battle site between the Gauls and Romans that took place in 52 B.C. There is also time to explore the medieval town of Semur-en-Auxois. After lunch we cruise through woodlands and rolling fields with great towpath biking and walking opportunities past the tiny canalside villages of Nogent, Courcelles and Les Granges. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3MONTBARD TO RAVIÈRESMorning cruise to the Forges de Buffon and then after lunch we escort you to the exquisite World Heritage UNESCO site of Abbaye de Fontenay founded by St Bernard in 1118. Representing a distinctive example of early Cistercian architecture and virtually intact, Fontenay allows an exceptional glimpse of Cistercian life and industry with its peaceful gardens and ponds and fascinating cloisters, dormitories and scriptorium. Return to the hotel barge and cruise to Ravières. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4RAVIÈRES TO ANCY-LE-FRANCMorning visit to medieval Noyers-sur-Serein to admire the local produce, colours and delights of the wonderful market, or to wander the town ramparts in this, one of the most beautiful villages in France. After lunch enjoy a lazy afternoon cruise past grazing Charolais cattle, with plenty of opportunity to walk or cycle along the towpath, to Ancy-le-Franc. Dinner ashore at a local restaurant.

Thursday, Day 5ANCY-LE-FRANC TO LEZINNESGentle morning cruise as your hotel barge descends through the picturesque locks and past the beautiful 16th century Renaissance palace and gardens of Château d’Ancy-le-Franc. After lunch, we tour the vineyards and town of Chablis, dating back to Roman times, then enjoy a private wine tasting at the family-run Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard, a renowned winemaker that makes the most of the region’s wonderful local terroir to produce high quality wines. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6LEZINNES TO TANLAYAfter breakfast we enjoy a leisurely cruise to our final mooring at Tanlay. Following lunch we visit the 16th century Renaissance-style Château de Tanlay, nestling serenely within this picturesque village. Also time to wander around Tanlay before returning to the hotel barge for Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

Saturday, Day 7TANLAYAfter breakfast, disembark La Belle Epoque and transfer to the designated drop-off point in Paris.

L’Art de Vivre started life as a Scottish lumber carrier and has been carefully transformed by skilled craftsmen into a floating celebration of the Burgundian “good life”. The recently refitted cabins have modern en suite bathrooms and the delightful saloon combines contemporary leather with more traditional furnishings.

There is a sun deck to relax on with a glass of wine as you glide through the pretty Burgundy countryside, a relaxing spa pool and, of course, bicycles for exploring along the towpath before rejoining the hotel barge at one of the locks up ahead.

Sunday, Day 1AUXERREGuests are met at the designated meeting point in Paris and transferred to the pretty L’Art de Vivre. Following a Champagne Welcome, you are free to explore the medieval town of Auxerre or take a stroll along the banks of the River Yonne before returning for dinner on board.

Monday, Day 2AUXERRE TO VINCELLESOur morning cruise takes us through some delightful locks and past vineyard-clad hillsides to our rural mooring at Vincelles. The afternoon excursion is to Chablis, home of one of the most famous white wines in the world. A tasting in one of the town’s aged cellars will introduce you to some of the local Petit Chablis and Chablis wines. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3VINCELLES TO MAILLY-LA-VILLEAfter breakfast, our excursion is to the medieval town of Auxerre. Originally the capital of Lower Burgundy, the town prides itself on its lavish Renaissance houses, fine churches and particularly its magnificent cathedral situated close to the river. We then return to the hotel barge for a cruise southwards through rich pasturelands and past grazing Charolais cattle to the town of Mailly-la-Ville. After your relaxed lunch on board, perhaps this is a good time to enjoy a walk or bicycle ride along the towpath. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4MAILLY-LA-VILLE TO LE SAUSSOISThis morning, we visit the charming 14th century medieval market village of Noyers-sur-Surein, one of the most beautiful villages in France, on an excursion through delightful countryside. In the afternoon we cruise past the cliffs at Le Saussois, a stunning natural setting, with an international climbing centre. There will also be the opportunity to enjoy delightful walks or bicycle rides along the towpath, before dinner ashore at a local restaurant.

Thursday, Day 5LE SAUSSOIS TO LUCY-SUR-YONNEIn the morning we enjoy an excursion to the pilgrimage town of Vézelay, one of Burgundy’s most famous treasures with the Romanesque Basilica of St Mary Magdalene, craft shops and fine views of the surrounding countryside. After lunch on board L’Art de Vivre, an afternoon cruise through the picturesque Yonne Valley to arrive at Lucy-sur-Yonne. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6LUCY-SUR-YONNE TO CHEVROCHESA morning cruise through beautiful countryside takes us to the pretty canalside village of Chevroches and again this is a perfect time for a walk or a bicycle ride. In the afternoon, we visit the Château de Bazoches, whose illustrious visitors included Richard the Lionheart. The château was later remodelled by Maréchal Vauban. Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

Saturday, Day 7CHEVROCHESAfter breakfast, disembark L'Art de Vivre and transfer to the designated drop off point in Paris.

Wednesday, Day 4LA BUSSIÈRE TO PONT D’OUCHEAfter a morning cruise to Pont D’Ouche, we are given an exclusive tour of the magnificent 12th century Abbaye de la Bussière. The ornamental gardens and lake, wine press, crypt and cellars are interwoven with ancient colonnades, stone staircases and huge stained glass windows. After a Kir Royale aperitif, we savour the gastronomic delights of Master Chef Emmanuel Hébrard in the Bistro or Garden Restaurant, whilst enjoying a selection of local burgundies. Mid-afternoon, we visit the medieval village, craft shops and castle of Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, once an outpost of the Dukes of Burgundy and offering a fine overview of the feeder lakes, canal and surrounding countryside. Thursday, Day 5PONT D’OUCHE TO VANDENESSEAfter breakfast we cruise to Vandenesse-en-Auxois, passing grazing white Charolais cattle, rolling hills and picturesque villages crossing the only canal bridge on the Burgundy Canal. We then drive through the premier cru vineyards into Beaune, capital of Burgundy wine country. We absorb the fascinating 15th century Hotel Dieu Hospice, before visiting another of Burgundy’s oldest winemakers, Bouchard Pere et Fils, renowned for its Grand Cru and Premier Cru wines and of course, enjoy a tasting. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6VANDENESSE TO ESCOMMESOur last day’s leisurely cruise takes us to the canal summit, 1,250 feet above sea level, just before the Pouilly tunnel. This afternoon we visit Château de Bussy-Rabutin and see the portrait gallery created by the disgraced courtier of Louis XIV, before strolling through the gardens and enjoying views of the château surrounded by its moat. Tuesday, Day 3VELARS TO STE-MARIE-SUR-OUCHEThis morning we cruise to Ste-Marie-sur-Ouche, with plenty of opportunity to walk or bicycle along the ever-present towpath. After lunch onboard, we visit Château Savigny-les-Beaune, a magnificent property nestled between the hillsides in the Côte de Beaune. Originally built in 1340, it has now been expanded by the present owner Michel Pont, as a museum for classic Abarth cars, aeroplanes, motorcycles and historic wine producing equipment. The garden holds a surprise - around 80 fighter aircraft! Return to the hotel barge for dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4STE-MARIE-SUR-OUCHE TO ST-VICTOR-SUR-OUCHEMorning cruise to St-Victor-sur-Ouche through some very pretty locks, past rolling hills and picturesque villages. Again, an ideal time to explore the towpath on foot or bicycle. We enjoy an early lunch on board and then a drive across the premier cru vineyards into Beaune, capital of Burgundy wine country with a history going back over 2,000 years. We absorb the fascinating 15th century Hotel Dieu Hospice and the former Ducal Palace. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5ST-VICTOR-SUR-OUCHE TO PONT D’OUCHEAfter breakfast we cruise along the canal deep into the forest to Pont d’Ouche. In the afternoon we enjoy a very special wine tour and tasting at the renowned Château de Meursault, a must for wine and history lovers. The vines of the Chateau de Meursault are ideally situated and sheltered from the winds by the hills to the west. The soil is rich in calcite and well drained, making it ideal for growing the estate’s highly-regarded vintages. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6PONT D’OUCHE TO VANDENESSEThis morning we enjoy a relaxing cruise past the spectacular Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, offering wonderful photo, walking and biking opportunities. After lunch, we visit this beautiful medieval village, with its castle and stunning views, and then the nearby moat-encircled 13th century Château de Commarin. Going back 26 generations, the de Vogue family ownership portrays an insight into the glamorous lives of the French aristocracy, as well as showing off the château, stables and landscaped gardens. FLORENTIN TO FLOGNY-LA-CHAPELLEAfter a delicious breakfast, we visit Auxerre, the capital of Lower Burgundy situated in the heart of a wine growing region most famous for its Chablis wine. The success of this thriving town is celebrated by architectural jewels such as the ornately painted 15th century Clock Tower, the soaring Gothic cathedrals of Saint Germain and Saint Stephen and an abundance of ornate Renaissance houses bordering tree-lined squares. After lunch back on board, our gentle afternoon cruise past lock houses and sleepy hamlets is to Flogny-la-Chapelle, an ideal time for a stroll or bicycle ride along the towpath.Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3FLOGNY-LA-CHAPELLE TO TONNERREOur cruise this morning, past Charolais cattle grazing at the water’s edge, is to Tonnerre, the centre of a small wine growing area producing excellent reds and rosés under the name “Bourgogne Epineuil”. After lunch your tour guide drives you to the famous town of Chablis where you’ll take a tour of the ancient press and cellars of Domaine Laroche, followed by a wine tasting of their various fine vintages. On the way back to the hotel barge we stop to enjoy panoramic views of the Grand Cru vineyards. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4TONNERRE TO TANLAYOur cruise today is barging at its best and again, is an ideal time to hop off for a bicycle ride or walk along the towpath. After a lazy lunch, your tour guide escorts you into Tanlay by foot to view its beautiful 16th century Renaissance-style château. The interior is luxuriously furnished and decorated with some astonishing frescoes. Soak up some true French village atmosphere by stopping for a drink at the bar situated in front of the main gates. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5TANLAY TO LEZINNESAfter a breakfast of fluffy croissants and pastries from the local patisserie, we continue our cruise to Lezinnes. After lunch we take a short ride to the Château d’Ancy-le-Franc. This Renaissance jewel, set in the centre of a large park on the banks of the canal, houses the biggest collection of Renaissance murals in France. The immense quadrilateral holds a rich decor attributed to some of the most celebrated artists of the 16th and 17th century. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6LEZINNES TO ANCY-LE-FRANCThis morning’s cruise takes us to our final mooring at Ancy-le-Franc and on the way we descend through a series of quaint hand-operated locks. After lunch we visit the exquisite Abbaye de Fontenay, a marvellous medieval community with its cloisters, capitulary hall, dormitories and fish basins full of trout. Enjoy the evening and take in the view with a drink on the panoramic deck of the Savoir Faire, before indulging in the special candlelit Captain’s Farewell Dinner.

Sunday, Day 1MORET-SUR-LOINGGuests are met at the designated meeting point in Paris and transferred to La Nouvelle Etoile moored in the heart of the Fontainebleau forest. After a Champagne Welcome you can take a stroll though the medieval walled town of Moret-sur-Loing, known to many as the home of the famous Impressionist painter, Alfred Sisley. Monday, Day 2MORET-SUR-LOING TO NEMOURSToday, we cruise into the Upper Loire region. Affectionately known as the “Garden of Paris”, this little known region gently reveals its secrets. After lunch, we visit the Château de Fontainebleau. To walk through this palace is to walk through the history of France and every French royal family added its own architectural style and features when in residence. On our drive back to the hotel barge we may visit the artist community of Barbizon. We will moor for the night in Nemours. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3NEMOURS TO MONTARGISToday, we have a full day cruise to Montargis with plenty of opportunity to bicycle or walk along the towpath of the canal. After lunch we visit this charming town, also called “the Little Venice of the Gatinais” because of its numerous canals. Visit one of the many museums, or shop at the famous Mazet Praline shop with its exquisitely packaged delicacies. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4MONTARGIS TO CHÂTILLON COLIGNYAfter breakfast, we set off on a leisurely cruise to the charming village of Châtillon Coligny. This afternoon, we will take a drive out to the splendid 16th century Château de Saint Fargeau which is over 1,000 years old and probably the most important place of historical interest in this unspoilt rural region, the Puisaye. Later, in the evening, there is time to stroll around the ramparts surrounding Châtillon-Coligny. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5CHÂTILLON COLIGNY TO ROGNYToday, continuing our cruise higher up the canal we reach Rogny-les-Sept-Ecluses. This staircase of seven locks was built in 1648 and is an impressive monument to the engineers of the past. After a relaxing lunch we take a short drive to the town of Gien, on the banks of the River Loire, and famous for its faïence earthenware. We also visit the International Hunting Museum at Château de Gien. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6ROGNY TO BRIAREAfter passing through the locks of Rogny, we have reached the highest point of the canal and descend slowly towards the River Loire. At Briare, we cross the river on the Pont Canal de Briare, designed and built by Gustav Eiffel in 1890. Later we drive out to Sancerre to sample some of this delicious wine and perhaps taste some of the local Crottin de Chavignol cheese on our way back to the hotel barge. Saturday, Day 7BRIARE After breakfast disembark La Nouvelle Etoile and transfer to the designated drop off point in Paris.*This is a sample itinerary and is subject to change. On alternate weeks the cruise is in the reverse direction.

Sunday, Day 1MARSEILLANYou will be met at the designated meeting point in Montpellier and escorted by air-conditioned minibus to Anjodi, moored in the lakeside fishing village of Marseillan, enjoying a view over the oyster beds and home of Noilly Pratt Vermouth. Champagne Welcome followed by time for a relaxing stroll around this lovely fishing village before dinner on board.

Monday, Day 2MARSEILLAN TO PORTIRAGNESThis morning we visit Pezenas, a delightful town, mostly known for its associations with the French playwright Molière, who is said to have written many plays while staying there. In the afternoon we cruise from Marseillan to Portiragnes through the nature reserve of Bagnas with potential sightings of flamingoes and other wildfowl. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3PORTIRAGNES TO BEZIERSToday we continue our cruise along the 330-year-old Canal du Midi, with plenty of opportunity to walk or cycle along the towpath, before mooring at Beziers. After lunch we enjoy an informative winery tour and tasting at the 14th century Chateau de Perdiguier, famed for its 15th century frescoes and Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4BEZIERS TO POILHESA morning visit to Narbonne, a Roman Mediterranean capital where the Visigoth monarchs once lived. We tour the Archbishop’s Palace and Horreum and explore the indoor market at the hub of this bustling town, where you will have time to shop or simply absorb the vibrant atmosphere. After lunch at a local auberge in Narbonne, we return to the hotel barge and cross the aqueduct over the River Orb, then ascend the 7-lock flight of Fonserannes before reaching the world’s oldest canal tunnel at Malpas. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5POILHES TO PIGASSEAfter breakfast, we cruise along the shaded canal to Capestang, again with perfect cycling and walking opportunities. Following lunch we take an excursion to Minerve, the ancient capital of Minervois, which boasts a 12th century Cathar fort surrounded by deep limestone gorges. Besieged by Simon de Montfort in 1210, its hill-top location affords spectacular views. A fascinating recreation in miniature of the bloodthirsty Cathar rebellion and small museum complete the intriguing picture. We then return to Anjodi for an evening cruise to Pigasse. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6PIGASSE TO LE SOMAILIn the morning we embark on our final cruise along the historic Canal du Midi to the delightful village of Le Somail. After lunch we visit Carcassonne. Dating back to the Gallo Roman era, this is the most complete medieval fortified city in existence today. With its 52 watchtowers, portcullis and extraordinary repertoire of defenses, it resisted the many armies that tried to storm this Camelot setting. Captain's Farewell Dinner on board.

Saturday, Day 7LE SOMAILAfter breakfast, disembark Anjodi and transfer to the designated drop off point in Montpellier.

Enchanté is a state of the art, double-decker hotel barge that has been built to the highest standard. She provides luxurious accommodation for up to 8 guests in four equally spacious twin or double-bedded suites, the largest of any hotel barge on the Canal du Midi (approx. 165sq ft each including en suite) and with superbly appointed bathrooms.

Wednesday, Day 4BASSANEL TO PUICHÉRICThis morning we visit a Benedictine Abbey founded in the 8th century. Nestled in Lagrasse, a village awarded the title of “Plus beaux villages de France” and home to many artisans who have set up workshops in the medieval centre, the restored Abbey was once one of the most prosperous thanks to Charlemagne’s charter. Then we sample some local cuisine with lunch ashore in a spectacular setting overlooking the Corbières vineyards, before returning to the barge to cruise to Puichéric, past “l’Epanchoir”, one of the bridges invented by Pierre Riquet for the Canal du Midi. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5PUICHÉRIC TO MARSEILLETTEToday we cruise along the 330-year-old canal ascending its trademark locks as the relief becomes steeper. This is a great opportunity to walk from one lock to the next as Enchanté navigates the triple locking system. The afternoon excursion is a wine tour and a tasting at Château Ollieux Romanis in the Corbières, one of the few regions to receive the much envied French mark of approval for wines known as A.O.C. (Appellation d’Origine Controlée).This informative tour offers an opportunity to sample wine in situ and find out more about the Languedoc’s long-standing and continuing wine trade. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6MARSEILLETTE TO TRÈBESFascinating morning tour of Carcassonne. Enjoy the Archbishop’s Palace and Roman Horreum. Explore the indoor market at the hub of this bustling town, where you will have time to shop or simply absorb the vibrant atmosphere. On your return to the hotel barge, we serve an aperitif and al fresco lunch under the trees, before a relaxing afternoon cruise through five locks to Puichéric. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4PUICHÉRIC TO MILLEGRANDMorning cruise to Millegrand, a perfect opportunity for walking or cycling, or just lying back in the spa pool and enjoying the day. Lunch is prepared by your chef, before you leave with your guide to visit the medieval village of Lagrasse. It is one of the most beautiful villages in France, with an 8th century Benedictine abbey and many skilled artisans’ workshops located amongst the narrow, winding streets. Then enjoy a wine tasting at Château Villemagne, an established family-run domaine producing distinctive Corbières wines. Dinner ashore at an excellent local auberge.

Thursday, Day 5MILLEGRAND TO VILLEDUBERTMorning cruise to our mooring at the lock near the village of Villedubert. After lunch, we leave the hotel barge and drive to the picturesque hilltop village of Montolieu, known as the ‘Village of Books’, with its many antiquarian bookshops and art exhibitions. You can visit the museum and be charmed by this medieval town, then return to the hotel barge, visiting the 12th century Cistercian Abbaye de Villelongue on the way. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6VILLEDUBERT TO CARCASSONNEThis morning we cruise to our final destination and one of the highlights of the week, Carcassonne. Monday, Day 2ARGELIERS TO CAPESTANGEnjoy breakfast in a comfortable chair on the upper deck of the hotel barge. After breakfast we drive to the famous medieval double-walled city of Carcassonne. Your knowledgeable guide will provide a full tour of this historical place and ensure that you also have time to browse the shops! Return to the hotel barge for an afternoon's cruise to Capestang, whilst your chef will serve up a gourmet lunch (perhaps including the famous duck confit stew, cassoulet). By early evening we have arrived in Capestang, where we moor with a view of the flood-lit and picturesque Collegiale St. Etienne. Time for a brisk stroll into the village before dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3CAPESTANG TO RÉGIMONT LE HAUTAfter breakfast we enjoy a tasting at “L’Oulibo”, the local olive oil press. After tasting those organic and wholesome olives accompanied by a glass of rosé, we take a short drive up the Gorge de la Cesse and into the hilltop village of Minerve. Your guide will regale you with the harrowing tale of the Cathar siege launched at Minerve during the 13th century. Relax after lunch on board, whilst we cruise to Régimont le Haut or you can enjoy a wine tasting at a local château, such as Château Cabezac. Return to the hotel barge for dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4RÉGIMONT LE HAUT TO FONSERANNESAfter breakfast, we take a side-trip to the weekly morning market in Narbonne. Even for non-shoppers, Narbonne offers much entertainment. Explore an excavated portion of the original Roman road, the Via Domitia, visit the Roman Museum, discover the beauty of St. Juste Cathedral or simply relax at one of the many cafés. Return to Athos for lunch on board and then we begin our cruise to Fonserannes. From our mooring tonight you will have a glorious view of the town of Beziers and the Cathedral St. Nazaire. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5FONSERANNES TO PORTIRAGNESThis morning we drive to the old market town of Pezenas, which was the first seat of the Languedoc court. The architecture is particular to the town because of the “Hotels Particuliers” or mansions belonging to the noble families who followed the Court. It is filled with artisans’ shops, including painters, hat makers, and costume designers. Once again, your guide makes sure that there is time to browse, as well as learning about the history. After lunch we begin our negotiation of a 17thC feat of engineering, Fonserranes Lock Staircase. The crew expertly tie her up in each lock, and wait for the gates to close safely behind her before the water levels empty out and allow her to pass from one lock into the next. Then we traverse the 18thC aqueduct over the River Orb. The paved towpath and the many locks leading to our mooring make it an ideal afternoon for walking or cycling alongside the barge. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6PORTIRAGNES TO MARSEILLANThis morning, we get underway earlier than usual, cruising through the area known as the “Petite Camargue”. Bird watchers should look out for the local species such as pink flamingos, African Rollers and Bee Eaters. After passing through the exceptional “round lock” at Agde, a spectacular and appropriate seafood lunch awaits you, as you enter the open-waters of the Etang de Thau. The Etang hosts Europe's largest mussel and oyster beds. As we moor in the port at Marseillan, you will notice the enclosure which makes up the Noilly Prat vermouth distillery. End a perfect day with a fascinating tour of the distillery and, if you choose, a taste of Noilly Prat before the Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

Saturday, Day 7MARSEILLANAfter breakfast disembark Athos and transfer to the designated drop off point in Beziers.*On alternate weeks the cruise will be in the reverse direction. This is a sample itinerary and is subject to change.

Rosa is an old Dutch “Clipper” barge that was completely refitted in 2010 to a high specification. Her saloon is particularly welcoming and features attractive wood panelling, comfortable seating and a cosy bar. There are four air-conditioned staterooms, each with full en suite facilities and offering comfortable accommodation for 8 passengers.

Outside there is a spacious sun deck with comfortable furniture. Along with Anjodi, Rosa featured in the hugely successful television series, Rick Stein’s French Odyssey.

GasconyThe “Canal des Deux Mers”, comprising of the Canal de Garonne and the Canal du Midi, links the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, passing through the region of L’Occitanie – a veritable palette of colours and scents created by orchards and vineyards. On our cruise through Gascony along the Canal de Garonne, we visit medieval fortified ‘bastides’ such as Valence d’Agen, learn about and taste some of the region’s wonderful local products and pass picturesque villages and quaint farms.

BordeauxThe Bordeaux region, with its special ‘terroir’, has been producing wine for around 2,000 years and some of the château estates have gained worldwide recognition for their superb and long-lived vintages. On your cruise aboard Rosa, there will be the opportunity to learn more about the complex science of viticulture on tours to such places as Saint-Emilion, including of course a tasting of some fine wines. We will also explore the countryside surrounding the Val de Garonne and see towns such as historic Nérac and elegant Marmande.

Day 2 MONTAUBAN TO MONTECHThis morning Rosa climbs a ten-lock flight en route to Montech. An afternoon visit to Château Bellevue la Fôret for a tour and tasting of their cuvée ‘Optimum’. Dinner on board.

Day 3 MONTECH TO CASTELSARRASINFirst, a guided tour of the remarkable inclined Water Plane, an amazing feat of engineering, then we cruise to Castelsarrasin. After lunch, a tour of Ferme des Jauberts to taste Eric Couderc’s foie gras, accompanied by some local wine. Dinner on board.

Day 4 CASTELSARRASIN TO MOISSAC We cruise via the 1,000 foot long Aqueduct du Cacor to moor for lunch on the River Tarn by an old watermill. Then we visit Moissac's 7th century Abbaye St-Pierre and explore the many arts and crafts workshops. Dinner ashore at a fine restaurant in front of the abbaye.

Day 5 MOISSAC TO VALENCE D’AGENToday, Rosa rises up from the River Tarn to cruise past the Quercy massif to moor at Pommevic, before a visit to Château de Goudourville and a tour of Auvillar, a beautiful village perched high above the River Garonne. Afternoon cruise to the Bastide town of Valence d'Agen. Dinner on board.

Day 6 VALENCE D’AGEN TO AGENA morning cruise to the historic town of Agen. Then a tour and tasting at Armagnac producer Domaine de Lapeyrade, before seeing the medieval town and castle of Nérac, once home to Henry IV of France. Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

Day 7 AGENAfter breakfast, disembark Rosa and transfer to the designated drop off point in Toulouse.

Day 4 LE MAS D’AGENAIS TO DAMAZAN We enjoy Marmonde's colourful market, before cruising to pretty Damazan. After lunch we visit Le Mas d’Agenais with its ancient church housing an original Rembrandt, then visit a local cheese workshop for a tour and tasting. Dinner on board.

Day 5 DAMAZAN TO SERIGNAC-SUR-GARONNEWe visit the traditional cooperage of St. Martin, before heading to the Bastide village of Vianne and on to ancient Barbaste with its fortified mill and four square towers. Then an afternoon cruise to Serignac-sur-Garonne. Dinner on board.

Day 6 SERIGNAC-SUR-GARONNE TO BOÉWe visit the medieval town and castle of Nerac in the footsteps of King Henry IV, before a tour and tasting at Armagnac producer Domaine de Lapeyrade. Our final cruise towards Boé crosses one of France’s longest aqueducts over the River Garonne. Captain's Farewell Dinner on board.

To walk through this palace is to walk through the history of France. It is the only royal and imperial château to have been continuously inhabited for seven centuries and every French royal family added its own architectural style and features when in residence. Tuesday, Day 3MONTBOUY TO ROGNY LES SEPT ECLUSESThis morning we cruise to historic Rogny and its 350-year-old 7 lock-flight. Today’s excursion is to the Château de Saint Fargeau, a handsome, pentagonal and moated château that is over 1,000 years old. In 980, Héribert, Auxerre's bishop and son of King Hugues Capet built this fortified hunting meeting place which has been wonderfully restored and includes an extensive collection of art, porcelain and antiques. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4ROGNY LES SEPT ECLUSES TO LA GAZONNEAfter a leisurely breakfast of fresh croissants, baguettes and assorted pastries we visit Gien, home of the Faience pottery. After lunch we enjoy an afternoon cruise to La Gazonne, a beautiful mooring surrounded by lakes and ponds that provide water for the workings of the Canal de Briare. A perfect time to explore the towpath on foot or bicycle. Dinner ashore at the Michelin-starred Auberge des Templiers in Les Bezards.

Thursday, Day 5LA GAZONNE TO BRIAREMorning cruise to Briare and Gustave Eiffel’s magical aqueduct across the River Loire with walking and bicycling opportunities. We preview Friday’s crossing of this amazing 10,000 ton, 662 metre Pont Canal which was completed in September 1896. This afternoon we visit Château de Sully-sur-Loire. The castle originally belonged to Georges de la Trémoïlle, who infuriated Joan of Arc by encouraging the Dauphin to devote himself to idle hunting in the forests around Sully. After Joan's failure to liberate Paris in 1430, de la Trémoïlle imprisoned her in the castle. In the 18th century, Voltaire, exiled from Paris, also spent time at the château. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6BRIARE TO CHATILLON-SUR-LOIREThis morning we wander around fruit and vegetable, seafood, cheese and French fashion stalls in the market in Briare before returning to Renaissance for a short cruise across the aqueduct and lunch on board. Afternoon visit to a renowned winery in Sancerre for a tour and private tasting. This medieval hilltop village overlooks a vibrant region which has known viticulture since Roman times. Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

Nymphea’s six-passenger Dutch design with its shallow draft is ideal for navigating the incredibly beautiful, yet somewhat sandy reaches of the River Cher in the Loire Valley, and thus very few other vessels navigate this delightful waterway.

Her traditional ship’s interior features a warm, classic décor of richly varnished hardwoods, stained glass and a welcoming country house atmosphere.

Nymphea has three comfortable cabins providing one twin/double-bedded and two

Monday, Day 2MOULIN DE NITRAY TO LARCAYA morning cruise through two locks takes us to the quaint town of Larcay where we moor under the weeping willows for lunch. Afternoon excursion to Château de Villandry, with its world-renowned Renaissance gardens. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3LARCAY TO VALLETAfter a morning cruise past no less than six private châteaux, we tie up opposite the hamlet of Vallet, a cluster of classic Tourangeau architecture grouped around its 18th century mill. From there we drive to Amboise on the banks of the Loire, where we visit the Royal Château d’Amboise and the Clos Luce, Leonardo Da Vinci’s home. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4VALLET TO CHISSAY-EN-TOURAINEWhile cruising in the morning we may pull in to the tiny landing stage next to Domaine de Fontenay. A two-minute walk brings us to the courtyard where we can taste their range of Touraine wines as an aperitif before lunch. In the afternoon we cruise under the 5-arch bridge of the impressive Châ teau de Chenonceau and moor at Chisseaux. From there we depart by air-conditioned minibus to visit the Château. Upon our return we cruise upstream to Chissay-en-Touraine. We have dinner tonight in one of the local restaurants specializing in Loire regional cooking.

Thursday, Day 5CHISSAY-EN-TOURAINE TO MONTRICHARDA morning cruise takes us towards the troglodyte village of Bourré and we moor near one of the more unusual dwellings, La Magnaneraie. The Coquillat family have grown up in this hillside troglodyte habitation, which has been in turn a wine cellar, a quarry for the tuffeau stone, and lastly, a silkworm nursery. After lunch we drive to Valencay, one of the most splendid châteaux of the Loire. We then cruise to Montrichard where we moor for the night. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6MONTRICHARD TO MOULIN DE NITRAYFollowing breakfast, a short stroll takes us to the heart of Montrichard and into one of the largest street markets in Touraine. We also explore the 11th century château overlooking the medieval town square. Before lunch we can visit the local vineyard of the Meriau family, to taste the regional Touraine vintages. After lunch, we enjoy another passage under Chenonceau and arrive at the hamlet of Nitray in time to visit the château and rose garden. Enjoy an aperitif from their vineyards before the Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

Saturday, Day 7MOULIN DE NITRAYAfter breakfast, disembark Nymphea and transfer to the designated drop-off point near Tours.

In the Summer and Autumn, Panache cruises the beautiful waterways of Alsace & Lorraine. It is a region in Eastern France with a unique mix of French and German cultures, Baroque and Romanesque architecture, storybook villages, diverse culinary specialities and wonderful white wines.

During our voyage we visit historic landmarks such as Strasbourg’s majestic Gothic cathedral and the enchanting village of Saverne where history traces back over 20 centuries to the

Gallo-Roman times. We also tour fascinating places such as Sarrebourg with its museum and the chapel containing Marc Chagall’s stunning stained glass windows, and visit the outstanding René Lalique collection of Nouveau and Art Deco glassware, chandelier and designs. We explore the rolling Vosges hills on the Route des Grands Crus, where the finest wines in Alsace are produced and of course experience an ascent or descent aboard Panache of the dramatic ‘boat elevator’ at Arzviller.

barge, with spacious public areas and six comfortable double or twin en suite cabins. All the bathrooms have twin handbasins and oversized showers. There are panoramic windows in the saloon and the hotel barge has been fitted out in traditional yacht style with brass and mahogany fittings. Sunday, Day 1STRASBOURG Guests are met at the designated meeting point in Strasbourg and transferred to Panache, moored by the Parc de L’Etoile, for a Champagne welcome and the first opportunity to meet your crew. There is time for a walk or cycle ride before dinner on board.

Monday, Day 2STRASBOURG TO WALTHENHEIM-SUR-ZORNThis morning we enjoy a tour of Strasbourg, including of course, a visit to the 12th century Gothic pink sandstone cathedral, home to an astronomical Renaissance clock and a soaring spire. We visit Place Gutenberg and explore La Petite France, a pedestrian area brimming with half-timbered houses, boutique shops and cafes. After lunch we cruise through the Brumath Forest to the picturesque village of Waltenheim-Sur-Zorn where the Captain takes you to a typical Hansel and Gretel style Alsatian inn. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3WALTHENHEIM-SUR-ZORN TO SAVERNEWe cruise to the enchanting town of Saverne where history traces back over 2,000 years to the Gallo-Roman times, mooring at the foot of the Château de Rohan, also known as the ‘Versailles of Alsace’. After lunch we enjoy a scenic drive into the rolling Vosges hills on the Route des Grands Crus, followed by a private tasting of Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir and Riesling wines. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4SAVERNE TO LUTZELBOURGAfter breakfast, a walk through the narrow streets of Saverne before we visit the hilltop 11th century Château du Haut Barr, a former residence of the bishops of Strasbourg. Afternoon cruise to Lutzelbourg where we gaze along the Zorn valley from the castle ruins overlooking our mooring. Dinner ashore at a local restaurant.

Thursday, Day 5LUTZELBOURG TO ARZVILLERWe start the day with a visit to a local bakery to watch skilled patissierie workers preparing their delicious creations, then visit the Fusion Libre artistic glass blowers workshop before ascending the unique Arzviller boat elevator that carries Panache effortlessly 450 feet up the mountainside in minutes. After lunch, we visit the mountaintop village of La Petite Pierre with its medieval castle, then tour the outstanding René Lalique collection and see over 500 exceptional examples of Art Nouveau and Art Deco glassware. Nearby Wingen-sur-Moder is also the World War II battleground where American infantry fought with distincton. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6ARZVILLER TO XOUAXANGEMorning tour of Sarrebourg, including visits to the 13th century chapel containing remarkable stained-glass windows designed by Marc Chagall, and the impressive museum of Roman and Medieval artefacts. Then back on board the hotel barge, whilst passing through the two Arzviller tunnels, a candlelit meal will be served followed by an afternoon cruise to Xouaxange. Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

Saturday, Day 7XOUAXANGEAfter breakfast, disembark Panache and transfer to the designated drop off point in Strasbourg.

The River Marne flows from Epernay to Paris, meandering through the beautiful region of Champagne. There is a plethora of vineyards spread across the undulating plains as far as the eye can see and there will be plenty of opportunity to sample the sparkling wine to which the region has given its name, including a private champagne tasting in the vast cellars of Moët et Chandon.

This is also a part of France that is rich in both modern and ancient history and during our voyage we visit a number of significant landmarks, châteaux and one of the finest Gothic cathedrals in the country where the kings of France were crowned.

As well as champagne, the region is rich in other delicious products, particularly its wonderfully creamy cheeses, with the towns of Meaux and Coulommiers at its heart.

Sunday, Day 1PARISGuests are met at the designated meeting point in Paris and transferred to the hotel barge mooring at the Port d ‘Arsenal, in the heart of Paris. Enjoy a Champagne welcome while your Captain introduces you to the crew. We embark on a short evening cruise through Paris past its famous landmarks and under romantic, floodlit bridges. Monday, Day 2PARIS TO MEAUXThis morning we depart Paris and join the River Marne for some relaxed cruising. After lunch, we visit the magnificent baroque Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte which inspired Versailles, with its exquisite décor and period furniture and manicured formal gardens. We then rejoin the hotel barge in Meaux in time for a stroll around the town. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3MEAUX TO LA FERTÉ-SOUS-JOUARREA morning cruise to La Ferté. After lunch we visit a master cheese ripener for a tasting of their various Bries, followed by a visit to the Merovingian Crypts in the Abbaye de Notre-Dame de Jouarre – an extraordinary historical site that originates from the 7th century. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4 LA FERTÉ-SOUS-JOUARRE TO CHÂTEAU-THIERRYWe are now in the Champagne region and cruise upstream to Charly. We visit one of the small family vineyards to taste their wonderful champagne and visit their cellars. Lunch is followed by an idyllic afternoon cruise to Château Thierry, scene of fierce battles between the American and German armies in World War I. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5CHÂTEAU-THIERRY TO DAMERYOur cruise this morning on the River Marne winds its way through vine-covered hills dotted with small wine villages to the delightful little town of Damery. This afternoon we visit the vast cellars of Moët et Chandon, the world-famous champagne house, for a private tasting, followed by a stroll around the elegant town of Epernay, the ‘capital of Champagne’. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6DAMERY TO CUMIÈRESAfter breakfast we cruise the last stretch of the River Marne before arriving at our mooring in Cumières. We tour the outside of the Abbaye d’Hautvilliers where the monk Dom Perignon first discovered the ‘méthode champenoise’. After lunch we visit the magnificent 800-year-old Reims cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece where the Kings of France were crowned. Return to the hotel barge for the Captains Farewell Dinner on board.

Cruise the western provinces of Holland, the land of water, past windmills sitting above the polders and along the very river which gave its name to Amsterdam. Lovers of culture come from far and wide to tour the traditional Dutch cities and their many museums. Delft, Leiden and Haarlem will charm you, just as they did the great Dutch artists.

Holland is famous, of course, for its tulips and visitors are entranced by the vivid colours of the bulb fields and the magnificence of the formal displays such as at the world-renowned Keukenhof Gardens. Other attractions, including the Delft Blue potteries and the medieval town of Gouda, the home of Dutch cheese, are equally memorable.

Monday, Day 2ALKMAAR TO ZAANDAMThis morning we visit Alkmaar, a beautiful coastal town famous for its traditional cheese and clog making, for a guided walk and free time to enjoy the quaint shops and town. After lunch we cruise to Wormerveer and then a bicycle ride or drive to Zaanse Schans, an open air conservation area and museum, giving you a vivid impression of the Dutch way of life in the 17th and 18th centuries. This area consists of authentic houses and windmills, an historic shipyard, pewter factory, a cheese and dairy farm and an age-old grocery store dating back to the 1900’s. Return to the hotel barge by bicycle or air-conditioned minibus and cruise to Zaandam. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3ZAANDAM TO HAARLEMEarly morning cruise to the historic city of Haarlem, dating back to the 13th Century. Haarlem is home to the Frans Hals Museum founded in 1862 with its vast collection of Old Masters. Other highlights include St. Bavo's Cathedral on the main square, where both Handel and Mozart played the magnificent Muller organ, or free time to visit the many boutique shops. This afternoon marks a cruise highlight, with a walk through the world famous Keukenhof Gardens. Known as the garden of Europe, with more than 100 acres filled with over 7 million flowering bulbs, we stroll through breathtaking waves of colour on this unforgettable half day excursion. Dinner ashore at a local restaurant.

Wednesday, Day 4 HAARLEM TO OUDE WETERINGAn optional early morning tour is to Aalsmeer flower auction, where some 17 million cut flowers from all over the world are traded here each day. Return to the hotel barge for a breakfast cruise to Oude Wetering. Free time this afternoon to cycle along the many towpaths around the lake or visit a local cheese market, in the nearby medieval town of Gouda. The large Gothic church of Sint Janskerk in Gouda is famous for its magnificent stained glass windows, for which it has been placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list of Dutch monuments. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5 OUDE WETERING TO LEIDENAfter breakfast we cruise to Leiden. Home to one of the oldest universities in the country and the birthplace of Rembrandt. Leiden is an historical city full of charm and character and perfect for those who like to cycle, or simply stroll the banks of the pretty tree-lined canals. This afternoon, we take a tour of the city, with your tour leader explaining the history that dates back to Roman times and includes more recent sites such as the church, St. Pieterskerk, from which the pilgrims departed for America. Free time to explore the many local cafes, boutique shops, markets and antique dealers. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6LEIDEN TO DELFTMorning cruise, arriving in Delft by lunchtime, our final mooring. Delft is world famous for its earthenware, which was styled on the imported Chinese porcelain of the 17th century. This beautiful, unspoilt city is more than 750 years old and began as the home port of the Dutch East India Company. Following lunch, we visit the Royal Delft factory, just 5 minutes' walk from our barge mooring to learn how this world-famous earthenware is made. You will have time afterwards to explore Delft further. Tonight enjoy the Captain's Farewell Dinner on board.

Sunday, Day 1 VENICEGuests are met at the designated meeting point in Mestre or Venice on Sunday afternoon and transferred to La Bella Vita for a Prosecco welcome. A late afternoon cruise takes us along the Giudecca Canal past some of Venice’s most famous monuments: the Chiesa del Redentore, the impressive Basilica di Santa Maria Madonna della Salute and the Punta della Dogana to our mooring outside the Naval Museum. Dinner on board, followed perhaps by an evening stroll to St Mark’s Square.

Monday, Day 2 VENICE TO SAN PIETRO IN VOLTA Guided walking tour to Castello District, perhaps discovering some hidden parts of the city of Venice: the gardens of the Biennale Exhibition of Modern Arts, Palladio’s Church of San Pietro in Castello, the Naval Museum with a model of the Bucintoro (Doge’s Boat) and the Pavilion of Gondolas housing Peggy Guggenheim’s own vessel. Late afternoon cruise to Pellestrina, which separates the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea, along the Canal of the Orphans passing lagoon islands with their ancient monasteries, painted fishing boats and tiny churches. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3 SAN PIETRO IN VOLTA TO TAGLIO DI POAfter a stroll or cycle along the 18thC Istrian sea wall in Pellestrina, we cruise to Chioggia, city of Goldoni’s plays. Here we visit the picturesque town centre and colourful fish market. We also see the Cathedral and the Piazzetta Vigo before rejoining La Bella Vita at the Po Delta. Passing through a nature reserve with flamingos and occasional heron, snipe and other wetland wildfowl, we travel upriver to Taglio di Po for dinner ashore hosted by the owners at the beautiful 17thC Villa Ca’Zen, a private stately home by the river where Lord Byron courted the Countess Giuccioli and wrote some of his best poetry.

Wednesday, Day 4TAGLIO DI PO TO BOSAROAfter breakfast we drive to the Bagnoli Estate where we visit the Renaissance gardens and wine cellars of the17thC Villa Widmann-Borletti for a private tasting of their renowned estate grown vintages. This winery has been supplying Venetian society for centuries. Afternoon cruise to Bosaro. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5BOSARO TO TREVENZUOLOMorning excursion with guided tour of the Renaissance city of Ferrara, including the 14thC Estense Castle with its moat, drawbridges, marble balconies and sumptuous apartments, and the Schifanoia Palace with its fabulous 15thC frescoes. We also see the cathedral façade with its sculpted images described as an Illustrated Bible. Return to the hotel barge for an afternoon canal cruise past villages and farmsteads to Trevenluolo and dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6TREVENZUOLO TO MANTUAOur final cruise has a dramatic approach to Mantua, home of the poet Virgil, artists Mantegna and Donatello and a captivating lakeside setting. Mantua displays extraordinary neo-classical and baroque architecture, portrayed in the 14thC Ducal Palace housing some 15 gardens and courtyards, a museum, basilica and theatre. The intricate frescoes, Gallery of Mirrors and exquisite Rivers Room and 12,000 paintings and sculptures all create a Grand Finale to our Italian Renaissance adventure. Monday, Day 2MUIRTOWN TO DOCHGARROCHThis morning we enjoy Cawdor Castle, forever immortalised in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The picturesque gardens have been listed as being amongst the top 100 in the UK. The castle contains a superb collection of tapestries, pictures and furnishings and the Dowager Countess of Cawdor still lives there for part of the year. We visit Culloden Moor, scene of the last major battle on British soil in 1746. The cruise today will take us up the Muirtown lock flight and through Tomnahurich swing bridge, with an option to walk alongside River Ness to Dochgarroch. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3DOCHGARROCH TO FORT AUGUSTUSToday we drive through stunning scenery to take a closer look at one of Scotland’s best known exports, whisky, at the Glen Ord distillery founded in 1838 on the Black Isle by the Mackenzies of Ord. A fascinating description of the distilling and maturing process of single and blended malts is followed by our special tasting. We also visit Clava Cairns, a clan chieftain burial site dating back to 2,000 BC. Our cruise today is through Loch Dochfour and down Loch Ness with perhaps a chance of spotting “Nessie” before arriving at Fort Augustus. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4FORT AUGUSTUSOn our excursion today we encounter some of the finest scenery Scotland has to offer as we take a drive to one of Scotland’s most photographed castles, Eilean Donan, which has featured in movies such as ‘Highlander’ and James Bond’s ‘The World Is Not Enough’ and overlooks three sea lochs. Later, we cruise up the “flight”, as locals call it, at Fort Augustus. This evening we have dinner ashore at a local restaurant.

Thursday, Day 5FORT AUGUSTUS TO LAGGAN LOCKSIn the morning we again encounter some of Scotland’s bloody past as we visit the ruins of Urquhart Castle. Later, a gentle drive will take us back to the Invermoriston Falls and the “Old Bridge” designed by one Thomas Telford. You may even see a salmon leaping. The cruise today can again be partially walked as we cross Loch Oich and onto the pretty Laggan Avenue. As we approach Laggan, our Highland piper greets us with some stirring tunes. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6LAGGAN LOCKS TO BANAVIEOur tour today takes us to the mystical battlefield of Glencoe, famed for one of the darkest days in Scottish history. If time permits, we also visit the ruins of Old Inverlochy Castle. Our final cruise today will see us sail along Loch Lochy through Moy Bridge, the last fully hand-operated bridge on the canal, before mooring at Banavie beneath Ben Nevis. Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

Saturday, Day 7BANAVIEAfter breakfast, disembark Scottish Highlander and transfer to the designated drop off point in Inverness.

Monday, Day 2HAMPTON COURT PALACE TO RUNNYMEDEThis morning we explore the magnificent Hampton Court Palace. We tour King Henry VIII’s apartments and the Royal Chapel, feel the chill in the haunted gallery and wonder at the Tudor kitchens. Outside, the gardens are breathtaking with The Great Vine, the oldest in the country still producing grapes and the famous maze. After lunch we cruise through Molesey Lock and moor at Runnymede. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3RUNNYMEDE TO WINDSORAfter breakfast, we have the option to use the spa facilities of the Runnymede-on-Thames Hotel. Then we cruise to Windsor, past the Magna Carta Memorial and Magna Carta Island where in 1215, King John was forced to meet the powerful barons and seal the historic document. Our afternoon excursion is to Windsor Castle. Built by William the Conqueror in 1066 and a royal home for over 900 years, this is the largest inhabited castle in the world. We explore the State Apartments, Queen Mary’s Dolls House, St George’s Chapel and enjoy the far-reaching views. Dinner on board.

Wednesday, Day 4WINDSOR TO COOKHAMThis morning we cruise upstream and take a short walk to the Tudor manor house of Dorney Court, a very special home that has been owned by the Palmer family for more than 450 years and used regularly as a film location. Then we cruise past the fabulous waterside houses of Bray and through the spectacular Cliveden Reach to moor at Cliveden House itself. Once home to the Astor family it has amazing gardens and was, of course, the scene of political scandal and intrigue. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5COOKHAM TO HURLEYAfter breakfast, we visit the Stanley Spencer Gallery and take a walk around the village he once described as ‘Heaven on Earth’, before cruising through Marlow to Hurley. We tour Peter Freebody’s boatyard and watch in wonder as the traditional craftsmen build and restore classic wooden craft. We have time to explore the ancient village including Ye Olde Belle, reputed to be the oldest inn in the country, before returning to the hotel barge. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6HURLEY TO HENLEY-ON-THAMESA morning cruise to Henley-on-Thames through fabulous countryside to our final mooring along the famous Henley Regatta Rowing Course. Then, an earlier lunch, followed by a drive to Oxford for a fascinating tour of Christ Church, Oxford’s grandest college, founded by Cardinal Wolsey and then again by King Henry VIII. The magnificent surroundings were also where Lewis Carroll wrote Alice in Wonderland. Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

We then circle back to the River Shannon and onto our mooring in Athlone Town. After lunch we visit the Kilbeggan Whiskey Distillery, dating from 1757 and the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world. On the return journey there is time for a visit to Ballinahown, an artisan craft village. Dinner on board.

Tuesday, Day 3ATHLONE TO SHANNONBRIDGEToday we negotiate Athlone Lock and head south through Europe’s richest example of “Callow” landscape. We moor at Clonmacnoise ruins, a famed 6th century university and an early monastic settlement. Following a tour, we cruise on to our mooring at Shannonbridge.Then, after lunch we visit “Leap Castle”, reputed to be Ireland’s most haunted house. You will be given a personal tour by the eccentric owner Sean Ryan, who, with traditional Irish musicians, will relate to you the fascinating history of the castle and its part in founding the American Constitution. After dinner on board, join the captain for a pint in Killeen's pub for some Irish music and an evening with the locals.

Wednesday, Day 4SHANNONBRIDGE TO TERRYGLASSThis morning, we cruise a very pretty stretch of the River Shannon through Meelick lock, pausing as Portumna swing bridge is opened to allow us passage onto idyllic Lough Derg and then moor at Terryglass Harbour. This afternoon we visit Birr Castle, still resided in by the Earl of Rosse and family, to see the magnificent gardens, the fascinating Science Centre and admire the historic Great Telescope. Dinner on board.

Thursday, Day 5TERRYGLASS TO MOUNTSHANNONA full day excursion, first to the walled gardens of Portumna Castle, then on to Galway City, a lively University City and cultural centre for Irish speaking regions in Western Ireland. Visit the Galway crystal, craft and linen shops and enjoy lunch at a traditional Guinness & oyster pub. We return to Shannon Princess and set sail across beautiful Lough Derg, passing Forrest Park and ancient mountains as we head for Mountshannon – a lovely lakeside village perched above the Lough. Dinner on board.

Friday, Day 6MOUNTSHANNON TO KILLALOEThis morning we set sail across south Lough Derg rejoining the River Shannon to moor at Killaloe, once home to the court of the greatest High King of Ireland, Brian Boru. After exploring this elegant little town we lunch on board, then set off to tour a unique project located in the grounds of Craggaunowen Castle, designed to bring Bronze Age & Celtic culture to life, before finally visiting a traditional Irish hand-weaving workshop. ‘Salinte’ cocktail reception and Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.

If you are looking for a different cruising experience, we offer a number of ‘voyages of exploration’ of varying duration along some delightful inland waterways in Holland, Belgium, France, Germany and Luxembourg. These cruises usually cover longer distances, so you will do more cruising each day.

There may be fewer opportunities to bike or walk but there is more time to appreciate the character of individual canals or rivers, particularly at times of the year when the landscapes are at their best.

And, of course, on all these cruises there will be a variety of culturally interesting excursions to cities and other landmarks as your hotel barge passes through each region.

You can take a 6 night cruise from Holland to the charming Belgian city of Bruges, or embark on a longer 11 or 13 night voyage by way of Bruges, Ghent and through the hills of Picardy, to Paris.

Alternatively, cruise through Paris, experiencing a fabulous night-time passage past the floodlit Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame and up the Rivers Seine and Yonne to the city of Auxerre in Burgundy. Or perhaps cruise along the River Moselle which forms a natural border between Luxembourg and Germany and where you will be enchanted by the backdrop of vineyards.

Families or groups of friends can charter any of the hotel barges. You will have the whole vessel to yourselves and she becomes a home from home, except that the crew takes care of all the hard work! Whether you are young or old or a combination of all ages, whether there’s cause for celebration, or just a chance to enjoy each other’s company…a family or friends’ charter cruise really does take some beating.

We recognise that hectic lifestyles allow little time for families to spend precious leisure time together and planning a holiday with children can be a real challenge, ensuring that the accommodation, meals and activities are all suitable. Our tailored family charters offer a perfect solution and the opportunity to share an experience that will be talked about over family dinners for years and generations to come.

The voyage itself is great fun. Grandchildren may find themselves steering their 126 foot vessel along a tree-lined canal, perhaps joining their cousins in the barge spa pool, or biking together on the towpath, as their parents relax alongside on the sun deck just a few feet away.

And having your own onboard chef means that meal arrangements are both enjoyable and flexible. Dinner can be enjoyed as a family, with perhaps a casual barbecue during the week for children to enjoy some alfresco dining.

Ashore, as well as our traditional visits to castles, palaces and old fortified cities, you have the possibility of other fun activities tailored to teenagers or younger children – please ask us for details.

We can arrange a wide selection of themed charter cruises which will appeal to all types of interest groups, big or small.

WINE APPRECIATION CRUISESAre available in a number of regions in France. On our wine charters you will be taken directly to the vineyards for private tastings where our wine expert will explain the grapes, cultivation methods and history at some of the “off the beaten track” vineyards. You will be tasting fine Burgundies such as Nuits St-Georges, Santenay and Vosne Romanée, often premier or grand cru vintages that your knowledgeable guide has chosen with care.

In the Loire Valley we will introduce you to crisp Vouvray and Touraine wines, nurtured for centuries by their Chateau-owning families, or further south you can enjoy the lighter, fruitier wines of Provence and the Languedoc-Roussillon. In Alsace there are the crisp white wines to be found on the Route des Grands Crus. Often your guide will buy wine on the tour for you to enjoy later in the day with a gastronomic feast provided by your imaginative onboard chef.

And for whisky lovers, we have even created our own Malt Whisky Trail in Scotland.

WALKING CRUISESThe beauty of hotel barging and walking is that two of the most relaxing holidays possible are merged to give you the best of both worlds. We have selected dates throughout the season for walkers to enjoy low-key hiking – perhaps along the Great Glen Way in Scotland, or in picturesque Burgundy in the Autumn when the colours of the countryside are at their finest.

GOLF CRUISESScotland, Ireland, England and France all have great golf courses such as Royal Dornoch, Wentworth, Sunningdale, Lahinch and Galway Bay which should be enough to inspire any keen golfer. Tee times can be arranged so that you have time to play a memorable round of golf and still return to your hotel barge to enjoy a relaxing cruise with superb food and wine.

TANDEM BARGE CRUISESThese are perfect for larger groups – perhaps a group of friends, or a large family spanning multiple generations, a wine club, a party of golfers, or a company incentive group – who require more cabins than a single vessel can provide.

Planned in advance, we can position two hotel barges on the same waterway, allowing as many as 20 passengers to cruise together in tandem. This is great fun as there is plenty of opportunity to sample the cuisine of different chefs, host cocktail parties and enjoy all sorts of activities while still cruising sedately along together.

OTHER CHARTER IDEASOther theme cruises can also be arranged with special itineraries, from Art Cruises in Burgundy, to Flower Show Cruises on the Royal River Thames in England.

Whether you are a connoisseur or simply know what you like, each cruise has something to offer when it comes to discovering regional wines and vineyards.

There is an enormous variety of regional wines – from Bordeaux and Medoc to the Corbières and Minervois regions of the South of France, East across the Camargue to Provence, past Picpoul de Pinet, Faugères and the Côtes de Provence vineyards, North along the Rhône and Saône Valley, through the Côte de Rhône and Beaujolais region to the Côte de Nuits and Chablis vineyards of Burgundy.

In the Upper Loire you will be introduced to the Côte Giennois and Sancerre wines, along the Loire Valley itself. In Alsace we explore the route des Grand Crus in the Vosges hills. The Champagne and Moselle regions also have excellent wines which, coupled with local liqueurs, complement your dining experience aboard. These days, there are great wines in Southern England and even the silver birch wines of Moniack Castle in Scotland find their way on board.

We have developed strong relationships with many renowned vineyards for over thirty years, seeing a new generation of viticulturers combining modern techniques with age-old processes.

Most of the Captains in the fleet have many years of experience and have acquired an in-depth knowledge of the vineyards and wines across France in particular. Part of their role as hosts is to share this accumulated knowledge with you during the week through vineyard visits and explanations of every wine served with care aboard.

Even if you are not normally a lover of shopping, the vast array of fascinating shops and markets you can discover on one of our cruises may change your mind.

Most of our cruises are through rural areas, but we are often just a short distance from some of the most wonderful old towns and cities in Europe, where there are great shopping opportunities.

You may want to visit some of the brocantes or ‘flea markets’ for unusual antiques, or perhaps you have an eye for the latest fashion and would prefer to browse around a couturièr's boutique, or maybe you just enjoy exploring the vibrant local marchés.

Whatever your preference, there are many shopping possibilities in some of the most picturesque parts of Europe which will allow you to embrace local culture as part of your holiday and, perhaps, even find the ideal memento of your cruise experience with us.

GETTING THERE CAN OFTEN BE HALF THE FUN!

Every European Waterways cruise is fully inclusive, except for travel to and from the designated meeting point, allowing passengers the freedom to make their own arrangements. Many guests prefer to extend their tour, staying at hotels before or after the cruise or making a more leisurely journey by car or train.

HOTELSOur designated meeting points mostly have a hotel option that we have carefully selected to offer a comfortable stay for one or more nights in the cruise region. Meeting times are predominantly on a Sunday afternoon, with return transfers on the following Saturday morning. For Burgundy cruises, return transfers are from a meeting point in central Paris such as the Hotel Westminster. Charter parties, can be met at any hotel or other meeting point of your choice within a 30 minute drive of the hotel barge.

BY CARDriving to the hotel barge through rural countryside at your own pace in your own or a hired car can be a very enjoyable “top and tail” to a cruise. For passengers travelling from the UK, there are many cross-channel routes, including the Eurotunnel which takes only 35 minutes. Parking is available at the meeting point hotel or at another convenient location. We can also provide clear directions, or a direct pick-up can often be arranged. Please note that parking is at your own risk and expense.

BY TRAINRail services in Europe, and particularly in France, are excellent. The high speed TGV trains operate from Paris to all regions and link up with the Eurostar trains from London. Transfer from local station to meeting point is usually very easy, or a direct hotel barge pick up can often be arranged from the platform. Your pre-cruise travel documents will give all the details necessary for you to make your train reservations in advance.

BY PLANEAs well as the major hubs such as Paris, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Brussels, there are many well served regional airports near our cruise routes such as Lyon, Montpellier, Carcassonne, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Venice, Verona and Inverness. Smaller airfields are also often conveniently located for passengers arriving by private or chartered aircraft.
