    Evaluation of Summaries of Articles

    1. The summary must be 250-500 words long, 1.5 spaced, 12 pt. font, one inchmargins.

    2. The summary must be from a peer-reviewed journal or a general interestenvironmental journal.

    3. News articles can be included to serve as an example for an article.

    4. Do not plagiarize the abstract from the article. Read the article yourself andsummarize it in your own words. The abstract should only be used as a guide tohelp you understand the article.

    5. Summaries that plagiarize the abstract or any part of the article will receive a

    grade of F with no opportunity to resubmit the assignment.

    6. Refer to the Undergraduate Calendar policy on plagiarism to understand whatplagiarism is and how to avoid it.

    Grade:

    1. Length: >250 words = 0

    250 - 400 words = 10

    400 - 500 words = 20

    2. Type of Article peer reviewed journal = 20

    general interest journal = 10

    + news article = +10

    3. Content

    explains complete argument in detail with selected examples tosupport = 30

    explains general outline of argument = 20vague, inaccurate, incomplete explanation of argument = 10

    + explains how it relates to the Chapter in Bell = +10
