• We had to think of a genuine idea instead of a ridiculous one. We had to decide which sound effects to use and where to get them. We had to also decide on which people (voice actors) we would use because of stereotypes (e.g. female voice = calm, relaxing, etc.) We also had to decide on which music to play in the background because it would set the advert for either being upbeat or dreary.

WHAT CREATIVE DECISIONS DID YOU HAVE TO MAKE TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AND HOW DID THIS DEPART FROM YOUR ORIGINAL PLAN?

Page 3: EVALUATION OF OUR RADIO ADVERT By Chris. We had to think of a genuine idea instead of a ridiculous one. We had to decide which sound effects to use and

• Peter – Getting used to the software and working out what to do.

• Chris – getting used the Sony Vegas software again and editing the radio advert

• Choosing the sound effects was tough because of that are script was quite vague and didn’t go into too much detail on what kinds of ‘screams’ and ‘explosions’ we would use.

BOTH INDIVIDUALLY AND WORKING WITH OTHERS HOW DID YOU WORK AND WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE?

• Arabian Salsa 2, the quick and catchy tune captured our listener’s hearts. Also used dramatic sound effects.

• We also used dialogue to help emphasise and explain our product more thoroughly.

WHAT ADVERTISING TECHNIQUES DID YOU USE TO HOOK YOUR INTENDED AUDIENCE?

• The technology we had available allowed a wide range of creativity due to all the sound effects and music we were able to use in our advert. We used sony Vegas to edit our advert, this was quite simple since I have used the same software before and I am familiar with editing sound for adverts. We also used Celtx to make our script which was very useful but we could of put more detail into it.

HOW DID TECHNOLOGY ENABLE THE CREATIVE PROCESS? WAS IT DIFFICULT TO USE ANY OF THE EQUIPMENT AND DID YOU LEARN ANY SKILLS?

• We used sound effects, music, dialogue. We used these in order to keep the advert interesting. We tried to make sure that it caught the attention of listeners through the use of sound effects and music. We used male voice actors because male voices are more assertive and truthful.

WHAT CONVENTIONS OF RADIO ADVERTS HAVE YOU USED AND WHY?

• We are representing the fictional company of Glass Box Headphones. We do this through discussing sound in the advert.

WHAT OR WHO ARE YOU REPRESENTING IN YOUR ADVERT AND HOW?

• Owen thought it was wonderful and was especially interested in the Arabian Salsa music which we like to think of as the theme tune of our product.

• Needs to be slightly shorter (8 seconds over allocated amount), recording was clear. Could have done with more layers in order to add to the atmosphere.

WHAT FEEDBACK DID YOU GET AND DID THIS HELP YOU REALISE ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT?
