Evaluation on TAR questions on my rough cut 2 of film and both my ancillary tasks:

What do you think the film is primarily representing?

 Answers:

‘From the film you can see that it is primarily representing teenage girls who are

involved in addiction and also sibling rivalry which is made worse by addiction or…

created by addiction’.

‘I suppose from what I’ve seen it’s representing a teenage girl immersing a world of

drug abuse and perhaps a bit of family issues’.

'I would say sibling rivalry is lie a main theme then lie the main issues of drug

abuse... young people doing drugs'.

All of my interviewees have pointed out the film is primarily representing sibling

rivalry and drug abuse. This shows me that my film is successfully representing thekey themes and issues within my film to my viewers. Therefore my film is sending out

the same representation this shows that my viewers aren!t getting mi"ed messages

as it clear what the film is set out to represent.

How do you think the ancillary tasks support this representation?

 Answers:

‘!aybe the poster not sibling rivalry but you can definitely see the dar tone of it

through the lighting and particularly the cigarettes and title…’.

‘I would say the poster supports this as the character in the mae"up used shows

she has a blac eye which shows abuse and lins in with the theme of abuse and the

maga#ine review shows two female characters… ones looing over the over perhaps

showing a hierarchy or some sort of rivalry’.

'$ell the poster the way its edited all mury... it shows a young person and even her

mae"up is done so that it shows that maybe she’s having problems... the

gloominess in the way its edited shows drug problems in the film'.

All my interviewees have pointed out a reason to one of the ancillary tasks supporting

the films representation. #ne of my $nterviewees stated !she has a black eye whichshows abuse! this shows the key themes and issues have been represented in the

poster. The results suggest that the poster supports the films representation as it

identifies the issue of drug abuse and that the maga%ine review supports the films

representation as it identifies sibling rivalry through the reviews picture. This has a

positive impact to the final stages of when editing my film as $ now know the ancillary

tasks back up the films representation. $t also will have an impact to the final stages

of editing my film as $! am going to edit some scenes to have darker lighting which

will create a dark style&tone to my film as identified in the poster.

How do you think they add to it?

 Answers:

‘$ell the film review tells you something about the film… the poster also the titles

%uite self evident… as you can see through the poster it tacles much of the main

issues we can see in the film already and the review elaborates… even the picture

you can see sibling rivalry& the pictures %uite symbolic.’

‘As I said before I pointed out the mae"up of the blac eye& suppose that adds as

well as lining to the theme of abuse it adds to it as in the film its clear she suffers

from drug abuse however it sort of shows physical abuse’.

'he review certainly adds because it offers a critical insight into the film and it also

offers e(tra information lie the cast and everyone who's wored on the film'.

All my interviewees have pointed out one reason to why at least one of the ancillary

tasks add to my film. 'y interviewees stated !the poster tackles much of the main

issues! !the review certainly adds because it offers a critical insight into the film! thisshows both ancillary tasks add to my film through the same issues. This has shown

me both ancillary tasks add successfully to my films representation due to the

themes and issues and e"tra insight the review provides therefore this will have a

positive impact to the final editing of my film as $ now know they add quite effectively

to my film.

Is there anywhere you think I can afford to lose footage?

 Answers:

‘)eah I thought the long tae in the beginning where the two girls were waling was a

bit too long it might of benefited from cutting down’.

‘I would say yes as at the moment its about two minutes over five minutes which is

the time it needs to be’.

')eah there's a point where there waling into the house and its at a door way& that

shot *ust dragged on for ages and ages'.

All of my interviewees agreed $ can afford to loose footage. #ne interviewee states

!where there walking into the house... that shot dragged on for ages! this shows $

could maybe loose some footage in this scene. The results have shown me that $

need to work on specific points in the film and cut it down. This will have an impact to

the final editing of my film as $! am going to listen to the advice of one of my

interviewees at the entrance of the girls at the door and loose some of the footage at

that point as it is rather long.

Is there any part out of the footage that you would say is less effective from atechnical point of view than the other scenes?

 Answers:

‘here was a scene near the beginning where the girl waling into the house and I

thought the panning was good but I didn’t lie that so much… there’s a bit of

hesitation’.

‘I suppose the bit where there waiting at the door perhaps goes on a bit so it could be

trimmed down’.

'I would say that shot I *ust mentioned about it being to long... editorially it's much

poorer than the rest of the film'.

All of my interviewees have pointed out a part of my footage that is less effective

from a technical point of view compared to other scenes. #ne interviewee stated !the

bit where there waiting at the door! this shows $ need to consider editing parts of this

scene. Two of my interviewees have both agreed $ need to change the scene of the

two girls waiting at the door therefore this is going to have a positive impact to thefinal editing of my film as $! am going to look at trimming this scene.

Do you think my three media products work well together?

 Answers:

‘)eah its of course obvious when you can see specially your rough cut… and poster

they wor together really well& I thin the poster creates meaning %uite easily through

the lighting… I thin the titles effective when your tacling things lie addiction

because it’s in your face the loo you were ind of going for which I guess helps

%uite a lot and the review… it wors well together again the picture wors really well

because your ind of getting the main theme with that…’.

‘I would say yeah they compliment each other %uite well& in each one informs the

audience about themes and issues of the film and certain plots’.

')eah... I thin the film review wors well... it offers a critical insight... the poster and

the film offer a real connection between each other as you see the muriness of the

photo in comparison to the drug abuse in the film'.

All my interviewees agree that my three media products work well together. #ne of

my interviewees stated !in each one informs the audience about themes and issues

of the film...! this shows they work well together through the themes and issues

represented in all of them. #verall the results show that my three products

successfully work well together.

Are the characters Molly and Macy represented the same throughout the three

products?

 Answers:

‘In the poster I don’t thin you really need the other one in the poster because !olly’s

the main character but I thin she’s represented really well and you now the ind of

thing she’s going to go through& I tae it she’s going to go through addiction… in the

maga#ine review as well you tal about their relationship I believe and of course the

picture again which is really effectively used in terms of its placing… ‘.

‘I would say yeah pretty much& in the film you can see them have a sisterly rivalry…

not so much in the poster cause one of the female characters isn’t in the poster… in

the maga#ine review the picture shows one standing over the other and lins to asisterly rivalry’.

')eah I would say they are you see a picture of them in the film review of her looing

down on her sister lie she is in the film when she starts to do drugs'.

All my interviewees roughly agree that the two sisters 'acy and 'olly are

represented the same through my three media products. #ne of my interviewees

stated !you see a picture of them in the film review of her looking down on her sister

like she is in the film when she starts to do drugs! this shows that there is a strong

connection of the representation of the sisters in the maga%ine review and the film.

The sister 'acy isn!t represented in my film poster therefore 'olly is only beingidentified by my audience. #verall the results shows that 'acy and 'olly have been

represented similar throughout.

Do the review and poster communicate the same type of

representation/meaning as the film?

 Answers:

‘$ell in a maga#ine review there’s not much meaning being created because its

more to inform people about the film rather than the product of the film… whereas

the poster definitely & it does communicate the same type of representation and evenin the maga#ine review… the picture in the maga#ine review definitely represents

what you were looing for especially the ind of presage sister relationship and the

girl looing down…’.

‘I would say the poster probably represents the film in a more of a darer lie seen as

the contrast and the blac eye e(aggerate… whilst the review informs the reader of

certain themes and issues… the picture of the two sisters seems a bit lighter

representing a different issue than the poster’.

')eah I would say they do'.

The ma(ority of my interviewees feel the review and poster communicated the same

type of representation as the film accept for one as they stated !$n a maga%ine review

there!s not much meaning being created because its more to inform people about the

film...!. The results suggest that both ancillary tasks represent the same meaning due

to themes and issues shown. #verall this mainly shows they communicate the same

type of representation as the film.

Do you think all three media products introduce the same themes and issues?

 Answers:

‘)eah accept for sibling relationship in the poster then again I don’t really thin you

need to represent it in the poster particularly as I thin your main theme as its the title

is addiction… you represent it in the maga#ine review so together as if you put them

into one they definitely represent the same ey themes as the film’.

‘I thin they lin together %uite well but I thin they introduce different themes and

issues whereas the poster portrays the issue of abuse and the maga#ine review

shows more of a sisterly rivalry whereas the film itself shows these to more…’.

')eah as I said themes of probably sibling rivalry& you see that in the poster and the

film review and the actual film& and the issues of drug abuse which you read about in

the film review but you see in the other two'.

All of my interviewees agree my three media products introduce the same themes

and issues e"cept for the poster as it doesn!t represent sibling rivalry due to only

'olly being represented. #ne interviewee stated !if you put them into one they

definitely represent the same key themes as the film! this shows that the different

themes and issues represented in the poster and review link bank to the film

therefore they may represent different issues than to each other but they do relate to

the film. #verall it shows my three media products roughly introduce the same

themes and issues that refer back to the film.

Do you think that some parts of editing could be improved?

 Answers:

‘…+o far the editing seems %uite effective particularly you’ve got the two girls waling

into the house perhaps if you really wanted to you could mae that scene a little

shorter’.

‘I thin the editing is %uite good but I believe the shots could perhaps be a bit shorter

and the editing could help bring the time down’.

')eah when their taing the drugs outside the shots... the order of them needs to

change slightly'.

All of my interviewees have agreed that my editing can be improved. #ne interviewee

stated within the drug scene that !the order of them needs to change! this shows $

need to look at the drug scenes sequence to represent it more clearly to my viewers.

This will have an impact to the final stages of the editing of my film as $! am going to

maybe erase some of the shots in the drug sequence or change the order around in

a suitable way.

What did you think about the font at the bottom of the oster?

 Answers:

‘It’s %uite unconventional for a film poster credit thing because %uite usually there be

very big and narrow whereas yours are %uite& very easy to read but I thin if it was to

be in yours it would ind of mess up the general style of it…’.

‘I thin it’s used %uite well it stics to industry conventions with some names in bold

and others not so bold… I thin is used %uite effectively.’

'I thin the way its layed out is very very good with the different colours and si#es

however I thin the font itself could be changed slightly to more of a film style font'.

All my interviewees feel the font at the bottom of my poster has been used in at least

one way quite well. #ne interviewee stated !$ think if it was to be in yours it would

kind of mess up the general style of it)* this showed me that the font at the bottom

can be seen unconventional for a film poster however it suits the style of mine

therefore this has a positive impact as $ know the poster can been successfully in the

way that it challenges film poster conventions.

What product would you improve and why?

 Answers:

‘… ,erhaps you could edit in the maga#ine review that paragraph because I don’t

thin it flows with the general te(t and maybe you mae the margins a bit more

effective… the film as I said you could maybe edit the beginning a bit so it’s a bit

shorter’.

‘I thin I would improve the film& *ust mae it a bit shorter…’.

'I would improve the actual film itself *ust because the editorial pace is off at points

and in a way its not standing up to how good the poster and the review are'.

All of my interviewees have pointed out one of the media products they would

personally improve. #ne interviewee stated !$ would improve the actual film itself...

its not standing up to how good the poster and the review are! this shows $ need to

improve my film by the use of editing in order for all three media products to have

strong relation to one another. This will have an impact to the final stages of editingmy film as two of my interviewees suggested to improve my film which $! am going to

do in order for it to be improved.
