and positively. These sections I will be looking at are:

Industry &
Professional
Codes
How might it affect your work
negatively?
(Planning and research as well as
production)
How did it affect your product
positively?
(Planning and research as well as
production)
Legal – Health
& Safety
In terms of health and safety this did
not affect my documentary in any kind
of negative way. This is because, I
carefully chose the locations I would
be filming at and the times I would be
filming. Another reason is because, for
each location I created a risk
assessment sheet outlining any risks
there would be when I am filming. For
example, for my vox pops I was filming
in Ilford town centre and some of the
risks were that the equipment could
get stolen or lost, someone got knock
the equipment over while filming, or it
could of rained/snowed while I was
filming.
To overcome these risks, I made sure
someone I was always with the
equipment, I set the equipment up
where it could not be knocked over, I
checked the weather at all times and I
took an umbrella in case it rained
unexpectedly.
This affected my product positively
because by creating the risk assessment
sheets I was outlining any risks and
hazards I would face at my filming
locations.
I created a risk assessment sheet for
every time I went out to film in a
different location which outlined the
different risks and hazards at that
specific location and uploaded each of
the risk assessment onto my blog.
For example, when I went to do my vox
pops in Ilford town centre I created a
risk assessment sheet for that location
and uploaded it onto my blog.

This would have affected my work
negatively, if I did not overcome those
risks by creating risk assessment
sheets or checking the weather
whenever I was going out to film. I
would have been unaware of any
risks/hazards that would have been at
the locations I was filming at and this
would of increased the risk of the
equipment get damaged or somebody
getting injured.

Legal –
Copyright
This did not affect my work in any kind
of negative way as I did not break any
copyright rules as I had permission for
any archive footage and music used in
my documentary. I had e-
mailed/telephoned the rightful owners
of the archive footage and the music
used in my documentary and asked if I
could have permission to use it in my
documentary.

The positive effect this has had on my
work is that I was able to use different
types of archive footage and music in my
documentary. For example, I had used
three different video clips going from old
to new as an introduction for one of my
interviews which made my documentary
more appealing to my target audience.
Also because, I had permission to use
the music in my documentary I chose a
fast paced song which summed up my
documentary and went well with what
was included in my documentary.
Legal - Libel This did not affect my work in any kind
of negative way as I did not say
anything bad or something which one
on my interviewees or anyone who
views my documentary could take as
an insult or something offensive. If I
had did that, then the BBC could have
refused to air my documentary or my
target audience may have refused to
view my documentary.
This had a positive effect on my work
because, while I was filming my work
and writing up my shooting script I knew
that I could not include anything that
would offend one on my interviewee’s
or any member of my target audience.
I could have broken this law by saying
something offensive about one of my
interviewee’s while I was introducing my
interviewee.
Legal – Data
Protection
This had affected my work in a
negative way because, when I did my
initial contact list I displayed my
potential interviews contact details
without their permission and I could
have got in trouble by being fined or
sued.
This had affected my work in a positive
way because, I had to display the names
of my interviewee’s and crew members
for this project on my school blog to
school my subject teachers.

list:

Legal & Ethical
– Race And
Ethnicity
This did not affect my work in any kind
of a negative way as I did not focus on
one race or ethnicity throughout my
documentary.
I also did not comment about race or
ethnicity throughout my documentary
either. This was because; my
documentary was aimed at all
ethnicities and races and not just one
race and ethnicity.
This did affect my work in a positive way
as my vox pops were people from a wide
range of different races and ethnicities.
I did this because, I could show my
target audience that my documentary
was not just focusing on one race and
ethnicity but it was aimed at all races
and ethnicities.
Here is a link to my documentary where
you can see during my vox pops at the
beginning that I have used people from a
wide range of different races and
ethnicities:

Legal & Ethical
– Privacy
This did not affect my documentary in
any kind of negative way because, I
had permission for all my interviews,
archive footage, music and vox pops in
my documentary.
I could have only broken this law if
there was someone behind the person
while I was filming which there was
not so I did not break this law as I took
the people I was using for my vox pops
to one side so I did not get anybody
else in the camera shot or angle.
This affected my documentary in a
positive way because, before I filmed
each interview I had got permission from
the interviewee via telephone/e-mail
which insured that I had permission to
conduct the interview and film them.
In most cases I had to contact the record
label to ask if I could have an interview
with the person I would have liked to
interview and I would have had to
arrange a date and time like that. Also
when I was filming in a public
area/location I had to be careful when I
was filming that I did not get anyone
that was not meant to be in the shot in
it.

I had sent and received to my
interviewees:

Project Specific
- Budget
The budget which I had been given at
the start of the project was £5000.
This did not affect my project in any
kind of negative way because, I did not
go over this budget. I had a slight
problem as I had just kept under this
budget and that could have affected
me in a negative way but it didn’t.
Here is the link to my budget for this
project:
http://jagvirtiwana94.blogspot.co.uk/2
012/01/unit-4-budget.html
This had affected my project in a positive
way as this budget was not real as the
equipment which I required was
provided to me by the school as this was
a school project. By that I mean I did not
have to pay any location fees, copyright
fees etc.
Project Specific
- Technology
This did not affect my project in any
kind of negative way as I felt the
equipment and technology which I
used throughout my project was good
and I knew how to use the equipment
and technology which I had to use.
This had affected my project in a positive
way as the equipment which was given
to me to film my documentary was very
good and I could film different shots
with different angles using the
equipment given.
Also the software which I had used to
edit my documentary was good as you
could do different things using that
software to make the documentary look
more professional and appealing to my
target audience.
All the equipment and technology used
throughout this project helped me
produce a good quality documentary.
TV Industry
Specific –
Regulatory and
self-regulatory
(BBC)
Out of all nine of the BBC ethical codes
used I have broken one of the ethical
code which is privacy.
I broke this ethical code when I was
creating my initial interview contact
list for my content research as I
displayed my interviewee’s details
without having their permission to
display the details. I could get fined or
sued for breaking this ethical code and
my documentary could also not be
aired on the BBC because, of this.
The BBC ethical codes have affected my
documentary in a positive way because,
there were laws which I had to stick to
and follow which helped me make a
good documentary without leading my
target audience on or telling them the
wrong information.
