How does your media product represent particular social groups

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Social class My target audience is aimed at ages 35+,I chose to target this social group because I wanted to challenge myself and find out more on formal magazines especially in finding out there interests. It is aimed at both Male and Female associates, with a working class of social grade: A, Social status: Upper working class and Occupation: higher managerial administrative. This is following the National Readership Survey (NRS) Demographic categories.

Problems with my social classMany sociologists believe that media representations of ethnic minority groups are problematic because they contribute to the reinforcement of negative racist stereotypes. Media representations of ethnic minorities may be undermining the concept of a tolerant multicultural society and perpetuating social divisions based on colour, ethnicity and religion. Evidence suggests that, despite some progress, ethnic minorities are generally under-represented or are represented in stereotyped and negative ways across a range of media content. In particular, newspapers and television news have a tendency to present ethnic minorities as a problem or to associate Black people with physical rather than intellectual activities and to neglect, and even ignore, racism and the inequalities that result from it. Stereotypical representations Ethnic minorities as criminals Black crime is the most frequent issue found in media news coverage of ethnic minorities. Van Dijk found that Black people, particularly African-Caribbeans, tend to be portrayed as criminals, especially in the tabloid press and more recently as members of organised gangs that push drugs and violently defend urban territories.

Representation of ethnicity What significant is this magazine almost represents Afro Caribbean/ African American people in a positive way instead of a negative. Introducing new fresh artists who are doing something with here life instead of being poor, aggressive or slaves.
