Evaluation Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task (the college magazine), what

do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

The clone stamp was good to use on my models skin. There were a couple of spots and

imperfections on her skin so I was able to get rid of those so that the readers attention wouldn’t be

distracted.

Colour matching was a key tool I used as it allowed me to ensure my magazine had a constant colour

scheme. Infact I took the colour of my models lipstick and encorporated it amongst the coverlines

and mast head.

It is clear to see that my skills using

photographic instruments and computer

programmes such as Adobe Photoshop have

developed a great deal since I initially began

this process.

In the student magazine the main tools I used

were the text tool, fill tool and the custom

shape tool. I also used the eraser to edit

around the main image however it is very

blurry around the edges and not very tidy.

On my final pieces I used a number of new

tools which I found very useful! These include:

The quick selection tool was particularly

useful when I was changing the colour of my

mast head.

I used the blending options on most of the

text. For example I put a drop shadow on the

cover line “214 season must haves” so that it

would stand out infront of the patterened

background. The dropshadow on ‘must’ has

heavier than the rest so that it was more

effective.

When deciding how my magazine should look I thought it should be clean and simple but still

eyecatching with bright colours. The fonts I used were a mixture of serif and sans serif so that they

could stand out from eachother.

The type of article I chose to feature was a fun and relaxed interview which wasn’t too serious. I

wanted it to be something which you could pick up for a light read but still find it interesting and

want to read it. I ensured the type of questions asked in the interview were relevant to things my

audience would want to know about. For example where does the artist go shopping.

Before deciding how I wanted my magazine to look and the type of content in both text and picture

form it should contain I chose to look at various magazines of a similar genre to mine. This helped

me massively to compare how they use different techniques and gave me an idea of what style I

wanted to pick.

Having done the preliminary task I could as my friends and classmates for their opinions and ideas

they felt work and didn’t. Because I had this feedback I could chose which styles to or not to carry

forward in my two final pieces.
