INTRODUCTIONThe Church’s mission, received from Jesus Christ through the apostles, is to proclaim the Good News of Salvation to every human being. The process through which the Church fulfils this mission is called “evangelisation”.

Catholic schools evangelise by: • Striving continually to be effective schools. • Teaching students to integrate faith, culture and life (Mandate Document 18).

In “The Joy of the Gospel” (Evangelii Gaudium), Pope Francis gives encouraging advice for the Christian community about the importance of sharing their faith:

• Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelisation. • Evangelisers must be joyful ministers of the Gospel whose lives glow with the joy of Christ. • We are called to be a community which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets. As Pope Francis reminds us, we must get to know and care for all of our people - to have “the smell of the sheep.” • We are called to be a supportive community, standing by people at every step of their journey.

All staff members are called to be the face of Jesus in our community - role models for students, families and each other through interactions grounded in the integrity of our College values of Compassion, Courage and Respect.

THE RNDM CHARISM The Congregation of Our Lady of the Missions (Religieuses de Notre Dame des Missions - RNDM) is a Roman Catholic religious congregation of women

founded in 1861 by Adèle Euphrasie Barbier in Lyons, France. She later took the religious name Mother Mary of the Heart of Jesus and dedicated herself from an early age to religious life. On 25 December 1861, Euphrasie Barbier founded the RNDM congregation, with the primary

focus of working in the foreign missions. The RNDM Charism is embedded in our faith life, our service of others, and is reflected in the College’s core values of

Compassion, Courage and Respect. It presents a vision of education focused on the mission spirit and based on Contemplation (prayer); Communion (respect and understanding of others); and Mission (service and

outreach). Foundationally, faith is lived in relationship. People are important, especially the indigenous, migrants and refugees, the marginalised and those in poverty.

THE COLLEGE PRAYERLoving God,

Thank you for the Sacred Heart College family, for the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions,

and the staff, students and parents who have lived their faith in this community.

As you walk with us on our journey, nurture us with your love,

helping us to develop our spiritual, academic, cultural and sporting gifts.

Help us to use our talents in the service of others, that we might see your image in all whom we meet,

living out Jesus’ call to go beyond ourselves with compassion, courage and respect,

and always striving upwards to you, our God.

Amen

L: Sacred Heart of Jesus; R: I place my trust in you.
