REV. LADD 2ND ANNIVERSARY

YOUTH GMBC

On Sunday, July 10, at 4:00 p.m., Pastor Alexander and the Antioch Family will worship with the First Baptist Church, Rev. Terry Ladd, Pastor in Chattanooga, TN. This momentous occasion will celebrate Pastor Ladd’s 2nd Anniver-sary. The Choirs of Antioch and Musi-cians are asked to render the music and all Ushers, Deacons and Mothers are asked to be on duty. Buses will be available. Members and friends are encouraged to attend.

The General Missionary Baptist Con-vention (GMBC) Congress of Christian Education is scheduled for July 18-22 in Kingsland, GA. We are in the pro-cess of identifying children between the ages of 10-15 who would like to participate as Antioch delegates. Par-ents of children in this age group can pick up a copy of Antioch’s Criteria and Selection Process along with a regis-tration form in the Northex after both services today. The registration form should be completed and submitted to the Church Nursery TODAY. If you are unable to submit the form today, it may be submitted to the Church Offi ce on Monday, June 27. You may also email your completed form to [email protected]

FELLOWSHIP • July-SeptemberMy Brothers and Sisters,

I want to use this opportunity to thank the Men’s Division for the strong and focused leadership that has been exemplifi ed during this quarter as our Con-gregational Family has given considerable study and attention to Evangelism.

Deacon Calvin Booker, Deacon Milton Dodson and Brother Darryl Speed have provided outstanding directions in drafting programs, activities and outreach opportunities designed to strengthen our Antioch Family’s Evangelistic out-reach. The months of April, May and June of 2011 will go down in the annals of our church’s history as a remarkable quarter in our efforts to bring new converts to Christ. I am convinced that Brothers Booker, Dodson, and Speed are men of righteous persuasion! They apply Christian principles in launch-ing activities that require the participation of others. For their servant leader-ship, we are a more vigilant congregation in our evangelistic outreach.

Today we are blessed to have as our Worship Speakers two of Antioch’s proven leaders, Brother Barney Simms and Deacon Jerome Trimble. Both have a history and legacy of service at Antioch. Brother Simms is a trustee of this Church and Deacon Trimble serves as Chairman of our Deacon’s Ministry. They both know that all joy comes from the Lord…and seemingly that joy gives them the strength to run a strong spiritual race.

This morning I am calling upon every adult member of Antioch to make a spe-cial sacrifi cial offering above your usual tithes and offerings to support the ministries, programs and outreach efforts of our Church Family. Our sacrifi -cial gifts will be welcomed during these economically challenging times when so many of God’s people continue to have special needs and look to the Church for help. The principle of sacrifi ce is illuminated in Hebrews 13:16…”Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifi ces God is pleased.”

It is my prayer that all of us will let joy, a fruit of the Spirit, fl ourish in our lives so that joy can help us all be a blessing to others as we Bear the Cross of Jesus Christ.

Yours In God’s Service,

Rev. Cameron M. AlexanderPastor

Men of Antioch North; Bearing the Cross of Jesus Christ

Today, the men of Antioch pass the leadership for Vision 2011 to our Youth Division. It has been an honor and a blessing to have led the mem-bership in the celebration of Vision 2011 with an emphasis on Evange-lism. While we will provide support and assistance to our youth, the men recognize that this is their quarter for leadership. This is their time to be about our “Father’s business.” As we prepare to assist our youth in their demonstration of our four pil-lars with an emphasis on Fellowship, we thank Pastor Alexander for giv-ing us the opportunity to serve God in such a tremendous capacity.

Brother Simms has established a remarkable record of volunteerism to Atlan-ta’s children and to the vitality of Atlanta neighborhoods covering more than three decades of service. Brother Simms currently serves as Chairman of the Board for several important Atlanta organizations that support the needs of children and families, including Chairman for the Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services, Chairman of the Board of the Atlanta Metro-politan College Foundation, Chairman of the Board for the Atlanta Victim As-sistance, Inc., and Co-Chairman of the Board for the Walter and Andrew Young Family YMCA in Southwest Atlanta, and a member of the Boards of Trustees for Literacy Action, Inc., and the Antioch Urban Ministries, Inc.

Brother Simms is a highly regarded champion for the growth and vitality of Atlanta neighborhoods. He serves as the President of the BonnyBrook Neigh-borhood Association and Co-Chaired Mayor Shirley Franklin’s BeltLine Tax Al-location District Feasibility Study Steering Committee with Dr. Carl Patton, for-mer President of Georgia State University. When completed, the BeltLine will convert underused rail corridors around the city core into a continuous system of transit and greenways surrounded by parks and pedestrian-friendly mixed use centers of development.

Brother Simms is a well respected and infl uential thought leader for civic en-gagements that promote community building and civic pride. He has been honored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Atlanta Planning Advisory Board, and Concerned Black Clergy and of course by his Church Family and a variety of other civic organizations for his community service.

Brother Simms has been commended twice by the State of Georgia’s Sec-retary of State Offi ce as an Outstanding Georgia Citizen. He is the recipient of the Phoenix Award from the City of Atlanta and has been cited as one of Atlanta’s most infl uential citizens in the past fi ve editions of Who’s Who in Black Atlanta. Brother Simms has received the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Outstanding Leadership and Community Service and he was honored as a Man of Infl uence by the Atlanta Business League.

Brother Simms has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Knoxville Col-lege (Tennessee) and a Master of Science Degree in Library Science from Clark Atlanta University (Georgia). He is a graduate of Leadership Atlanta and the Academy for Community Leadership, Advancement and Innovation at North Carolina State University.

Mr. Simms is a trustee at the Antioch Baptist Church North and the father of two adult children and six grandchildren.

Deacon Trimble was born to Bobby and Mary Ann Trimble on July 14, 1960 in Canton, Georgia. Both parents migrated from Opelika, AL to Canton Ga. in search of job opportunities in the local textile mills. At a very early age in Jerome’s life and for reasons unknown, his father left the family which consisted of two boys and three girls. Without a father and in the hands of a single parent, the family persevered through those hard times under guidance from God, his mother, his grandmother, aunts, uncles and a host of support-ers from the community. Jerome and his siblings were all baptized at Zion Baptist Church in Canton GA. He graduated from Cherokee H.S. in 1979, then attended DeVry Institute in Atlanta, GA and graduated in 1981.

Jerome started working for the NCR Corporation in 1981 as a Quality Assur-ance Technician. The facility was located in Peachtree City, GA some eighty miles from Canton, and after commuting for several months, he moved to the south side of Fulton County to be closer to his job. In 1984, he became a Field Engineer and in 1996, he accepted a position in remote support as a Technical Support Specialist. In the year 2000, he accepted a position in Management until the company decided to move his department to Columbia, SC in 2001. NCR allowed him to stay in Georgia and work as a virtual employee for the next 9 years in the customer support department. Like so many others af-fected by this down turn in the economy laid offs came to his department and he was downsized. He is currently working as a computer consultant for B. J. Trimble and Associates, a company that he started. In addition he is looking at opportunities for investing in real estate.

In 1982, he met Virginia Robinson who had just started working with NCR They started dating in 1983. Jerome and Virginia were married on March 22, 1986 at Antioch Baptist Church North by Rev. C. M. Alexander. To this union two children were given Dennis J. Trimble, currently attending Morehouse Col-lege and Andrea J. Trimble, currently attending Savannah State University.

Deacon Trimble joined Antioch Baptist Church in August 1983 under Christian experience. He started volunteering in the Food Bank Ministry in the Family Life Center under Deacon Lem Bowie, Sis. Betty Harris, and Mother Frances Miles. A valuable lesson was learned about the church’s role for taking care of the least, the less and the lost. He also joined the Male Chorus, the Psalms 150 Choir, Higher Ground, Sunday school, the July Birth Month Club and the Jr. Deacon’s Ministry. He is currently the Chairman of the Deacon’s Ministry, Chairman of the College Scholarship Advisory Board, Chairman of the Walton Management, Inc. Board, a member of the Antioch Development Committee, the church’s Budget Committee and the Christian Education Ministry.

Men of Antioch Bearing theCross of Jesus Christ

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it

profi t a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
