We are living in the greatest days of Harvesting in history!

Evangelical Christianity is growing faster than Islam and two times faster than Buddhism and Hinduism.

* Explosion of the non-western Church *

• True Christianity has grown by more than 300 million believers in the past ten years.

• About 10 million of these new Christians are from North America and Europe

The Global South: The new faces of Evangelical Christianity

• 1948 less than 1 million believers.

• 2013 conservative estimates suggest over 100 million believers. Most all of the growth has been in the last 35 years.

• Over 12,000 new Chinese believers every day! The great need is for pastoral training.

The Command to “make disciples” precedes “teaching them to obey”

“Only babies who have been born can be educated. … The church must indeed ‘teach them all things,’ but first she must have at least some Christians and some congregations.”

Therefore… “the ultimate evangelistic goal in the New Testament is twofold: (1) To make responsible, reproducing Christians, and (2) responsible, reproducing congregations.” Virgil Gerber, God’s Way…, p18.

The Goal = Mature in Christ “He is the one we proclaim,

admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.” Colossians 1:28

The Evidence = Reproduction Maturity is not measured by continual

growth, but by the capacity and willingness to reproduce.

Focus and Method…

Focus = Biblical Discipleship… Disciples are not merely converts but also

doers, learners, students, Christ followers, or better yet, “apprentices of Jesus.”

Method = Relationship Jesus invited people into relationships with

himself; he loved them and in the process showed them how to follow God. His primary method was life-on-life.
