Two years ago, UE defeated Hofstra in the fi rst round of the CBI to grab their fi rst postseason win since 1989 against Oregon State.

*NCAA College Division National Championship year- 1965 team went undefeated (29-0)

Aces In The Postseason The Opening Tip- For the fi rst time, the Aces advanced to the quarterfi nals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament following an 86-72 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday- The win gave UE its fi rst 20-win season since 1998-99 while marking the fi rst time Evansville won two postseason tournament games since the championship season of 1971- UE is just three wins away from taking top honors in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament- The other remaining teams include Loyola (Md.), East Carolina, Canisius, Bradley, Northern Iowa, Weber State along with Oral Roberts and UC Irvine, who play their second-round game on Wednesday

Special Day At The PAC- For the fi rst time in 42 years, the Purple Aces won two postseason contests after defeating Eastern Kentucky- The championship season of 1971 was the last time UE has won more than one game in a postseason tournament as the Aces went a perfect 5-0 en route to their fi fth NCAA College Division National Championship- Evansville also reached the magic 20-win mark for the fi rst time in 14 years; the last time UE did so was in the 1998-99 campaign where they posted a 23-10 record

Three In A Row On The Road- Tuesday’s game at Canisius can put an end to another long streak as UE is looking for its third consecutive road victory- The last time the Aces did so came in the magical 1998-99 season with consecutive road wins at Wichita State, Missouri State and Indiana State- In its last two true road games, UE topped Wright State before earning its fi rst win at Wichita since 2001

6-1 Stretch- Over the course of the last seven games, the Purple Aces are an impressive 6-1 as they continue to peak at the best time of the year- It is the third such streak in the Marty Simmons era as UE had a 6-1 streak in the 2010-11 season and started off the 2008 year at 7-1- Shooting has been the primary diff erence in the streak as UE has outshot the opposition 47.2%-40.1% while also owning a 46.9%-30.2% edge from outside- Colt Ryan has averaged 23.9 points per game over that stretch while also contributing on defense with eight steals and 4.9 rebounds per game- The Aces own a +2.4 rebounding edge and a +1.9 lead in turnovers

Postseason Road Contests- Tuesday’s contest at Canisius will mark the 13th true road postseason game for UE since 1957 as the Aces have won 8 out of its fi rst 12- Boise State marked the lone Division I opponent that UE has faced on the road as they fell to the Broncos by a 75-69 fi nal in the CBI two years ago- In the NCAA College Division, Evansville posted an impressive 8-3 mark in road tournament games

Long Range Shooting- As Evansville prepares to face one of the top 20 teams in the nation in 3-point shooting, the Aces are hoping to use their defensive eff orts from the last four games to try and handle the Griffi ns- The last four games have seen the opposition hit just 29.6% of its treys while UE has heated up beyond the arc, draining 45.1% of its attempts- Those eff orts included Indiana State combining to hit just 11 out of 39 treys before Tennessee State went 7-of-32; EKU hit the top percentage at 40.7% (11/27), but after starting the game 4-4, EKU hit just seven of their fi nal 23 attempts- Tennessee State attempted 32 3-pointers, that marked the most that an opponent has put up in the Coach Simmons era at UE

The CIT- 2013 will mark the fi fth annual CollegeInsider.com Tournament, which started in 2009- Past winners of the tournament include: Mercer (2012), Santa Clara (2011), Missouri State (2010), Old Dominion (2009)- Evansville played in inaugural event in 2009, falling to Belmont in a home game at Roberts Stadium by a 92-76 fi nal; the Bruins scored 49 in the fi rst half before outscoring UE by a 43-41 margin in the second half to take the win- Other MVC teams who have played in the tournament include Bradley (2009), Creighton (2010), Drake (2009 and 2012) Indiana State (2012), Missouri State (2010) and Northern Iowa (2011)- UE is one of three MVC teams in this year’s tourney as UNI and Bradley have also accepted bids

MVC Postseason Honors - Four players were named to various MVC postseason teams- Colt Ryan earned All-MVC First Team honors for the second year in a row; the only other Ace to be named to the list on two occasions was Marcus Wilson in 1998 and 1999- Ryan also became the third 2-time MVC Scholar Athlete of the Year while earning a berth on the Scholar Athlete Team- For the second year in a row, Troy Taylor earned a berth on the All-Defensive Team; he is just the third player in program history to make the list- A pair of freshmen earned All-Freshmen Team honors as D.J. Balentine and Egidijus Mockevicius took a spot on the 5-player list; they are the third Evansville duo to be named in the same year- Balentine was also named to the MVC All-Bench Team on March 6

Preseason Honors - Senior Colt Ryan has received several preseason accolades entering the 2012-13 campaign. Those include: - MVC Preseason All-Conference Team - SENIOR Class Award Watch List - Lou Henson Preseason All-America Team - No. 3 Under-The-Rader Player (CBSSports.com) - No. 11 shooter on Luke Winn’s Top 16 list (SI.com)

    Tale of the Tape

Th is will mark the fi rst meeting between Evansville and Canisius. Th e Golden Griffi ns are members of the Metro Atlan-tic Athletic Conference. Th e Aces have faced three other MAAC members while posting a 4-1 record. Below is the mark against other MAAC foes for UE:

    Iona 1-0Rider 1-0Siena 2-1

More On Colt- He is the No. 2 scorer in the MVC and is tied for 18th in the nation with 19.8 points per outing- Since the game at Butler in December, Ryan has tallied double fi gures in 22 out of 23 games- Against Drake, Ryan surpassed the 2,000-point mark in style, recording a season-high 33 points; in the 23 games since Butler, he has posted an average of 22.7 points per game after struggling to begin the year as he averaged 12.4 points in the fi rst 11 contests- In two games versus the Bulldogs this year, Ryan drained 30 out of 31 free throws; for the season, he is shooting a league-leading 89.7% from the line- A steady player on the defensive end, Ryan will leave UE with the most steals in school history; he continues to add to his total, which stands at 181; Reed Jackson was the previous record holder with 150- Ryan is back at 100% following a hip pointer and led the MVC in conference minutes played with 37.4 per game; that is 1.7 minutes more than anyone else in the league averaged

MVC Free Throws- One of the top free throw shooters in MVC and UE history, Colt Ryan is fi fth in all-time free throws made with 570 in his career; with six at Wichita State, he passed Roger Phegley of Bradley, who played from 1974-78- Up next on the list is Bob Harstad of Creighton, who tallied 588 in his career- His 9-for-12 outing against Illinois State helped him jump four spots on the list, most notably passing Larry Bird’s tally of 542 set in his career at Indiana State, which spanned from 1976-79

So What Is The Diff erence?- After a 4-1 start in league play, the Aces won three of their next ten games, however, after that, the Aces their fi nal four games of the regular season while winning fi ve out of six overall- The defense has been the story in the recent streak; in the 9-game stretch, 38.8% of the opponents threes have been good, but the last seven games saw just 30.2% of those shots connected on- Another story has been the 3-point shooting for UE; in the 3-6 slide, they hit just 31.2% of their treys, however, the recent 6-1 stretch has seen an unbelievable 46.2% of those shots reach the bottom of the net

Back In Form- D.J. Balentine has found his stroke once again, resulting in berths on the MVC All-Freshman Team and the All-Bench squad- Balentine got back on track with 18 points and Wright State, since then he has posted 10.8 points per contest, second on the squad behind only Colt Ryan- Balentine has been sharp over that span, draining 48.1% of his shots, including 13 out of 24 treys (54.62%); that is a sharp improvement over his numbers in the fi rst 16 MVC games as he posted just 5.4 PPG while shooting just 29.9% (32-107) overall and 24.6% (14-57) from 3-point range- In the win at Wright State, he found the bottom of the rim seven times, including four 3’s en route to 18 points; last time out, he knocked down all three treys that he attempted vs. EKU- With his average of 15 PPG in the games against Miami and Murray State, Balentine garnered MVC Newcomer of the Week honors on Dec. 10; it was the fi rst honor for a UE player this season- His 26-point outing against Colorado State was the top eff ort by a freshman since Colt Ryan notched 31 at Creighton in his freshman campaign of 2009-10. It still marks the top scoring output for a UE player this season

Nelson Stepping Up- Through UE’s fi rst 29 games of the season, sophomore Jordan Nelson tallied just 26 points while six 3-pointers- In the last fi ve games, he has made a full 180, nearly matching his output in the fi rst part of the season as he has posted 27 points over that span; he has been almost automatic from long range, knocking down six out of eight treys - His fi ve points at Wichita State may have been the most important fi ve as they ended scoreless droughts while helping the Aces to the win- Against Indiana State, all 11 of Nelson’s points came in the fi rst half as he helped the Aces to the halftime lead and the win; the 11 tallies marked a career high

Quick Facts Wing Making Impact In Starting Lineup- One of the special stories for UE over the last eight games has been the play of Adam Wing, who has started each of those contests- Prior to making his fi rst start, Wing had not played more than 20 minutes in a game, however, in the games since, he has played at least 23 minutes in seven of those contests while averaging 4.1 boards- Through the fi rst 26 games of the year, Wing hauled in just 41 rebounds, he has registered 32 in the eight games since- Wing saw 214 minutes of action (10.7/gm) in the fi rst 26 games for UE, but the last eight have seen him on the fl oor for 208 minutes (26.0/gm)- After a 10-point, 7-rebound eff ort versus Creighton, Wing came back with a career-high 35 minutes of play against Illinois State and has set a career ark with 8 rebounds in the games at Wright State and Wichita State- Just as important as his eff orts on the stat sheet was the fact that he has been called for just 11 fouls in his last 179 minutes of action; entering the Illinois State game at the Ford Center, Wing averaged 6.3 fouls per 40 minutes of play

Defending The Ford Center- In just its second season, the Ford Center has proven to be a tough place for the opposition to play; last season, UE was 11-7 at home before winning 15 of its 18 home contests this season

Saving His Best For Last- Ned Cox is looking to put the perfect fi nishing touch on a solid career at UE- Despite suff ering a slight injury at Wright State, Cox has still managed to put together his top season, notching a total of 366 points thus far, besting his total of 293 a season - The San Antonio, Texas native has scored at least eight points in all but six games, three of those coming since his injury- Prior to suff ering injury against the Raiders, Cox was on fi re, hitting 16 points in three of the prior four games; since the game at SIU, he has connected on 15 out of 30 shots from long range- Cox has been rocketing up the all-time UE scoring list; since registering his 1000th points, Cox has moved up to 34th on the list after hitting the 1000-point mark with 10 at Bradley- He passed Reed Jackson on the list with 13 tallies vs. EKU, he has 1,102 in his time at UE- Since the beginning of last season, Cox has been one of the top free throw shooters in the league as he has hit 96 out of 112 attempts, including 51 out of 61 this season- Cox has done an excellent job of taking care of the ball while fi nding his teammates for open baskets; Cox has tallied 101 assists against 41 turnovers, good for an assist/turnover ratio 2.5 (2nd overall in the MVC); in league play, his ratio of 3.4 was tops amongst all league players

Team of the Week- Following a 3-game win streak with victories over Illinois State, a BracketBusters victory at Wright State and an impressive road win at Wichita will make national news and EPSN honored the Aces as the “Team of the Week” in Myron Medcalf’s Mid-Major Report on Feb. 28- The fi nale win over Indiana State marked the 18th win of the season for UE, the most in Coach Simmons tenure at UE, surpassing the 17-14 mark in 2008-09

Getting Better By The Day- Through the fi rst 19 games of the season, Egidijus Mockevicius played 20 minutes or more on just four occasions, since the home game versus Bradley, he has gotten his chance to play more minutes and has responded in a big way - Mockevicius has seen 20 minutes of action or more in 9 of those 15 games while playing 36 minutes on two occasions; after posting 16.6 minutes and 3.7 rebounds through the fi rst 19 games of the seasons, the frosh has played 20.4 minutes while hauling in 6.5 rebounds per game in the 14 games since- The No. 2 shot blocker in the MVC (and No. 1 in league play) posted a career-high of six in homes games against UNI and Drake; his total of 58 on the season is the most since Sascha Hupmann had 74 blocks in the 1991-92 season, Hupmann’s mark came six months prior to Mockevicius being born in September of 1992- His top off ensive outing of the year came against Missouri State where he fi nished with a game-high 18 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting eff ort; he also connected on six of his nine free throw attempts- Mockevicius is the top shot-blocking freshman in the Valley

Dishing It Out- Evansville is one of the most unselfi sh teams out there; led by Colt Ryan’s 4.1 assists, the Aces rank 14th in the nation, averaging 15.9 per game- For the season, UE has assists on 64% of its fi eld goals, 11th in the country- Colt Ryan has also averaged 4.0 assists per game and ranks 4th in the league with his total; he is the only player in the MVC to rank in the top six for points (2nd), assists and steals (6th)

Evansville Stat Rankings (as of 3/18/13)It ’s Tough On The Road- Since the beginning of the 1999-2000 season, the Purple Aces are 24-102 in MVC road games; in their fi rst fi ve years in the league, UE was 21-24 in road games, making for a grand total of 45-126 in Valley games away from home since the 1994-95 campaign- Evansville has had just one season over .500 away from home in league play and has not won more than three league road games since the 1998-99 season- This season, two big diff erence come in turnover margin and rebounding; in home league games, UE was +2.0 on the boards while forcing 4.8 more turnovers; that was a diff erent story on the road as they were outrebounded by 4.7 per game while the turnover margin was a bit lower at +1.2

MVC Wins vs. Losses-Defense has been the key for UE when pitting its wins versus its losses in MVC play this season- through ten victories, UE’s defense has allowed opponents to shoot 42.3% overall and 32.7% from 3-point range; in the eight league losses, the opposition has shot 47.8%, including a 43.1% from long range- UE’s shooting from outside is also a determining factor as its wins have seen 38.6% of its treys go in while the losses have seen UE shoot 32.8% beyond the arc

Looking For Another Weapon- Seniors Colt Ryan and Ned Cox have established themselves as the top two scoring threats for UE, especially over the last 17 games- Since the game at Drake, the duo has accounted for 49.1% of Evansville’s off ense, registering 571 out of 1164 points- In other facets over that span, they have scored 61 out of UE’s 99 three-pointers and 149 of the 216 made free throws for the Aces- They have also combined to record 26 out of Evansville’s 41 double-digit eff orts since January 16

Strong At The Line- Evansville has hit 70% of its attempts or more in 14 out of 18 league games, including seven eff orts over 80% - Those performances from the line have been pivotal all season, especially late in games as Evansville has won 16 out of 17 games when it has been ahead with fi ve minutes remaining - UE has also outperformed its opponents in MVC games as the opposition has hit 70.8% of its free throws while Evansville has hit 76.6% of its attempts- Following a 6-12 performance at Colorado State, the Aces team percentage stood at 66.3%, however, since then, Evansville has hit 385 out of 512 attempts, 75.2%- Last season, UE was one of the top free throw shooting teams in the land, hitting 76.4% of its attempts

Call Him “Triple T”- Troy Taylor has the ability to aff ect the game on all ends of the fl oor as he leads UE in rebounding while ranking second in assists and steals- The point guard has averaged 7.5 rebounds in the Valley outings, fourth in the league tally; he led the Aces in rebounding in 11 out of 18 league games this season and while hauling in at least fi ve in all but two contests, in UE’s Arch Madness outing, Taylor led all players with 10 caroms- Aside from his performance on the boards, Taylor has started to crank it up off ensively, posting double-digit outings nine times overall this season, he began the season with just 8 double fi gure outings in his UE career- A perfect 7-for-7 performance vs. EKU gave Taylor a career-best 16 points; he came close to his second triple-double, tallying 7 rebounds and 7 assists- While it is hard to go up from having a triple-double, Troy Taylor gave it his best shot on January 5 versus Missouri State as he fi nished with 19 boards; it marked the fi rst time a UE player grabbed 15 or more since Nate Garner did so vs. Western Kentucky on 12/13/08- Taylor recorded 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists on his way to just the second triple-double in UE history versus Creighton; it marked the 36th triple-double in MVC history and the second in as many seasons as Jake Odum of Indiana State had one a year ago- The only other time it happened in program history was when Reed Jackson did so vs. New Hampshire on Jan. 3, 1995; he fi nished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists- He led the way for Evansville with 10 boards against Indiana State; over the last two years, he has led UE in rebounding on 31 occasions, more than anyone else

Aces vs. Ranked OpponentsTaking A New Role- One of the unsung heroes of the Aces’ recent streak has been Lewis Jones- In the nine games prior to coming off of the bench, Jones shot just 35% (21-60), but in the seven games since, he has hit an accurate 45.9% of his shots as 17 out of his 37 fi eld goals have been good- At Wright State, Jones had one of his best games in recent weeks as he shot an effi cient 5-of-7 to register 10 points and four rebounds- UE’s performance from the line has gotten better as the season has gone along and Jones has been a large part of that; through the fi rst nine games, Jones was just 10-of-23 on his free throw attempts, but he has turned that around, hitting 38 of his last 53 attempts- In the CIT win over Eastern Kentucky, Jones set a career mark, pulling in nine rebounds

Near The Top- Evansville ranks near the top of the nation in several statistical categories thanks to its unselfi sh play- With an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.434, UE is 8th in the nation; UE also turns the ball over an average of just 11.1 times per game, which ranks them 32nd overall- Taking care of the ball has been one of the strengths for the Aces, they have turned the ball over on just 16.4% of their possessions; the national average for that statistic is 19.3%- As a team, the Aces average just 11.1 turnovers per contest; that is 2.0 below the national average of 13.1

Overtime Success- Overtime has been kind to the Aces this season as they are a perfect 3-0 in the extra period this year- UE overcame a late 7-point defi cit to send the home game vs. UNI to the extra period; Ned Cox hit the game-tying three with 30 seconds left in regulation; against Drake, it was Colt Ryan whose late trey sent the game into the extra session- The 54 points scored in the OT win were the least UE has posted in an overtime triumph since defeating Eastern Kentucky by a 47-44 fi nal in the 1945-46 campaign

Success Continues Against Ranked Squads- For the fi rst time in program history, Evansville has defeated a ranked opponent four seasons in a row- Coach Simmons has led UE 4-6 mark in the last 10 games versus a ranked team; that is the top 10-game stretch in program history- The Aces have won three home games against ranked teams, dating back to the win over UNI in 2011; Simmons is 3-2 in home contests vs. ranked teams

Moore A Force Down Low- Jaylon Moore has enjoyed playing against the Alabama schools this year, notching ten points in games against Alabama A&M and Alabama State- Through 34 games in 2012, Moore has scored 119 points; he registered 30 all of last season

Telling Numbers- Rebounding has been a telling stat when looking at the win/loss results for UE; when the Aces win or tie in rebounding, they are 14-4, when they are on the losing end of that stat, they are just 6-10- In its wins, the Aces hold a +3.2 edge on the boards, however, in the losses, the opposition is outrebounding UE by 5.1 per game- Shooting has also aff ected the outcome; Evansville holds a .472-.420 shooting edge in its wins while the losses have seen opponents outshoot UE by a .474-.398 margin- Evansville has won 11 opening tips this season, going 9-2 when gaining the fi rst possession- The status of the game with fi ve minutes remaining also has had a direct impact on the fi nal results; the Aces are 16-1 when holding a lead at the 35-minute mark, but have come back from a defi cit at that point just three times, going 3-13 when trailing with fi ve minutes remaining; UE and Wichita State were tied in the 1/13 matchup as UE pulled out the win in Evansville- Since the beginning of the 2011-12 campaign, UE has had 17 games where four or more players have reached double fi gures in scoring; the Aces were 9-2 when doing that last season and are 5-2 thus far in 2012-13

Simmons led the Knights to a 20-5 record in 2011-12 along with its second Class 4A semistate appearance. He was named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association All-State First Team a season ago.

Previous NotesFour-Game Win Streak- With its four-game win streak to end the regular season, Evansville fi nished with its fi rst 18-win season under Coach Simmons and its fi rst since going 18-12 in the 1999-00 season- The last time UE fi nished the regular season on such a streak was in the 1992-93 campaign when the Aces reeled off wins against Dayton, Butler, Detroit Mercy and Loyola- They rode the momentum to three more wins in the MCC Tournament on their way to a berth in the NCAA’s where they faced Florida State

10 Wins In The Valley- For just the fourth time since entering the league, Evansville won 10 league games- The Aces were 11-7 in 1994-95 and 1996-97 while going 13-5 to win the regular season championship in 1998-99- The championship season was the last time prior to 2013 that UE won ten league contests

Win In Wichita- Evansville ended a few streaks with a 59-56 triumph in Wichita on Feb. 27- It marked the fi rst win for the Aces at Koch Arena since Feb. 6, 2001 when they picked up another 3-point win, taking down the Shockers by a fi nal of 77-74- That season also marked the last time Evansville swept the season series from Wichita State

Teaming Up On The Boards- Egidijus Mockevicius and Troy Taylor combined to grab 25 rebounds in the win over UNI; Mockevicius set his career mark with 13 boards (8 on the off ensive end) while Taylor recorded 12- It marked the fi rst time two Aces have recorded 10 or more rebounds in the same game since Taylor and James Haarsma each fi nished with 12 in a 76-46 win over SIU Edwardsville on Nov. 18, 2009; in the 2008-09 campaign, UE had three games in which teammates hauled in ten boards apiece

Senior Achievement- In the 1/5 victory over Southern Illinois, all four senior starters (Ned Cox, Lewis Jones, Colt Ryan and Troy Taylor) scored in double fi gures; it marked the fi rst time in their careers that each fi nished a game with 10 or more tallies

Winging It- Relentless eff ort in practice resulted in freshman Adam Wing seeing a career-high 17 minutes of action against Miami- That eff ort paid off as the Morehead, Ky. product his 4-of-5 shots while fi nishing with a career-best 9 points to go along with 5 rebounds and a blocked shot- In the contest at Creighton, Wing hit 3-of-4 shots to fi nish with six points in 14 minutes of play

Sawvell Back In Form- Prior to the game at Creighton, sophomore Ryan Sawvell rode the top scoring streak of his career as he has notched a total of 37 points in the three games before the trip to Omaha- The Mundelein, Ill. product has used an effi cient scoring touch over that three-game span, (16-of-21) to hit 76.2% of his attempts; he has also averaged 6 rebounds- Over a stretch of six games prior to facing Alabama State, Sawvell tallied a total of ten points prior to his recent streak- That streak was the second time in his career that he notched 10+ points in three consecutive contests

Hitting The Century Mark- Tuesday’s 103-69 win over Oakland City marked the fi rst time the Aces have hit the 100-point plateau since a Nov. 19 game versus Central Michigan in 2004- The game marked the 103rd time in program history that UE eclipsed that mark and just the third time since the season opener of the 1995-96 season- That total marked the top scoring output since Marty Simmons became head coach and was a Ford Center record

Two In A Row- Fans have been treated to some great games at the Ford Center as UE topped Alabama A&M by a 72-46 fi nal before grabbing a 94-68 win over Miami in early December- Back-to-back wins by 25 points or more at home have been hard to come by; the last time UE did so was in 2009-10 with wins over Oakland City and SIU Edwardsville to begin the year; the last time the Aces won by that margin over two Division I opponents came in the 1999-00 season as UE took down Morehead State, 78-48, before downing Charleston Southern in its next home contests by a score of 96-67- Evansville posted 94 points in the win over Miami; the last time the Aces put up that many points at home was in the 2004-05 season opener as UE topped Central Michigan by a 100-85 fi nal

Evansville’s Record When.... Presence Down Low - Ryan Sawvell posted another solid eff ort as he grabbed a game-high 8 rebounds at TTU; it was the second time he led the Aces in rebounding this season- Sawvell had a blue collar eff ort at Notre Dame, especially on the defensive end. In what UND center Jack Cooley called “a Big East game”, Sawvell limited Cooley to just seven shots on the day. He got the job done on both ends of the fl oor, tallying 11 boards and ten points. - Sawvell registered the third double fi gure rebounds eff ort of his career and the second double-double. His fi rst double-double came at Bradley last season when he notched 12 points and 16 rebounds; he posted another 10-point performance to lead UE to a 66-56 win over Yale

Boarding It Up- Through the fi rst four games of the 2012-13 campaign, UE found itself being outrebounded by an average of 10 per game; that all changed in the wins over Tennessee Tech and Alabama A&M as the Aces were on the better end of the fi nal tally, fi nishing with an average of 8 more rebounds than the opposition- Last season, Evansville had just one two-game streak of outrebounding its opponents, doing so against Bradley and Illinois State

Defensive Streak - Evansville’s defense turned it up in a November 3-game win streak, holding WIU, TTU and AAMU to just 46.7 PPG while holding WIU and TTU to under 20 points in a half (AAMU had 21 in the fi rst half ); large runs have been key in those contests; in the win over WIU, the Aces held the Leathernecks scoreless over a span of 8:28 in the second half, forcing them to miss all fi ve shots along with eight turnovers; a similar run in the fi rst half at Tennessee Tech saw UE go on a 20-2 run while holding the Golden Eagles to 1-11 shooting over that span; the defense was at it again versus the Bulldogs, in the fi rst half, the Aces went on a 22-3 run while holding AAMU without a fi eld goal over the span of 8:55- UE has held those three opponents to 50 or fewer points; by comparison, Evansville held just one team to under 50 last season as Western Illinois mustered up 45 points in a Feb. 18 meeting; this year the Leathernecks scored just 44 points versus UE, the fewest point an opponent has scored since Oakland City had 42 in the 2010-11 season opener- The last time the Aces held three opponents in a row under 50 points as UE held Cleveland State, Buff alo and SEMO to 49, 44 and 45 points, respectively, early in the 2006-07 season.

Coaches vs. Cancer Classic - Evansville is proud to be associated with the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic for the fi rst time. The tournament began in 1995 and 1996 in a showcase format before becoming a tournament in 1997 with Princeton winning the inaugural event. Since its inception, Coaches vs. Cancer has raised almost $85 million to support the fi ght against cancer. The fi rst four games of this season were a part of the tournament as UE fell at Notre Dame before winning two out of three contests at the Ford Center. Evansville fell to Buff alo before rallying to defeat Yale and Western Illinois.- WIU failed to hit a three-pointer in the Nov. 17 contest, the fi rst time UE had not allowed a trey since Bradley failed to hit one against UE on Feb. 17, 1999- After suff ering a hip pointer in the loss to Buff alo, Colt Ryan saw just ten minutes of action in the three-game tournament at the Ford Center; despite the loss, Evansville rallied to pick up victories over Yale and Western Illinois

Preseason Poll - For the second-straight year, the University of Evansville was picked to fi nish fi fth in the Valley. Last season, UE surpassed the pick, taking the third seed for the 2012 MVC Tournament and the Aces seem poised to repeat that feat this year as they return four seniors who will be the core of UE’s squad.

Looking Towards The Future- It was recently announced that freshman David Howard will redshirt this season. That will give him the opportunity to work ahead and learn UE’s system entering next season with a great chance of making an immediate impact.

Season Openers- Evansville opened its 94th season of basketball against Notre Dame. The Aces fell to 62-32 all-time in their season-opening contests with the loss, ending a streak of four season-opening wins in a row.

    *NCAA Championship Season

Home Court AdvantagePreseason NotesA Lot To Look Forward To - Fresh off of its best MVC eff ort in 13 years, the Aces have plenty to be excited about heading into the 2012-13 season. Evansville is set to return three starters and 11 letterwinners, which comprise 69.3% of its scoring, 77.9% of its rebounding, 68.4% of the squad’s assists and over 70% of the team’s minutes from 2011-12. The Aces used an overtime win in the regular season fi nale over Missouri State to move from the possibility of being as low as eighth in the league to a fi nal fi nish of third.

Big Shoes To Fill - Two slots in the starting lineup are available following the graduation of Denver Holmes and Kenneth Harris. Holmes started 89 games in his UE career before fi nishing with 975 points. The Olathe Kan. native was the top free throw shooter in the Valley last season, hitting 87.3% of his attempts. In two seasons with the Aces, Harris made 63 starts, including all 32 as a senior. He posted 617 points in his time at UE while recording 327 rebounds. Looking to fi ll those slots will be seniors Ned Cox and Lewis Jones, who each played in all 32 games in their junior years.

A Home Of Their Own - With the hectic schedule at the downtown Ford Center, the Aces were forced to move their practices on campus to the Carson Center. With the schedules of other UE sports along with the university as a whole, the time that the Aces had on the practice fl oor got to be limited at times. That all will change in October with the opening of the Fifth Third Basketball Practice Facility. Built at a cost of over $3 million, the structure will have fl oors for both the UE men’s and women’s teams along with new offi ces and a lounge for both squads.

2011-12 Season-In-Review NotesPlaying Against The Best - The Missouri Valley Conference proved that it is one of the best in the country as it sent seven out of ten teams to postseason play in 2012. Evansville was one of those squads, advancing to its second consecutive CBI. The Aces played 32 games in 2011-12 with 21 of those against postseason teams. Thirteen of its opponents also advanced to the postseason. In all, seven of UE’s games came against teams that made it to the NCAA Tournament.

Just The Second Time - In the 2012 Missouri Valley Tournament, the Aces went in as the No. 3 seed, the second-highest ever while advancing to Saturday’s semifi nals for just the second time. It was a stark turnaround for a team that entered the tournament with just a 4-17 mark in its previous 17 tries. Evansville began with a 72-64 victory over Missouri State, earning the season sweep of the Bears. The win marked Evansville’s fi fth Arch Madness victory. With the three-game sweep of Missouri State, the Aces completed their second ever three-game sweep, the other came in 1999 when UE was a perfect 3-0 over Wichita State.

We’re Back - For the third time in four years and the tenth time since entering Division I in 1977, the University of Evansville played in the postseason. In 2009, only Coach Simmons’ second season, he led the Aces to the CIT where they squared off against Belmont. Last year, UE picked up its fi rst postseason win since the 1989 NCAA Tournament win over Oregon State in the opening round win over Hofstra. It has been almost 20 years since UE accomplished the feat as Jim Crews led UE to three-straight postseason berths, including two NCAA tournaments, from 1992-94.

Coaching Them Up - Since his arrival at UE in 2007, head coach Marty Simmons has steadily turned the program around. In three of the last four years, Simmons has fi nished in the top six in the league after the program had done so just once in the eight seasons before 2009.
