Day 1:Being Dashingly Different and Weirdly Wonderful.

Everything is done for a reason. I have chosen the challenge the conventions of the usual music magazine and go wild on the competitions that you or any other read has no chance of winning. If the magazine was displayed on a shelf you would only be able to see some of the title, possibly all of the slogan and the text of what you can win. This is because it’s a new magazine. If every magazine talked about Katie Price and enlargements it’s more likely that you will pick the cheaper or most know magazine as it’s more likely to have a trusted source. If my magazine is to be commenting on the same thing as everyone else it will need to be situated in a way that has something extra that draws your attention to it. Unlike Zoo, Cleverly integrating the Image with the title I decided to go for the change to win stuff. Hopefully by having items that you desire or consider you have a chance of winning

availed this will help sell the magazine over the rest thus putting BOLD on the Magazine Shelf Map. Magazine conventions that I have used are the with the title being all the way a crossed the top. This is challenges conventions however by it being on a slant. This makes the magazine give off a more childishly-friendly feel. By having it on a slant it also makes the palm trees stand out a little bit more. By having the title on a slant it also helps the artist name stand out. As the title is in Black the Contract of the Artist being White is another factor that helps it stand out.My images have an orange overlay to help them fit with the magazine. This is a huge convention challenged because there is now only one un effected image of the person I am interviewing, and that is on the front cover. It is essential to have the one clear image but most magazines will have 4-6 images of the artist and at least half if not all will be without effect.

Day 2:Joining Facebook Social Groups….

My media product represents different social groups through the 4 factors that I have enlisted as the magazines Goals/ Aims; these are Watch, Listen, Acquire, and Style. I wanted to touch on all these different aims within my contents and front cover as there was going to be little I could do to help me when it came to the interview/article. On the cover I have added the chance to win Specks. This is a way to acquire and style music to you life. Also in the contents I have included a review on the iPad entitled What Went Wrong, as well as the top 50 fashion accessories. This would hopefully reach the people that like fashion as well as techno-geeks. I have my model styled in a casual Jumper on the front cover. This will hopefully target the people that are more into Music/celeb interest as it shows she’s on the rise to fame. Its does this by people that are in to the high fashion will know that what she is wearing is not that pricy therefore it’s probably not a designer label. By having her in a more relaxed photo shoot, the image begins to look more personal. Rather than going through hours of make up etc. I have decided to show her natural beauty by only lightly touching on the makeup. Also most Pop artists have glossy/ bright photos. I have taking most of the photos in natural light but have tried to use the ones that give a glossy effect. By having my model styled like a Pop Star and having an R&B Sun theme through out I have covered the 2 main music styles that have come out of my first surveys.

Day 3:Over the hill and far away to the land of Distri-bution 6.

Upon doing Research about my magazine I found that my magazine is not like any other magazine in the UK. So I would say that UK wise it may be either lucky and have a few top companies trying to distribute it or as there are no current magazines being published buy UK groups their may be no current interest as it could be seen as an unsuccessful type of magazine and not giving a chance. However this does not mean that there are no magazines like this in the UK , there are a few that are in the UK but they are by US publishers. These such as InterMediaParters LP may which to publish the magazine but it might be seen as a too much of similarity with their own R&B/pop magazine VIBE

Day 4:Errrr…. Who are you???.

For my music magazine I have tried to aim it at 12-21 as this is the age where people may be going through a lot of mobile phone changes due to peer pressure as well as competition between peers. There fore people may want to read the magazine to find out if the phone that their mate has can actually do all it says it can and if its actually any good at all.Another reason why they may want to read the magazine is the Music side. I have tried to cover R&b/Pop these are the 2 main genres that tend to do well in the Charts. If there is someone that likes to keep a close eye on chats as well as the gossip behind the chats/artists/songs then this magazine would help them discover it. I also wanted to show the target audience the high fashion that the celebs are wearing. This would help them come to the overall conclusions about fashion s well as what looks good and why people are critising/complimenting them about this particular look. It may also help people when it comes to their own fashion and the things that they need to do.

Day 5:Wow that looks nice.

For feed back on my magazine I have asked people to comment on my blog as well as answer a survey. This all has helped me discover what audience research I have liked the most. As a conclusion/summary I presented this in the style of a comic strip with the overall/most reoccurring answers being the ones mentioned. People said that the way I used the orange overlay was effective despite me thinking that this effect made the magazine lack in un-effected images. There were a few comments saying that they would have liked to of seen more of the girl.

Day 6:Technologies.

I have learnt a lot of different effects and styles/ conventions that a magazine must follow. Upon being told the task I thought that I was doomed. When I first wrote my article and finished my contents they did not look really that much like a magazine. Even thought it was only a small factor that needed to be changed ie Text size form 12-8 it made a significant difference in how much more like a magazine it looked. Also by having the cover less complicated and short and snappy; it had the same effect as the article. When it comes to Photoshop I already have it at home and there was little that I actually learnt but what I did learn was the different ways an image can be affected using/in Photoshop. I liked what I done to the first image on the DPS but upon trying to recreate this effected dint work. If I could re do this effect on some of the other images it may of helped with the house style. Despite this, most people said that they liked my house style as well as the orange theme through out.

Day 7:Progression

I feel that I have learnt a lot form going form the College magazine to the Music magazine. There are some elements that I like more in the College Magazine yet I can now see why the college magazine would not of been successful enough to make it big on the shelf’s. The house style was one of the major issues that I had with the college magazine and I tried to focus on this the most this time round. During the beginning production of the music magazine it was all that I focused on and this helped choosing the colours, fonts, sizes, model, etc. I think that If I would of done it this way round for the college magazine it may have been more successful.
