• The hobby school was established in autumn 1989.• The hobby school started with a music and an art

department, in 1990 a dance department was added.

• The hobby school is situated in the same building as Kadrina Secondary School.

• All of the students of the School of Fine Arts are also students of Kadrina Secondary School and therefore many common activities are held, the collaboration between the two schools has enriched both schools.

Population of Kadrina commune (01.01.2009)  The number of population: 5 386. The density of population: 16,2 persons per

km². 2 418 inhabitants live in the small town of

Kadrina and 2968 inhabitants live in the rural area.

musical and art hobby education and prepares students for professional music and art education;

• Learning at the hobby school takes place during the time when the student is free from study at other educational establishments.

• The lessons begin at about 12.40 and finish at 19.15

• The children who attend pre-school classes of the music department and go to kindergarten come to school with their parents and sometimes go back to kindergarten or home after the music lesson.

The school has partnership schools in Helsinki, Mikkeli, Hämeenlinna and Turenki in Finland, Mora in Sweden, Trøgstad in Norway. 

Our students have introduced Estonian folk art in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal (Figuera De Fos), Italy (Messina/Sicily) and Hungary.

The students of our school have participated in all of seven international culture festivals since 1997 in Kadrina (1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009), with the main emphasis on folk music, choir music or classical music.

• There are 300 licensed hobby schools in Estonia

• 160 municipal and • 140 private hobby schools  • and approximately 49,000 pupils study in them, about • 13,000 of them in music and art schools• 19,000 in sports schools • 17,000 in other schools.

 84 music schools and schools of fine arts are members of the Association of the Music Schools of Estonia
