Miles of Corridors and Acres of Walls Are Being

Scrubbed. Dust of the 75th Congress is being

swept into oblivion. It’s house-cleaning time again at the Capitol.

A small army of charwomen and workmen of various sorts has moved in on the vacated halls of Congress, intent on removing every spot and blemish left by the Nation’s law- makers on their adjournment some

weeks ago.

Literally scores ol brooms, hand- brushes, washcloths and mops have been put to work on gilt, mosaics, crystal, draperies and other interior decorations and furnishings of the great domed building, so, that every- thing will be spic and span for the next session of Congress—special or

regular. Miles of corridors are being

scrubbed and virtually acres of walls are being cleaned by the mop and broom wielders. One of the more difficult phases of the work is the washing of crystal ornaments on huge chandeliers. The crystal pendants are being removed for the cleaning

•egular Capitol staff has been au ted by approximately 35 men and women for the undertaking, which is being done under supervision of Gus Cbok, supervising engineer of the Capitol. David Lynn, architect of the Capitol, is in general charge of the renovation.

When the cleaning work is com-

pleted a corps of painters and deco- rators will take over the Job.

The whole task will be done within the next several weeks, it is esti- mated.
