    "Reinvigorating the Indian Mining Sector"

The CII McKinsey & Company study report on

Reinvigorating the Indian Mining Sector was unveiled

    by Shri Partha Chatterjee, Minister-In-Charge,

Commerce & Industry, IT, PE & IR and Parliamentary

Affairs, Government of West Bengal on the inaugural

day, of the 11th IMME and Global Mining Summit

The study states that the Indian mining industry is

expected to continue growing substantially due to rising

demand. Properly tapped, by 2020 the industry can

help propel growth for the country. However both the

Indian government and the mining industry must work

together to capture this potential by ensuring the robust

    growth of India's mining sector.

The report also indicates if the potential is tapped fully,

the metals and mining sector can contribute USD 150

billion per annum to India's GDP by 2020. It also has

the potential to generate employment for additional 2.3million people (direct and indirect) by 2020 and

contribute USD 40 bil lion to the government revenues.

Parliamentary Affairs, Government of West Bengal

I am delighted that the United States is the Partner Country for the 11th InternationalMining and Machinery Exhibition (IMME), the largest trade fair dedicated to the miningindustry in India. Twenty U.S. exhibitors are participating in IMME this year- both throughpavilion space and catalog exhibit. Eight of the exhibitors are new-to-market. U.S.exhibitors have high expectations for success from this event, and based on prior experience, this exhibition will be a big boost to their efforts to participate in the Indian mining sectormarket. Earlier this year, the U.S. Commercial Service Kolkata led a group of seventy Indiandelegates to the MINExpo Show in Las Vegas. The overwhelming part icipation from bothprivate and public sector mining companies in the delegation is a testimony to India'semergence as world's leading player in the mining industry. I am certain the IMME willcontinue to provide a robust platform for international exhibitors and Indian buyers toknow each other. I wish the event every success.

Dean R. ThompsonU. S. Consul General in Kolkala

IMME 2012 is very apt and timely for the country, particularly for the Eastern Region wheremost of the mining and related activities are done. This is the region where most of the coalavailable in the country is found. So are various stakeholders, producers, contractors andusers. Manufacturers from across the world take part in IMME even though what we see ondisplay here is only a limited version of their products. But in term of magnitude, quality andopportunities, the importance of IMME is enormous. I am sure with such exercise, the

mining sector in India wil l blossom and contribute more to the GDP.
