EVENT REPORTS
The annual cultural festival of MVJ College of Engineering,‘SWAYAM’ arrived, once again, to a
lot of fanfare and enthusiasm! At this annual razzmatazz, organized this year on 12th and 13th
April 2019for students of various Engineering disciplinesfrom various colleges, the excitement
was palpable! Students gathered from far and near, to take part and showcase their talents.
Day 1 of Swayam
VOICE OF SWAYAM-WESTERN
This event took place on the first day of Swayam (12thApril, 2019) and is also one of the first
events to begin that day. The registration fee was set at Rs. 100 per participant. The time given
for each participant was 3+1 minutes. The event took place at the lawn. The winner would take
home Rs. 3000 and the Runner Up,Rs. 2000. The StudentCoordinators for the event were
Soniya Sharan, MonishaMuralidharan M and Anand Moolya. The FacultyCoordinator was
Ms.Surabhi. The Judges for the event were AvishekMridha and DipanjanMridha. The judges
are certified Music instructors, for corporates. AvishekMridha is a vocalist who sings classical
and western styles of music. He is also an accomplished guitarist. DipanjanMridha is a multi-
instrumentalist who plays across various genres of music, but is specially known for his skills
with the piano.
The judges set the following criteria, to assess the performance by the participants:

There were14 participants, competing for the accolades. The Emcees of the event were
Monisha Muralidharan M and Rijo Joseph. The event started off with a performance by
Michelle Hoover. Karaoke was allowed, as the participants performed. Some of the noteworthy
performances applauded by the audience included those by Kulsum Javeed, Rhema Johnson,
Dhanush K, Smaran, Michelle Hoover, Mohammad Hanan, and Joan. The judges took their time
to compare the performances and come to a conclusion. All participants were given feedback
and tips to improve their performance. The results were in favour of Mohammad Hanan and
Kulsum Javeed, the Winner and RunnerUp, respectively. The event came to a close at around
1:30 pm. Participation certificates were given to all the participants. The prize distribution for
the event took place on the second day of Swayam, at the auditorium.
STREET PLAY

Venue: Lonely Tree Arena
As part of Swayam, MVJ College of Engineering organized an event ‘STREET PLAY’ on
12th April,in the LonelyTree Arena.
In this event, the students had to enact, based on a theme or a scene of their choice, to
showcase their acting skills.4 groups participated in the event.The teams were judged based on
their topic selection., expression, innovation, acting, costume, screenplay and impact on the
audience.The teams enacted themes which includedissues that concern society. The judge
addressed the gathering and gave the participants tips for improvement.
The event ended with declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates
and cash prizes to winners.
Cash prizes of Rs.6000 and Rs.3000 were given to the 1stand 2nd winners, respectively.
We thank the Organizing Committee, Faculty and Student Coordinators for the grand success of
the event.

MVJ College of Engineering organized a National Level Cultural Fest “SWAYAM” on 12TH
and13ndApril, 2019 for students of various Engineering discipline and various colleges to take
part and showcase their talents. As a part of SWAYAM, MVJ College of Engineering, Electronics
And Communication Department, organized an event “BEATBOXING” on 12th April, 2019 in
Lawn.
The event started at 4.00pm on 12th April with student registrations. Total 8 participants
from MVJCE and other college had participated in the event. The event had two rounds, in the
first round the participants must give individual performance, in the second round the
participants had a face off performance were the performers has to face the opponent and do
their best. The marks were given by considering 4 criteria performance, technique, creativity
and clarity.
The event ended with declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates and cash
prize to winners.

SOLO WESTERN DANCE
As a part of Swayam, the Aeronautical Department of MVJ College of Engineering
organized an event Solo Western Dance, on 12thApril, 2019, at Dr. M V Jayaraman Auditorium.
The event started at 10.30am, with student registrations. 14 participants from MVJCE
and other colleges participated in the event. The event had two rounds; in the first round, the
participants had to perform for a song of their choice; and in the second round, the participants
had a phaseoff performance, where the performers had to face each other on the song played.
Scores were given based on five criteria - performance, technique, presentation, creativity and
choreography.
The event ended with the declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates and
cash prizes to winners.

As a part of Swayam, MVJ College of Engineering, Information Science Department,
organized an event ‘Group Dance’ on 12th April, 2019, in the MVJCE Auditorium.
The event started with student registrations. There were 8 teams, which included
around60 participants from MVJCE and other colleges. Two filler performanceswere also there,
by our college students. The event consisted of only one round. The scores were given,
considering five criteria - style and technique, choreography, creativity, presentation and
overall performance.
The event ended with declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates and cash
prizes to winners.

MVJ College of Engineering organized a National Level Cultural Fest “SWAYAM” on 12TH
and 13nd April, 2019 for students of various Engineering discipline and various colleges to take
part and showcase their talents. As a part of SWAYAM, MVJ College of Engineering,
Aeronautical Engineering Department along with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII)
and Young Indians(YI), organized an event “DEBATE ON GANDHIAN PRINCIPLES” on 12th April,
2019 at the Rajalakshmi Seminar Hall.
The event started at 10:30am on 12th April with student registrations. Total 3 groups
from MVJCE and other college had participated in the event. The teams had to have a
mandatory of two members only. The event had one round, in which the participants had to
speak For or Against the topic “Are Gandhian principles still relevant to the present day Society
or Not?” within the given duration of time along with a rebuttal questions round. The marks
were given by considering 7 criteria Organisation and Clarity, Support Material, Use if cross-
examination and Rebuttal, Presentation Style, Confidence, Correctness and Appropriateness.
The event ended with declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates and cash
prize to winners.

MVJ College of Engineering organized a National Level Cultural Fest “SWAYAM” on 12th
and 13nd April, 2019 for students of various Engineering discipline and various colleges to take
part and to showcase their talents. As a part of SWAYAM, MVJ College of Engineering,
Mathematics Department, organized an event “FUTSAL” on 12th April, 2019 at MVJCE Ground.
Total of 18 teams from MVJCE and other college had participated in the event and the
event was conducted in a Knock-out basis. The event of the “FUTSAL” took place in a very
obliged manner with all the students of MVJCE and other college, showing their keen interest in
participating in the game with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit. The game was conducted
for 07 minutes a half, then 2 minutes of break and 07 minutes of second half. The winners of
the game were decided based on the number of goals scored by the individual team, if the
scores are equal then the winners are decided based on the penalty shoots.
Since the team registration was more than we expected, the event started on 11th April
2019, Thursday and we completed the day with 04 teams qualifying for the semi finals. On the
next day 12th April 2019 Swayam day around 11:00 am, we conducted Semi final matches and
the final match was conducted at 12:30 pm in the afternoon in the presence of the faculty
coordinator, faculties and students. The event ended with declaration of winners and runners,
distribution of participation certificates and cash prize to winners.

FILM IT
The event FILM IT was organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, on 12th
April 2019, at the Auditorium, from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm, as a part of Swayam’19, a cultural fest
of MVJCE, Bangalore. The purpose of thisevent ‘Film It’ was to provide a platform for students
to exhibit their creativity and innovative skills in the field of movie making.
The participants were judged based on their potential in Editing, Cinematography,
Script, Acting, Sound effects, Overall impact and Relevance ofthe theme. Mr. Nataraj Bhat, lead
actor in Kannada movies like Rama Rama Re, KalbettadaDarodekoraru, was the judge for the
event. The First place was secured by Daniel Kiran and Team, MVJCE. Second place was
bagged by Bhavana and Team of MVJCE.The prize money for the First place was Rs. 6000/-,and
for the Second place Rs. 3000/-.

MONOACT
Date: 12th April, 2019

Venue: Lobby and Lonely Tree Arena
The event ‘Monoact’was held in the Lonely Tree Arena. Students had to enact a role or
a scene of their choice, to showcase their acting skills.The event startedwith student
registrations.37 participants, which included 30 participants from MVJCE and 1 participant from
another college,participated in the event.
The 1st round started at 10:30, where the acting skills of 37 students were judged, based
on their topic selection, expression, dialogues, impact on the audience and voice modulation.
Each student was given 3 minutes to present his/her act.At the end of the 1st round, 9
participants qualified for the 2nd round.
The secondround was also held in the Lonely Tree Arena. 1 minute for preparation and 3
minutes for acting out, were given to each participant. Participants had to pick a topic, prepare
for a minute, and enact the same. The judge for the event Mr.Srivardhan, a videographer and
short movie director, shared his views regarding the event and appreciated all the participants.
The event ended with declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates
and cash prizes to the winners.

This event was a grand platform for the students to showcase their talent and acting skills. We

Battle Grounds
The event PUBGwas held on 12th and 13th April 2019,at MVJ College of Engineering. ‘PLAYER
UNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS’ (PUBG) is a competitive survival shooter formally
developed/published by Bluehole. PUBG is now being developed by PUBG Corp., a Bluehole
SWAYAM 2019

subsidiary company, in cooperation with Brendan Greene (PLAYERUNKNOWN) as the Creative
Director. PUBG is Greene's first standalone game. In the game, up to 100 players parachute
onto an island, and scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill others, while avoiding getting
killed themselves. The available safe area of the game's map decreases in size, over time,
directing surviving players into tighter areas to force encounters. The last player or team
standing wins the game.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted this two-day PUBG Event, in SWAYAM
2K19.
Day One:
36 teams registered for this event. Two seminar halls, namely 5 and 6,were utilized for this
event. Two groups were created. Each group consisted of 18 teams. 3 rounds were conducted
for each group, and the top 7 teams in each group wereshortlisted,by considering their position
and killing points at the end of each round. The duration for each round was 1 hour. Six rounds
were conducted, cumulatively.
Day Two:
The Top 7 teams in each group which were selected in Round One, were made to sit in one hall,
and the game was conducted. Again 3 rounds wereheld. In each round, position points and
killing points were calculated. At the end,the average positional points and killing points were
considered, and the top 2 teams were declared as Winners and Runners Up.

STORY TELLING/POETRY

The Department of Medical Electronics Engineering, MVJ College of Engineering organized
an event POETRY AND STORY TELLING, on13th April 2019, at the Swayam Culturalfestival.The
event took placein Seminar Hall -4 and comprised of2 rounds.
The Rules and Regulations for Round1:

The participants had 5 minutes to present a story. A grace time of 2 minutes was
allowed.
Stories had to be authentic, original or adapted.
Props, backdrops and electrical sound effects were not allowed.
Participants with the top scores were selected for the Second round.
The Rules and Regulations for Round2:
Each contestant gets to pick up a card.
After 30 seconds, the contestant tells his/her story/poem, based on a word or
picture on the chosen card.
Time allocated to present the impromptu story/poemis 3 minutes.
The Judge’s decision would be final.
There were 18 participants in the First round, and 6 in theSecond round, from various colleges
in and outside Bangalore.The event ended with the declaration of the winners, distribution of
participation certificates and cash prizes to the winners.
Cash prizes of Rs.3000 and Rs.2000 were given to the 1stand 2nd place winners, respectively.
Students had a very good opportunity to showcase their creativity, language skills and present
it with confidence. We thank the Organizing Committee, Faculty and Student Coordinators, for
making this event a grand success.

FIFA
FIFA was held on 13th April 2019, in MVJ College of Engineering, as part of the Swayam festival.
FIFA, also known as FIFA Football or FIFA Soccer, is a series of Association football video games

or football simulator, released annually by Electronic Arts under the EA Sports label. Football
video games such as Sensible Soccer, Kick Off and Match Day had been developed since the late
1980s and already competitive in the games market, when EA Sports announced a football
game as the next addition to their EA Sports label. The Guardian called the series "The slickest,
most polished, and by far, the most popular football game around.”
For the FIFA event at MVJCE, 32 students registered. The event was conducted in 5 rounds, in
the MCA Lab.
1stRound:
Each game comprises 2 participants. Therefore, 16 games are conducted resulting in 16
winners.
2ndRound:
The 16 winners of the first game are again put in contest. 8 games are now conducted,throwing
up 8 winners.
3rdRound:
The 8 winners from the second round are made to compete against one another. 4 games are
conducted, resulting in 4 winners.
4thRound (Semi Final):
The 4 winners from the previous round now compete. 2 games are conducted, resulting in 2
winners.
5thRound (Final):
The 2 winners from the previous round are now pitted against each other. 2 games are
conducted and finally, we have 1 Winner and one Runner Up.
VOICE OF SWAYAM-INDIAN
One of the extravagant events of Swayam 2k19, Solo Indian Singing took place on the 2ndday of
Swayam, on 13thApril 2019,at the Lawn.The event witnessed 33 participants from various
colleges. The Guest Mr. Pankaj Lalge, an alumnusof MVJCE, currently a professional singer,had
been invited to judge the event. The event began with alot of enthusiasm at the First round,
and only 11 participants qualified for the Second round. All the singerswere of excellent caliber,
making the event spectacular.

The winners Ashwini Prabhu(HKPK College) and Sahana(MS Ramaiah College) bagged the First
and Second places, respectively, with Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000 cash prizes. The Student
Coordinators for the event were NikithaS, Nanditha and Tharun Ravikumar.The Faculty
Coordinator was Ms.Surabhi. The judge set the following criteria to assess the performances:

3. Choice of song
Karaoke and instrumentalists were allowed to play in the background, as the participants
performed.The event came to a close at around 2:30 pm. Participation certificates were given
to the participants. The prize distribution for the event took place on the second day, at the
auditorium.

Department, organized an event “VOX UNGPLUGGED ACOUSTICS” on 13th April, 2019 at Dr. M
V Jayaraman Auditorium.
The event started at 01:00pm on 13th April with student registrations. Total 5 groups
from MVJCE and other college had participated in the event. The teams had to have a
mandatory of two members and maximum of four and atmost two instruments and minimum
of one vocal. The event had one round, in which the participants have to choose any film or
album song and come up with an unplugged version of it and have to perform within the given
duration of time. The marks were given by considering 5 criteria pitch, creativity, voice
modulation and overall impact.
The event ended with declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates and cash
prize to winners.

At the annual cultural festival Swayam, the event‘Time to Mime’ was held on 13th April,in the
main Auditorium.Students had to enact a theme or a scene of their choice, to showcase their

acting skills. The event started with student registrations.4 groupsparticipated in the event.The
teams were judged based on their topic selection, expression, innovation, acting, costume,
screenplay and impact on the audience.
The teams enacted themes based on issues concerning the society. The judge for the
event was Mr. Pradeep, an ex-alumnus of MVJCE. The judge not only addressed the gathering
and gave the participants tips for improvement,but also enacted some scenes.
The event ended with the declaration of the winners, distribution of participation
certificates and cash prizes to winners.
Cash prizes of Rs.6000 and Rs.3000 were given to the 1stand 2nd winners, respectively.
This was an ideal platform for students to showcase their talent and acting skills. We thank the
Organizing Committee, Faculty and Student Coordinators for the great show.

“PLAY”
The second day of Swayam 2019 saw the revival of the Play competition, an art form that is
considered to be the purest form of theatre and dramatics. In spite of it becoming a rare
feature in Banglaore’s college fests, due to its considerably longer performance time of 30 to 45
minutes, the event was a great hit among the crowd. A total of three teams performed among
which the first prize of Rs.6000 was bagged by Raagabhinaya the home team of MVJ College of
Engineering. The audience thoroughly enjoyed every performance and the excellent lighting
and acoustics of the auditorium made every performance a delight for the participants and for
the spectators.

As a part of Swayam, the Information Science Departmentat MVJ College of
Engineeringorganized an event ‘Solo Indian Dance’, on 12th April, 2019, in the M V Jayaraman
Auditorium. The event started with student registrations. There were 10 participants from
MVJCE and other colleges. The event consisted of only one round. The scores were given,
considering 5 criteria - performance, technique, presentation, creativityand choreography.
The event ended with the declaration of the winners and distribution of participation
certificates and cash prizes to the winners.

This was a wonderful opportunity for students to display their innovative ideas,

STAND UP COMEDY

The Department of Medical Electronics Engineering, MVJ College of Engineering, organized
an event ‘Stand Up Comedy’, on13th April 2019.
The Rules and Regulations:
The participants would be asked to prepare a comedy act of 5-6 minutes duration,to be
performed in front of a live audience.
Judging Criteria: Content, Quality of humor, Stage presence, Audience engagement
Rules:
Mono acting, puppetry and musicals are not allowed.
Use of props and only English language is allowed.
Decision taken by the Judge is absolute and binding.
15 participants from various colleges in and outside Bangalore participated in the event. The
event was judged by thefamous Stand Up Comedian Anand Rathnam.
The event ended with the declaration of the winners and distribution of participation
certificates and cash prizes to the winners.
Cash prize of Rs.3000 and Rs.2000 were given to the 1stand 2nd place winners, respectively.

The audience enjoyed themselves thoroughly and it was amazing to see a great sense of
spontaneous humour and wit in the participants! The Organizing Committee and Faculty and
Student Coordinators deserve appreciation for this fun-filled event.

MINI CRICKET
Date: 10th to 13th April, 2019
Time: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

As a part of Swayam 2K19, the ECE Department atMVJ College of Engineering, organized
an event ‘Mini Cricket’ from 10th to 13th April, 2019, at the MVJCE playground.
It was mandatory for students to participate with a team of 8 members, out of which
one must be a girl student. 46 teams registered for the event. The tournament was a Knockout
series. Each team has to bowl for 6 overs, out of which one over must be bowled by the girl in
the team. Only one bowler in a team can bowl 2 overs.
The event ended with the declaration of the winners and distribution of participation
certificates and cash prizes to the winners. Cash prizes of Rs.8000/- and Rs.4000/- were given to
the 1st and 2nd place winners, respectively.
