P3 Level Letter (Term 1)
Dear Parent / Guardian,
Our Primary Three level wishes you ‘Happy New Year’ and warmly welcomes your child back to
school. We look forward to working with you and your child this year.
Each term, you will receive a letter which serves to inform and update you on matters pertaining
to the Primary Three level. We seek your patience in thoroughly reading the contents of the letters.
Do contact or email your child’s form teacher if you need any clarifications or have any concerns.
We strongly recommend that you call the office at 63687705 to make an appointment with your
child’s teacher should you wish to meet him/her.
At the last MOE’s Workplan Seminar, Minister of Education Mr Ng Chee Meng has recommended
3 key strategies in developing the 21st century learner:
1. Joy of Learning 2. Entrepreneurial Dare 3. Strengthening the Singapore Spirit
Joy of Learning
At the Primary Three level, we want to provide a conducive learning environment where our pupils
find learning a joyful experience. We want to ignite in our pupils a sense of wonderment in their
learning. We will do this through the level motto, “Listen. Think. Try”. We want our pupils to
adopt the following mindset:
“Before you act, Listen”
“Before you react, Think”
“Before you quit, Try”
As pupils advance from Primary 2 to Primary 3, they will experience changes in academic
workload and examination formats. Hence, their learning curve will be steep. Through myriad
activities that we’ve planned for our pupils this year, we aim to develop them into reflective and
resilient pupils who will embrace changes confidently and always strive their very best.
We have a team of experienced teachers who will be working together and with you to support
our pupils. The e-mail addresses of the level teachers are listed in Appendix A. Do feel free to
contact your child’s form/subject teacher should you require any clarification.

Entrepreneurial Dare
Entrepreneurial Dare is a mindset. It is an attitude of wanting to do better, find breakthroughs, of
wanting to innovate. This is in line with one of our school’s shared values, “Dare to innovate”.
We hope to work with parents to instill in our pupils the resilience to preserve in times of failures,
overcome obstacles and succeed in life. As quoted from Henry Ford, “Failure is simply the
opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently” we must encourage pupils to have
the grit to move on so that they can become more tenacious and independent.
Strengthening the Singapore Spirit
With many uncertainties around the world, we must refresh our efforts to promote a strong
Singapore Spirit, so that our pupils can develop a strong sense of belonging to Singapore, a
keener sense of social unity and cohesion, and a desire to contribute beyond themselves to help
fellow Singaporeans succeed. Through our National Education and values inculcation
programmes, we will engage the pupils on how they can be contributing and gracious citizens of
Singapore. We hope you can use teachable moments at home to educate your child too.
Parent as a Partner
Bringing up a child is like a voyage, and as a parent, you are the key navigator of your child’s
growth. His development is set primarily at home and in school, and when these two environments
are in tune with each other, your child benefits the most. A number of studies have connected
home-school collaboration to better learning, healthy self-esteem, and more positive attitude and
behaviour in life. Therefore, your involvement is essential in your child’s education journey. It is
important that we work hand-in-hand to maximise your child’s potential in life.
To build a better working relationship with each other, let’s observe the following principles:
Trust is the foundation
Remember the child
Understand our shared responsibilities
Seek common ground
Together we work towards common goals
You can help by:
Reinforcing good thinking habits with your child at home
Setting learning goals with your child
Providing a conducive learning environment at home for
your child
Monitoring and checking your child’s work daily
Affirming and encouraging your child regularly
Working closely with the teachers
Being part of the Parents’ Support Group as a Parent Volunteer
Please visit the Parent-In-Education (PIE) website at http://parents-in-education.moe.gov.sg for more information on how you can be involved in your child’s education journey.

Finally, let me share with you an article on how a mother helps her kids blossom (and avoid root rot). We urge parents not to constantly smoothen pathway for their child but to allow them to fail and try again; to develop the X-factor – that entrepreneurial dare.
While other mums were hipster gardening goddesses, I was the kind who hollered once every few days, "Did anyone remember to water the plants?", before sending a sullen Julian out with an elephant-shaped sprinkling can.
But orchids were different. It is testament to their hardy natures that I have managed to keep two orchids in the house for a couple of years
"Look at this one," I said. "It has a chin as long as Jay Leno's."
Over the next few days, I began scouring nurseries and Gardens by the Bay gift shops in search of unusual-looking (to me) orchids. I found one with huge purple blooms, speckled with white, its roots dangling free from a basket. I also acquired an unidentified Cattleya with delicate, thin petals and a lip like a fairy's pink cigar, as well as another Dendrobium plant with orange-yellow flowers like a sunset.
I started spending more time with my orchids than my children. I drove to orchid farms in Choa Chu Kang and forgot the time to pick them up from school. While the boys played in the living room, I sat at the dining table, fretting about my orchids' health. Too wet? Too dry? Root rot? Not enough sun? Sunburn? Water too hard? After the kids went to bed, I spent hours Googling orchid care methods, as well as scouring websites featuring exotic species. Once, I woke up at 3am to perform emergency repotting and root-amputation on an ailing moth orchid!
"Why won't my orchids grow properly?" I moaned to my husband, at every first sign of a yellowing leaf or bud blast. I stopped sleeping. I looked at my family's faces and saw an assemblage of dorsal and lateral sepals.
It was nothing like the urban farming mothers I saw online. My children did not smile blissfully as they helped me propagate seedlings or artfully arrange greenhouses. They did not listen with heads cocked while I recited amazing trivia about the natural world or life cycles. They spent zero minutes admiring the tiny orchid collection that I painstakingly tended to.
I supposed I was the same at their age: ignoring my mother as she pottered about her garden, giving her the most perfunctory of grunts as she waxed lyrical about how well her cherry tree was growing.
"Do you know that there is an orchid that depends on tiny crabs to fertilise its flowers?" I piped up, apropos of nothing, at the dinner table one evening.
The boys continued chewing their food, waiting patiently for me to be done with my monologue about orchids that mimicked bees, butterflies and so on to seduce them into pollinating them. Then they continued giggling over something else.
It struck me then that growing orchids was not dissimilar to rearing children. One could not force an orchid to grow or be something it didn't want to. In some cases, pampering an orchid and overwatering it was the fastest way to kill it. To make your orchid happy, once you have satisfied its needs and given it an optimum environment, leave it alone.
As a parent, I watch for telltale signs that something is not right, before hopefully adjusting the conditions accordingly and quickly. A lot is trial and error. It will also take time, and the orchid - I mean, kid - might not respond immediately. But we can all strive to be constant gardeners - prepared to change and, infinitely harder, resist the urge to cultivate to the point of interference.
I feel better these days about giving my kids some "benign neglect" - not every moment has to be an educational or productive one. They learn lots of things without me shoving it down their throats.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Remarks
1. 4Ps (Present, , Punctual, Proper & Perform)
As a school, we would like to reiterate the code of conduct for our pupils
in this academic year. The code of conduct is categorised according to
the 4Ps: Present, Punctual, Proper and Perform.
Please note that pupils are required to be in school by 7.20 a.m. Flag-
raising will start at 7.30 a.m. sharp. Pupils are considered late after 7.30
a.m. Punctuality is a good habit to cultivate from young. Thus, we need
your assistance in ensuring that your child is punctual for school.
2. Absence from school
We take the pupils’ holistic development very seriously and hence, urge
all parents to ensure regular attendance for their children so as not to
miss out on their studies and CCA. Pupils are to be in school during
term time and not allowed to leave the country earlier. Teachers are not
required to provide worksheets or homework in advance in such cases.
We seek parents’ kind co-operation on this.
If there should be a need for your child to be absent during term time,
please furnish either a medical certificate or a letter.
3. Discipline and Well-Being
During the orientation week, your child was briefed on discipline matters
and class/school expectations. Every form teacher had spent a
substantial time to teach, guide and share with your child their
expectations. You can read more about school rules and expectations
in the Student Diary.
Pupils are not allowed to bring mobile phones or any other digital
devices. Pupils who need to contact their parents may use the payphone
located in the canteen.
Please ensure that your child packs hisaccording to the given timetable.
Not only will this teach him/her to be more responsible but also prevents
your child from bringing heavy bags to school.
If you do have concerns on these matters, please speak with the Form
teacher.
4. Mode of Communication
The Student Diary will be used as the mode of communication between
teachers and parents. You may also contact the teachers through email
or call the office at 63687705. Please make an appointment with the
teacher if you would like to meet him / her. (Meeting of teachers is strictly
by appointment only.)
5. Temperature-taking
Pupils must exercise social responsibility and take the basic precautions
to safeguard themselves and their schoolmates. Temperature-taking is
an important aspect of that.
8
Please ensure your child has his thermometer in his/her bag during
temperature-taking exercise.
6. Homework Policy
All homework will be recorded by pupils in their Student Diary. We would
also like to seek your help to monitor your child’s homework so that he
has consistent practice and is able to manage time effectively.
7. Whole-School Approach Reading Programme and Speak Internationally Acceptable English (IAE)
Pupils are to read age-appropriate English storybooks and to speak in
Internationally Acceptable English at ALL times to enhance their
proficiency in English (except during MT periods).
Please ensure that your child brings an age-appropriate English
storybook to school every day.
8. Weekly Spelling Exercise
Your child will have his/her weekly Mother Tongue and English spelling
exercises on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively, starting from Week
3. If a public holiday falls on the spelling days, the spelling exercise will
be held on the next school day.
9. Remedial Remedial are targeted and conducted on a needs basis. More details
will be given at a near date.
10. Assessments The school uses varied modes of assessments to assess pupils
appropriately for follow-up actions. These assessments include the
Revision Tests, Practical Tests and Semester Assessments.
More information on SAs will be furnished nearer the dates.
(Please refer to Appendix C for the Assessment Plan Term 1)
11. Learning through Computer Applications
The pupils will be using Mconline and other ICT tools in the learning
process. These tools serve as platforms for pupils to access information
posted by their teachers, share their knowledge with their peers, as well
as to engage in collaborative work with their group members. We
strongly encourage all parents to allow their children to log onto the
computer to access these tools so as to supplement their learning from
Term 1 onwards.

Please take note of some important examination regulations:
All pupils must be punctual for tests and examinations
Pupils who are not able to sit for the tests / examinations must produce an official document e.g medical certificate. Absentees without such official documents will not have their marks for their tests / examinations pro-rated. We seek your cooperation to exercise social responsibility when you child is unwell. Pupils are advised to stay away from school until they are deemed fit by the medical doctor to return to school. Parents should inform the school of the absence of their child.
If a student misbehaves or does not follow the examination regulations during the examination, he/she may be expelled from the examination room/hall and will not be allowed to sit for subsequent papers. His/her examination results may also be forfeited.
All pupils must be honest and truthful during test / examinations. Any pupil caught cheating or involved in cheating any way during tests / examinations as well as attempts to alter marks and/or answers on tests/examinations will be heavily penalized for that subject and subject to disciplinary actions.
There will not be any makeup examination sessions for pupils who are absent from any of the examinations with the exception of Oral Examinations.
Kindly note that for pupils who may have sat for external examinations/competitions such as Music Examinations, there will be no special arrangements made for them. Parents are advised to request for a reschedule of the external event dates where possible should there be a clash with the school’s assessment dates.
