My Church

My church is composed of people

like me.

I help make it what it is.

It will be friendly, if I am.

Its pews will be filled, if I help fill

them.

It will make generous gifts to

many causes, if I am a generous

giver.

It will bring other people into its

worship and fellowship, if I invite

and bring them.

It will be a church of loyalty and

love, of fearlessness and faith,

and a church with a noble spirit,

if I, who make it what it is, am

filled with these same things.

Therefore, with the help of God, I

shall dedicate myself to the task

of being all the things that I want

my church to be.

Health Kit Items Needed for June

Thank You EVERYONE for your support of

the Back Pack Project by donating food items and pack-ing bags. With your help this has been a successful school year! During May, you generously donated 105 granola/cereal bars; 300 individual packets of instant oatmeal; and 4 jars of peanut butter to the Program. Items that could not be used by the Backpack Program are donated to the Richland-Wilkin Food Pantry. DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE THE “ONE THING” collection is for ANY of the following health kit items: (Look for the totes in the Fellowship Hall for your donation.) hand towels (ONLY - 15” x 25” up to 17” x 27”

– no kitchen towels) wash cloths combs (large and sturdy, not pocket sized) fingernail clippers (no toenail clippers) bath size bars of soap (3 oz. and up) toothbrushes (single brushes only in original

wrapper, no child-size brushes) plastic strip sterile bandages

All items included in kits must be NEW items. Kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into international countries, it is impor-tant that kits contain only the requested items, nothing more.

The only ones among you who will be

truly happy are those who have sought

and found how to serve.

Thank you to those who helped pack

backpacks on May 21: Jeanne Osborn, Bonnie

Anderson, Jan Moore, Pastor Jen, Sherri

Metcalf & Wayne Millar. (Not pictured: Fern

Bailey and Dianne Millar)

This inspiring collection has 100 devotions and includes multiple prayers for special occasions.

Women from the We Pray With Her group, a grassroots movement turned online collective of women faith leaders, wrote the included devotions and prayers. These

women serve all over the country, from upstate New York to the West Coast to Atlanta to rural North Dakota. They also serve in a variety of ministerial roles in the local church, chaplaincy, academia, and more.

UMW News By Denise Eastin

"Sacred Spaces: Encounters with God and Neighbor"

Thanks to Hope Circle for hosting the May 10th General Meeting of

UMW. Eleven members were present.

Alinda Bassingthwaite presented the program for the evening,

entitled "Sacred Space of Nurturing", based on Ruth and her daughter-

in-law, Naomi, and Jesus at the temple during Passover.

Our May Bake Sale was a financial success and offered hospitality to

the community. The free-will offering for rolls and coffee, plus the sale

of homemade baked goods and treats netted approximately $873.00

after expenses. Wow!! Thank you to all who participated and/or

prayed for the success of this mission minded event. That's a lot of

money raised for Mission in just two short hours. To God be the Glory!

Love Ribbons were made available on Mother's Day. Donations of over $20 were collected. Hopefully,

Love Ribbons will be available again on Father's Day, Sunday June 17th ... any volunteers?

Social Action coordinator, Marjo Johnson, requested that Box Tops for Education, along with Our

Family codes be turned in to the church kitchen as soon as possible so they can be taken to the school

before the end of the school year.

The General meetings of UMW will resume in the Fall. Please don't stop you from exploring the UMW

Reading Program. We have quite an array of titles for

women of all age groups. Our reading lists must be

submitted to Program Resources Coordinator, Lois Berndt,

by early August, so it's time to get reading.

We all have different things that fill our lives with joy from time to time. One of those for me has always been writing. Before I was a pastor and had the opportunity to write and share weekly sermons, I found myself writing and sharing life and theology and other reflections through a blog. Since I started preaching, though, I haven’t really sought an outlet to write much beyond what I offer here in the local church. At least, I didn’t until a couple of years ago. In 2016 I was asked to help lead a group of United Methodist Clergywomen who were coming together to write daily devotions. Through this work over the past couple of years, I have redis-covered a new way of doing this same old thing (writing) in newly exciting and life-giving ways. The more we wrote, and the more we read and prayed through one another’s work, the more clear it became that this was a filling a need we didn’t previously realize we had. That is: there are a lot of resources and incredible devotional texts out there, but there aren’t many aimed spe-cifically at women in leadership. Fast forward to the fall of 2017, and a publisher (Abingdon Press) reached out to our editing team (made up of myself and 4 other UMC clergywomen) to enquire about writing more of these devotions to publish in a book. These devotions would be written with women in leadership in mind, offered as a way to connect with God during the daily challenges and joys that are a part of leading while female. Eager for this new opportunity, our team came together and invited nearly 70 United Methodist clergywomen to submit devotions to be published in our forthcoming book, “We Pray With Her: Encouragement for All Women Who Lead.” Our editorial team met in Washington, DC in January 2018, where we put together a draft for the first time. Together, we have spent countless days and hours working to bring together this in-credible — and incredibly diverse — collection of 100 devotions. With each turn of the page, we seek to prayerfully support all of the “hers” in our world — at home, in business, in the church, and throughout our communities. I have learned a great deal throughout this process. I am proud of our final product, and can’t wait to share these reflections with the world. I am also proud that we have decided to publish this work with all royalties going not to the individuals who have produced it: but to a scholarship fund for future United Methodist clergywomen enrolled in a United Methodist seminary. It is our small way of ensuring we can “pay it forward,” supporting women in leadership in yet another way. As we draw near to the release date (Sept 4, 2018) of “We Pray With Her…” I have been con-templating the gift of using the joy of writing to support and encourage women (and others!),

many of whom I will likely never meet. It makes me wonder what else in our lives — and in your life — we might do to “pay it forward” for those who will come behind us? How can we pray for them? Lead them? Make the journey a little bit lighter for them? How can you use your gifts this day, this week, this month, this year … to bless others? That is what “We Pray With Her” has become about for me… and I hope it can encourage you to do the same.
