1 In March, we signed the construction contract with Peam Enterprises to build Bright Hope Education Center (BHEC) in Nairobi, Kenya. Construction took place through August and was on time and on budget. Beyond construction, our main objective in 2015 was to raise funding through private donors to cover the cost of sending 30 kids from the Kibera slum to high school in 2016. By year- end 2015, we had all students sponsored for the upcoming year. Each annual scholarship of $836 includes: a uniform, books, teacher salaries, a hot meal, a pair of shoes and socks, sanitary pads each month and school utilities. FUNDRAISING HIGHLIGHT // In October, EGC hosted its first ever 5K fundraiser race and 1 mile kids fun run. We successfully partnered with local businesses to cover our race expenses and raised over $8400 toward furnishing Bright Hope Education Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. Our plans to fund education this year include private donors, hosting the 2nd Annual 5K, and hosting a crawfish boil. From February-April, Every Girl Counts will have an intern working with us through Belmont’s Social Entrepreneurship program. Our intern, Anna Rose Steinle, has been working to develop and implement a social media plan that will increase awareness of our organization. Also during 2016 we will be researching and developing the implementation of an aquaponics program and raising chickens to lead to long term self sustainability at Bright Hope.
