Exactly what am I turning in between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31, 2018? Answer: This is your opportunity to submit either

Form 12 or Form 12A

(A) Form 12: Submit this form to request approval of upcoming trainings/courses not affiliated with FUSD or on the list of pre-approved trainings/courses. This is your opportunity to submit Form 12 Classified Employee Request for Professional Growth Approval.

(B): Form 12-A: This is the Application for Classified Employee Base Pay Increase form. If you have accumulated 48 approved seat hours, (48 seat hours = 1 step), you can submit for a movement on the salary schedule. HR will verify that all items have been pre-approved or on the list of pre-approved courses/trainings. If you submit trainings from the pre-approved list, HR may ask for a brief description of how the course relates to your position before processing your request. Certificates of completion, unofficial transcripts and AESOP reports or signed time sheets will be required (AESOP reports/time sheets verify you used personal leave).

4

What are the two major changes to the Classified Professional Growth system?

A. You only need 48 approved seat hours to result in a one-step movement on the classified compensation system up to the maximum step in the system as presented on the District HR compensation webpage. (formerly 60 seat hours)Accredited and approved college course credits are equal to 1 credit = 12 hours. (Formerly 1 credit = 15 hours). You can roll approved hours over to sit in a bank, as you work towards accumulating 48 seat B.

B. We have transitioned into a one year look back for Classified Professional Growth. Ex: If you submit 48 seat hours in January, you will receive your step advance the following school year. (You can advance more than one step at a time)

What trainings are eligible? Answer: Trainings are eligible if: (1) They were taken on the employee’s own time. If the district

paid the employee wages for the training or course, it is not eligible. Staff should include a copy of their AESOP record showing they used personal leave for the time if the program took place during their normal work schedule. If not, the documentation submitted must include the date and time of day of the program.

(2) The program is relevant to their profession or lifelong learning.

(3) The program provides a completion certificate, transcript, or other official document showing the employees name, date, program title, and seat hours

(4) The program must be offered by a recognized organization(5) Completed at an accredited College or University (6) The training was approved by the Classified Professional

Growth committee

6

Can I take trainings which are listed in the True North Logic (TNL) System? Answer: Yes. Read the course description to see if you need pre-approval. If so, follow these steps:

1. Complete Form 12-Classified Professional Growth Request For Approval

2. Return the form to Human Resources via email or intercampus mail. It will be reviewed by our Professional Development Coordinator and a member of the Classified Professional Growth Committee.

3. HR will let you know if the course is approved. 4. Retain that email to submit with your form 12A, when you

are ready to move on the salary schedule. 5. Sign up for the course in True North Logic. Choose “Credit

for Salary Advancement”.

7

Why do I need to get trainings pre-approved, which are being offered by FUSD through True North Logic? Answer: You only need to attain pre-approval when noted in the course description. The classified work group is a diverse population of employees, with differing job positions and duties (clerical, classroom, facilities, etc.) We want to leverage training opportunities to best fit the roles and responsibilities of employees in this workgroup. For example, if we offer a safety training for electricians, we may still require pre-approval to be sure limited seating is available for those who will most benefit from that training based upon their role. Keep in mind, as we continue to grow and expand, we hope to offer even more trainings specific to classified staff and the various positions.

8

How do I know where I currently stand with professional growth credits? Answer: We hope you’ve retained copies of all the items you’ve turned in. However, you are always welcome to visit human resources to view your employee file, as we keep the original documents. You are welcome to contact Wanda for help as well. In addition, it is our goal to capture professional growth hours in Employee Online. If you participated in the most recent Classified Professional Growth turn in process and moved on the salary schedule, your carryover hours should be captured in Employee Online. (HR is currently updating this information, due to the recent IFAS upgrade)

9

How do I mark my timecard if I take a training using personal, vacation or compensatory leave? Answer: Enter hours in applicable box (Leave Used, etc.). The “Explanation of Other Hours….” is a good place to NOTE the date and using personal Leave for Training/Professional Growth. You can then keep a copy for your records. When in doubt, call the payroll department directly for assistance. (You can not use sick leave for participating in professional development activities).

relates to your position)

Please double check that you can receive certificates of completion for the

trainings clearly showing dates and total hours of the training.

Community Colleges can offer a great savings in tuition costs. You can often take classes, and

not have to tie yourself to a “degree program”. (i.e. computer classes, maintenance classes,

writing classes, etc.) You can even take non-credit courses as well. However, be sure to check

that the college will issue a certificate which states seat hours so it can be applied for

advancement.

- Coconino Community College

- Central Arizona College

- Rio Salado College

- Prescott College

- Pima Community College

You may want to research some of the non-traditional colleges as well. Caution: Depending on

how these colleges are accredited, these credits may or may not be able to transfer to schools

such as Coconino Community College, NAU or ASU. However, you may find that the content

of what they offer is just what you are looking for. Be sure to research the schools completely,

and understand how they are accredited, and what that could mean for transferring to other

traditional colleges if that is your goal.

Examples:

Penn Foster College

Ashworth College
