Whether it’s a friendship or a marriage, the bonds that people forge between each other can result in either good or evil. God wants the relationships we establish in our lives to be fulfilling, but when we don’t follow His guidelines in this area, we can run into trouble. The Bible has plenty to say about developing and maintaining godly relationships according to His plan for us. g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g The first relationship was Adam and Eve, but it went downhill as soon as they turned away from God’s will for them. They had the best of intentions, but when they began listening to the serpent’s voice instead of God’s voice, everything went wrong. Fast-forwarding to the present, nothing has changed as far as the need for God to be at the center of every relationship. If we want to be surrounded by godly individuals, we must put God first. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt. 6:33). Exemplifying Christian behavior is crucial to being a good representative of God’s kingdom. When we believe strongly enough in everything the Word of God says, this belief will move from our intellectual mind down into our heart, and show in our speech and actions. “Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord” (Romans 12:9-11). We’ll stand out from the rest of the world, and attract like-minded individuals whose heartfelt spiritual values line up with ours. g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g g For instance, the world’s “dating scene” is obscene even by its own standards, and if we follow those standards to find a husband or wife, we’ll certainly make a mistake. God loves us and wants us to be happy, and He de- lights in using other people to show us that love. Unfortunately, when we get involved with the wrong kind of person, the devil has an opportunity to use those closest to us to inflict pain and suffering. “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believ- eth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people” (2 Corinthians 6:14-16). There are way too many divorces taking place, but following God’s commandment in this area greatly reduces the chances of a painful breakup. God wants to bless us with Christian friends and a godly marriage, but He ultimately lets us make our own decisions in choosing our friends and future spouse. Associating with the wrong group of people can lead us down the wrong path, and this can be a major stumbling block for us. “Do not be deceived and misled! Evil companionships (communion, associations) corrupt and deprave good manners and morals and character” (1 Corinthians 15:33). Praying for guidance in what relationships we should embrace - and which ones to avoid - really works. God will honor this prayer! What I’m Thankful For by Kruzz Michael, 7 years old

I am thankful for my family and I’m thankful for my

church and all of the nice people that go there,

because I like nice people.

I’m thankful for my hermit crab Robin, and for my

mom because she is a good cook. She makes really

good chicken, and we like to eat green peppers.

I’m happy because I’m going back to school now, I like my school.

Mostly I like my red and blue Transformers guy!

If you are a part of Calvary’s

family, you’re invited to attend

the Annual Business Meeting on

Monday, September 12, 2016,

at 6:30 p.m.

We are Larry and Juanita Godwin, coming to you

live from our home in Teopisca, Chiapas, Mexico,

where we have been serving our Lord and Savior,

Jesus Christ, for 17 years here in Chiapas. Wow!

Time does fly when you are having fun. And what joy

we have in being God's willing servants as we walk

with Him and do His will for our lives.

In Larry's preaching, he mentioned that we, in the

United States, should also have this gratefulness of sharing with family

and loved ones when God has blessed us. Just like the woman in Luke

15:8-9 who finds her lost coin and calls in her friends and neighbors and

has a party for having found her lost coin. Dear ones, learn to be ever so

grateful to God because He has blessed us, is blessing us and will

continue to bless us. Larry & Juanita Godwin

We are collecting canned goods to help build our pantry for the upcom-ing holiday season. We are collecting all non-expired canned goods, including, but not limited to: fruits, beans, vegetables, meats, soups,

sauces and gravies.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

R.I.S.E.U.P. (Respect, Integrity, Self-Control,

Excellence, Unashamed & Purpose)

There are two classes for this ministry. Sis. Michelle Martinez and Sis. Donna Wilson

teach the 4 yrs olds through 2nd grade and have done so for many, many years. They start

their Sunday mornings off with bible songs and motions followed by teaching which is

often incorporated with arts and crafts, and ends with a snack. They teach the basic

foundations such as the fruit of the spirit, prayer, and bring many bible stories to life with

their exciting teaching techniques. Both are passionate educators, and count it a blessing

to teach your little ones.

The second class is lead by Sis. Rosalind Peters, Bro. Andy Merritt, and Sis. Pat Hill.

They teach 3rd through 8th grade and have an amazing group of young people who enjoy

diving deep into the word of God. Their most recent studies were on the Rapture where

students were taught that they should ask the Lord to prepare them for that great event

when believers will suddenly be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, and that Christ will

surely come back for them! Another recent lesson was on Attributes of God and

Attributes of Satan, where they learned what the bible reveals about both. In the end they

learned that God is trustworthy, wise, good and just...so why would they want to disregard

His leading and advice in their lives. Bro. Andy and I taught these lessons over several

weeks and on a level that the young people understood (we always take as much time as

necessary to ensure they "get it") and send handouts home for further study and to share

with parents or guardians.

S.W.A.T. (Students with a Testimony)

This ministry is led by Minister Jervis Peters. He teaches our high-schoolers and prepares

them go out and impact this world with the love, power and authority of Jesus Christ by

sharing their testimony of His goodness, mercy and forgiveness. Recent studies in this

class were “Things You Won't Learn in a Classroom” and “Reaching Beyond the

Breaking Point.“ They were taught to stay positive when times get tough and to main-

tain a healthy balance in life…. There will always be more than one option and more than

one obligation competing for their time...they must choose wisely. They were also

reminded of Ephesians 6:13b, “and having done all...to stand”.

We have many events throughout the year, if you are interested in volunteering in any

capacity please see Minister Jervis or Sis. Rosalind Peters.

Much prayer and preparation is required to effectively teach these classes and we solicit

your continued prayers.

CEC Women’s Ministry will be hosting a Paint Night Ladies Night out . There is room for 30 women. The cost for all materials is $25 per person.

Please bring your favorite dish to share with the ladies. We will have games, lots of laughter, and fun, fun, fun!!!!
