Everything Alice is a truly enchanting
collection of 50 craft projects to make, bake,
and decorate. With each of the ideas magically
brought to life by crafters Hannah Read-Baldrey
and Christine Leech, the projects range from the
supremely simple yet highly effective fabric-
covered teapot planters to the wonderfully scented
candles that ll china teacups and exquisite
jewelry made from tiny dollshouse tea sets.
Alice’s fantastical adventures in Wonderland
provide the inspiration for each of the 50
makes, including a hand-sewn Humpty Dumpty
doorstop and Cheshire Cat hand warmers,
decorative playing card bunting, and a shadow
puppet theater. While the projects take the
Alice in Wonderland tales as their starting point,
they all stand alone as gorgeous items in their own
right. Choose from the irresistible beaded napkin
rings made in the initials of each of your guests,
the lavender-scented velvet dormice, and an
assortment of beautifully decorated cupcakes.
The ideas and instructions for the makes are
interspersed with instructions for fun party gamesand snippets of Wonderland lore, such as “How
to Become a Queen”, “How to Run a Caucus
Race”, and “How to Play Musical Chairs.”
So follow Hannah and Christine down the
rabbit hole into a genuine Wonderland of
adorable craft ideas.

The charm of this box is that it works at many dif ferent sizes. A small cupcake makesa perfect gift box for something special while larger ones are great embroidery or jewelry
cases—the soft frosting top is perfect for storing either pins or brooches.
CUPCAKE EMBROIDERY BOX
To make the case 9 Using the templates on page 127, cut
one of each of the base and sides from1/8"-thick buff or white cardboard. If you are
using pale fabrics to cover the case, a darker
shade of cardboard may show through.
9 Roll the sides piece into a conical shape,
overlapping the short edges by approximately
1". Fix the join securely with masking tape.
If necessary, reinforce this join with another
narrow piece of cardboard.
9 Slip the base piece into the sides so that
it sits snugly at the bottom. Fix the base piece
to the sides using masking tape. Keep thisneat so there are no bumps to show through.

To cover the case 9 Using the template on page 127, cut out
one sides piece from the print cotton adding
a 3/8" seam allowance all the way around.
9 Turn under a 3/8" hem at one short edge
of the sides fabric (see A). Fix in place with
double-sided tape. Starting at one side of the
join, x the unhemmed short edge of the
sides fabric to the cardboard case with more
tape (see B). Wrap the length of the sides
fabric around the case, aligning top and
lower edges and overlapping the raw edge
with the hemmed edge. Fix in place with
more tape.
9 Clip the 3/8" seam allowance all the way
around both the top and lower edges, spacing
each cut approximately 3/8" apart.

To make the cherry 9 Trace and cut out the templates on page
127. Fold the red fabric in half widthwise
with right sides facing. Place the cherry
template on the fabric and draw around it
with tailor’s chalk. Pin both sides of the
fabric together. Stitch along the curved sides, leaving the top open for a turning hole. Trim
the excess fabric close to the line of stitching
and up to the chalk mark on the open edge.
Turn right side out and press. Turn under the
open edges and press. Repeat with the green
fabric and leaf template.
9 To make the stalk, fold the brown felt in
half. Place the straight edge of the template
along the fold. Stitch along two sides. Trim
the excess fabric close to the line of stitching.
Insert the pipecleaner and twist into shape.
9 Hand sew a line of running stitches
around the opening of the cherry. Fill with
toy stufng and then pull the stitches up tight.
Before the hole closes completely, stitch the
leaf and stalk to the inside of the cherry. Tie
the gathered threads tight. Pull the leaf down
and hold in place with a few stitches. Sew the
cherry to the lid covering the center hole.
To join the lid and case 9 Align the seam of the lid with the join of
the case. Place the lined lid disk in the center
of the lid, covering any untidy edges and
sandwiching the ribbon hinge between the
lid and the disk. Glue in place. If you want to
add a button and ribbon fastening to the
front of the case, sandwich a 3" loop of
narrow ribbon between the lid and disk, then
hand sew a button to the case to match.1 join the lid 2

9 Run a strip of tape around the inside
rim of the case, very close to the top. Fold the
fabric to the inside and stick it to the tape—
the cuts in the fabric allow it to overlap
giving a smooth nish. Repeat at the base.
9 To prevent the box from slipping, cut a
disk of felt the same size as the base using
pinking shears. Glue in place.
To line the case 9 Using the template on page 127, cut one
disk from the lining fabric. Snip 1/4" cuts
around the circumference. Spread a thin
layer of glue onto the inside base of the case
and a little way up the sides. Place the fabric
disk inside the case and press. Leave to dry.
9 For the hinge, cut one 31/4" length of
11/2"-wide ribbon. Glue the rst 11/4" of
ribbon to the inside of the case at the join.
9 Using the template on page 127, cut
one sides piece from the lining fabric using
pinking shears. Spread a thin layer of glue
onto the inside of the case. Place the fabric
inside the case and press. Leave to dry.
To make the lid 9 Using the template on page 127, cut an
inner and outer lid from white cardboard.
9 Turn under a 3/4" hem along one long
side of the white jersey fabric. Press and
stitch. To join the tube, fold the fabric in half
widthwise with right sides facing and stitch
along the short edges, stopping 1/4" before
hemmed edge. Pass a length of embroidery
thread through the gap in the hem, leaving
an extra 4" of thread at each end.
9 Slip the larger cardboard disk into the
fabric tube and position it 11/4" in from the
unhemmed lower edge. The stretch of
the fabric holds the disk in place. Take this
11/4" over to the base of the disk and glue
in place.
9 Place the lid on a at surface. Fill the
fabric tube with a large handful of toy
stufng, adjusting the amount until it looksright. To gather the lid, draw up the lengths
of embroidery thread as tightly as possible.
Do not worry about the small hole left in the
“frosting” as this will be covered by the
cherry. Decorate with ribbons and beads.
9 Cut the disk of lining fabric using the
template. Snip 1/4" cuts around the
circumference. Spread a thin layer of glue
onto the smaller cardboard disk and cover
with the lining fabric, taking the excess fabric
to the reverse side.
“ S oon Alice’s eye fell on a little glass box that
was lying under the table: she opened it, and foundin it a very small cake, on which the words
‘EAT ME’were beautifully marked in currants.”
