oad Angels is proud to unveil a partnership with Tengai Online, an online grocery platform incorporated in the UK. The Tengai Online clients based in the diaspora can now pay for Roadside Assistance membership for their loved ones in Zimbabwe in addition to the array of services currently offered, which includes groceries, hampers, beauty products and fuel to name a few. The country coverage for the online grocery platform is worldwide but the top five countries are currently the United Kingdom, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and United States of America.

Tengai Online’s primary objective is to ensure that Zimbabweans in the diaspora can easily provide essential groceries for their loved ones in the knowledge that this will be done in a timely and efficient manner. With that in mind it was seen that this service could easily be extended to clients in the diaspora who could purchase Road Angels Roadside Assistance membership for the same loved ones who they are purchasing groceries for.

Commenting on this new and exciting partnership, Sasha Chikwan-da the Road Angels Business Development Angel stated, “As you know, Road Angels has always been known for introducing innova-tive products to the Zimbabwean market which are not only friendly on the pocket but also bring great convenience to our clients. When we realised that Tengai Online has a great track record on the online market, we said to ourselves- why don’t we partner with them so that Zimbabweans in the diaspora can also buy Roadside Assistance membership for their parents, wives, children and relatives back home.” This gave birth to the innovative partnership between Road Angels and Tengai Online.

Existing and new Tengai Online clients can either log onto the Road Angels website and click the diaspora drop down menu or go on the Tengai Online website and click on Road Angels in order to access the online shopping basket. The user can then select the best preferred package.

MEMBERSHIP PACKAGESThe Angel Basic is for a membership fee of £37 per year, the Angel Supreme is £74 per year and the Angel Unlimited is £247 per year. The three packages vary in the services which are rendered with the following services being available on all three packages: towing, jump starting, tyre change, fuel delivery (always subject to availabili-ty) and fixing of tyres. The variance comes in the vehicle valuation, mechanical reports, and in the number of assists whereby there is a

50 percent discount on the Angel Basic package but these are fully covered in the Supreme and Unlimited packages. On the Angel Basic the member will get four free assists per year whereas the Supreme and Unlimited package member will get eight assists per year. Therefore, the member on the Supreme and Unlimited package will greatly enjoy almost equal benefits with their active membership. The greatest difference however between the two prime packages is the mileage whereby the Supreme member is covered up to a radius of 60 kilometres from the Road Angels premises while the Unlimited member enjoys 8 assists with an unlimited radius within Zimbabwe. The radius is measured from any one of our current 10 service centres and growing.

Mpho, a satisfied customer based in the United Kingdom, who purchased an Angel Supreme package for her mother based in Bulawayo, stated, “I have been buying groceries for my mum using the Tengai Online user platform for the past three years and this has been very convenient for me as sending money back home required my mum having to queue all the time to receive the money. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard that Tengai Online had partnered with Road Angels the number one Roadside Assistance in Zimbabwe. I quickly purchased membership for my mum, who is now widowed as I knew that I did not have to worry about her being stuck on the road in case she had a breakdown. I also knew that she did not have the resources to buy the membership by herself therefore I could do this on her behalf and just communicate the membership details to her. In her case as well, she does not have to worry when she is driving, even a flat tyre does not need to stress her. She can also visit her relatives in the rural areas with no stresses as it is well within the 60 kilometre radius covered by the package I purchased on her behalf”. “

This innovative partnership has indeed eased the worry for people in the diaspora, as they can now take care of their relatives’ Roadside Assistance needs at a click of a button.

With Christmas coming and lots of travel anticipated, we feel this is a timely introduction to the market and will indeed bring conve-nience not only to the motorist but also to the Diapora based loved one who can now sleep easy knowing that whatever happens, their relatives at home will never get stranded on the road.

I am Member- Join today and enjoy free 24 - hour roadside assistance across Zimbabwe. What exactly does this mean in real terms? What happens when a Road Angels member has a breakdown or is unfortu-nately involved in an accident? Below is an outline of the processes a member goes through when they call the Road Angels switchboard.

Step 1: A member’s vehicle is registered either using the name or the number plate number. The member is supposed to quote either of the above to the Controller on duty.

Step 2: The Controller will then check through their database using RAOS, (Road Angels Operating Software) the membership database system where all membership information is stored.

Step 3: The controller will identify the vehicle in the system and will despatch a Rescuer to the client.

Step 4: Should the client’s car not be identified within the database for a number of reasons, such as a wrong vehicle plate

number being quoted or membership payment has not yet reflect-ed in the system or the broker has not forwarded the details of the member to Road Angels, the client will still be assisted. Not being a member does not impede any assistance. The client will be served, but instead of the vehicle being delivered to a preferred address, it will be stored at the Road Angels premises until payment has been made or membership verified. In the event that it is later discovered that the client’s car was indeed registered in the system but wrong details had been supplied, the car will be promptly delivered to the client’s preferred address. If the client has already paid the towing fee, this will either be duly refunded to the client or credited for the next job. In essence, every driver whose car breaks down or is involved in an accident is not left stranded, but is assisted in whatev-er way is possible. Road Angels never declines to assist, service will always be rendered.

Being a Road Angels member brings peace of mind to road users. It is important to ensure that membership details are up to date.

he Kilo Kilo king award is given to the Rescuer who has attained the highest number of kilometres during rescue operations for the particular month. Initially, this was only awarded at country level until it was decided that each region should also have a Kilo Kilo king competition as this took into cognizance each region’s unique business characteris-tics. The Kilo Kilo king award has proved to be a motivational tool for the Rescuers as each strives to be the winner for each particular month. Healthy competition is also cultivated. In addition, this award does not only look at the number of kilometres attained per month but there is also a component of customer service which is also considered as it is very important that customers always come first and they are always served by efficient and polite Rescuers.

As the above incentive evolved, it was realized that there was need to recognize the Rescuer who garnered the highest revenue across all regions. This was in recognition, after careful analysis that the highest number of rescue kilometres accumulated did not necessarily equal the highest monetary value. Therefore, the Dollar Value king award was born.

The Rescuers are given a monetary bonus for their achievements. The following Rescuers were the high performers in the respective

Rainy Weatherdriving tips

s we welcome the rains during this season, there are a few hints and tips which drivers need to be aware of to ensure safe driving. This will avoid any unnecessary loss of lives or damage to vehicles.

1. Get your vehicle checkedNobody wants to be stuck on the road in the heavy rains. Drivers should ensure that tyers, windshield wipers, headlights and brakes are working well. Remember to defog windows to maximize visibility

2. Time your journeyRain will automatically slow drivers down, and it will take more time than normal to drive on slippery roads and get through traffic. It is therefore important to leave earlier than planned in order to arrive on time.

3. Drive slowlyRains make the roads wet and slippery whilst visibility is reduced. It is important to drive slowly so that one can clearly see well ahead and also not to pose danger to oneself or other road users. The rains can also cause tyres to lose traction and skid, resulting in drivers losing control of their vehicles.

4. Keep lights onVisibility is of utmost importance when one is driving in the rain. Drivers need to be able to see clearly and be seen clearly. Keeping the lights on will also help other drivers to see your vehicle and maintain a safe distance. However, do not flash a high beam straight onto an oncoming vehicle as this may blind the driver temporarily and cause an accident.

5. Maintain a minimum safe distanceMaintain a safe distance behind the car in front of you. The poor visibility and the wet road conditions require a longer braking distance than the norm. 8. Avoid driving off the roadDrivers are encouraged to take note and practice the following:• Stay on the well-paved road as much as possible. Avoid driving on loose gravel and muddy roads• If you do get stuck in a muddy patch, try not to accelerate or your car will be pushed further into the mud• Keep the steering wheel steady to avoid skidding and losing control of the vehicle• Stay clear of puddles as you do not know what lies underneath that body of water

9. Take a break if the weather worsensMotorists are advised to park their vehicles during heavy rain or a storm when visibility clearly or control your vehicle properly. Remember to switch on you hazards on so that other motorists can see your car and avoid a collision.

10. Always carry an emergency kitIn case you are stuck in the road, make sure to have the following things with you:• Road Angels contact numbers 0772122122 or 0712 122 122• Flashlight (preferably waterproof)• Umbrella or raincoat (or both)• Extra clothes• Mosquito repellent• Sturdy shoes• Power bank

SEAT BELTSWHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

do not want to wear my seat-belt- it is uncomfort able!” This is one of the statements which has been heard often. However, seat belts and vehicle passen ger safety are almost synonymous. Let us explore a bit more about their role in saving lives on the road.

When a car is involved in a collusion with another vehicle, there is a risk that the passengers in the vehicle will jerk forward violently and hit against the windscreen or the seat in front of them causing severe injuries. In extreme cases, the passengers can be thrown out of the vehicle. However, the wearing of seat belts in the vehicle greatly reduces the risks of severe injuries or loss of life. We will explore a bit more about seat belts below.

How do seat belts improve safety? When worn correctly, the seat belt greatly improves the passen-gers’ safety by ensuring that they remain restricted in their seat belts and are in an upright position. The passenger is therefore positioned correctly to benefit fully when the airbag is released due to the impact.

How does the seat belt work? The seat belt is designed so that it does not abruptly extend but slows down the movement forward of the passenger in the event of a crash. The belt has a retracting system made in such a way that the belt spool locks and stops the belt from rotating

uncontrollably when the passenger suddenly jerks forward. The passenger will be held securely in place and the speed of the movement forward is greatly reduced.

Keeping car occupants in the carTheories are abound that a seat belt will restrict the passenger unnecessarily in the event of an accident and that is better that a passenger is thrown out of a vehicle when there is a crash. Studies have shown that this is a myth. It has been proven that people who are thrown out of a vehicle are four times more likely to be killed in an accident than those who stay in the vehicle.

Can seat belts cut the person in half? This is yet another myth which has been peddled. In fact, seat belts are designed to hold the passenger down securely. The horizontal part of the seat belt holds the passenger down in the seat belt as they sit upright. The diagonal part of the seat belt holds the upper body back and keeps the body from lurching forward and hitting the dashboard or flying out of the window.

Fun factDid you know that seat belts were invented by Nils Bohlin, a Swedish engineer and inventor

Grooves Between Tire Treads What are those indents on the tires for anyway? Fact 1: Did you know they show the state of your tyres? The lowest part shows the lowest point the tyre can get. The smoother the tyres, the greater is the indication of urgency to get the tyres replaced right away.

Fact 2: The grooves in the rubber are designed to allow water to be expelled from beneath the tyre and prevent hydroplaning (skidding). The proportion of rubber to air space on the road surface directly affects the traction.

Head-restsDid you know that head rests are detachable? Your next question would be why would headrests be detachable since it will be very uncomfortable to sit on the seat without head rests supporting your head.

The real reason why you can take headrests off your seat is for health and safety reasons.

The headrest of car seats is deliberately detachable and sharp so one can use it to break the glass in the car in case of emergency. The glass in car windows is also kept easily breakable from the inside so people can get their way out of cars during an emergency situation. Remember this fact should you ever be trapped in your vehicle

Clean Cup HoldersCup holders are probably the dirtiest part of the car. No matter what happens, something falls in and it is impossible to get out. There is a simple car hack you can use by putting silicone cupcake holders in the car cup holders and take them out whenever you need to clean them. The silicone is ideal as these are washable and easy to clean. Say goodbye to dirty cup holders. The silicone also helps to keep a grip on your coffee cup, so there will be fewer spillages as one drinks their beverages on the go.

Road Angels celebrates the young, energetic and inspirational Zimba-

bwean motocross champion Tanya Muzinda who continues to

assault the status quo by thriving in a male dominated

sport, leaving the competi-tion in the dust. Born in Harare, Tanya started racing at the tender age of five, inspired by her father, a former biker. Within a year, at just six years of age Tanya became the first

female Zimbabwean motocross champion in

history.

Since entering the motor cross world, the humble and quiet Tanya Muzinda

has won numerous awards and accolades. In 2015 Tanya won the Zimbabwe Junior

Sportswoman of the Year and the Junior Sportsperson of the Year awards at the ANSA

banquet which was held at a local hotel. She also won the Zimbabwe International Women’s

Awards 2015 Sportswoman of the year held in Birmingham, England the same year. Tanya was voted Most Outstanding Youngest Female rider 65cc Class-2013 FIM Africa Motorcross of African Nations at Mulders-drift, South Africa and again went on to

become Bog Wheelers Club Best Rider of the Season that same year.

The year 2017 saw Tanya being crowned the Junior Sports Woman of the year at the Annual National

Sports Awards. A year later she was also crowned the 2018 Regional

Annual Sport Awards Africa Junior Sports Women, an event

organized by the African Union Sports Council Region 5

where she had been previously nominated. That same year, Tanya

was voted J u n i o r Sportswom-

an of the

Living on PurposeTanya Muzinda

Year in South Africa by the Africa Union Sports Council Region Five Annual Sports Awards. This year, 2020, Tanya was shortlisted for the Nickelodeon Kid of the year by Time Magazine adding to her incredible resumé and many accolades.

With all these awards and accolades Tanya refuses to be defined as just another athlete, but continues to champion humanitarianism as she shines her light on the plight of the girl child, advocating for her education. She has since been appointed Project Ambassador for European Union for Food Security in rural areas. Tanya also received a historic appointment as the Zimba-bwe-European Union Honorary Ambassador for Gender, Youth, Sports and Development, making her the young-est ambassador in the world.

It is quite clear that for Tanya the sky is the limit as she endeavors to rake in more accolades and fulfill one of her dreams- that of becoming the first female motocross athlete from Africa to reach international success, a feat that is well within her reach. Most people usually let their success get the better of them, but not Tanya. She has remained grounded and humble throughout all her success and is still very much down to earth and approachable. Through the media and her social media pages she has brought her voice to light by advocating for equality for all races and genders, sharing inspirational quotes and advice with each post. It is hard to imagine that at only 16 she has shown maturity beyond her years and has learnt to handle her fame with ease and absolute aplomb.

Tanya has no airs at all about herself and is always fully present in any situation treating each and every person with equal gravity understanding that we are all God’s children born with the same dignity and it is the duty of each and every one to uphold that. She is a strong believer in a purpose driven life, which she says is the only way to live one’s truth and be of service to humani-ty. This has been evident in her passion for giving as seen in her adoption of an orphanage in Warren Park called Nyararai Children’s home which she helps with fundraising for the children’s upkeep and educational needs. During the festive season, Tanya traditionally organizes annual Christmas celebrations for the orphans. Tanya is a true champion both on and off the track.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES FOR SUCCESSThe quality which sets one man apart from the other, the key which lifts one to every aspiration while others are caught up in mediocrity is not talent, formal

education, nor intellectual brightness- it is self-discipline. With self-discipline all things are possible. Without it, even the simplest goal can seem like an

impossible dream -Theodore Roosevelt.

Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of

that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success- Swami Vivekananda
