Your instructor asked that you research on readmission, and write a reflection journal entry.

• How will you be able to research the information online as a nurse?

• Will you use Google or scholarly journal articles?• How will you navigate on narrowing down your research topic

to better aid your search?

Steps to take:• First, ask what kind of readmission, she is talking about?

• Ask what you are suppose to be reflecting on?

• Then figure out if something you need to use is in a Google search or scholarly journal?

• And finally, what kind of publication website, academic journal should you search?

Brainstorming:The teacher said to focus on hospital readmission.

• Find out what it is?

• What might be the cause(s)?

• How will the information impact you in your nursing practice?

• Do the statistics provided scare you of your practice?

• What are the challenges?

• Are there remedies/solution?

• So far, do the solutions help?

How do you begin?• There is nothing wrong in using Google to search the meaning

of readmission or similar terms for readmission. Though some of the information obtained in Google might be different from a more reputable source of information (Booth & Donelle, 2014).

• Assume you have understood the term and have derived personal meaning from it.

• It is ok for you to use a publication website like CINAHL and/or Medline

• For students at Fanshawe use the Fanshawe library to access it.

• The next slides will work you through on how to navigate the site.

First go on Google• Type Fanshawe College in the search button.• Go to student services – click on library and virtual library• A screen like this will pop up:

After clicking on health sciences and nursing • Choose any database (preferably use CINAHL)

Sign in with your username and password

Then start your research• On this page click on• CINAHL heading.• This is allow you narrow your research term.

FinallyNarrow your search by clicking on “Link full text” on the left hand side. Also, click on the abstract available, and then select the date to fall within the range period.

Conclusion• The screen shot I have created is just a reminder to nurses on

how to navigate to narrow their searches and to delve into what ever their research is all about

• This process can also assist nurses in making informed decisions that will meet their reflection.

• Notice that information retrieved from CINAHL does not contain ambiguous information.

• However, it is not mandatory because Medline also carries pertinent results that are simplified to the reader.

Always remember, it is not how much knowledge and information you have as a nurse that matters, but how well you holistically apply the information within context
