From the Directors’ BoxA warm welcome to the re-named

Koolpak Stadium. We extend ourhospitality to the officials, players, staffand supporters of Harrow Borough, Ihope you enjoy your time with us, andhave a safe journey home.Well no one said playing in this leaguewas going to be easy! Two games andit’s two defeats, and if we didn’t all real-ise the challenge in this league beforethe season started we do now. But Iknow Matty and the team will be work-ing hard to turn things around as weadjust to the higher league.

Whilst the result didn’t go the way wewanted, it was great to see a crowd ofover 500 watching the match. It was alittle frantic having to cope with a largecrowd on the first home game of theseason …and on a mid-week whichmeans we’re tight for time for addedpressure! But this was one of the rea-sons why we wanted promotion, to seebigger attendances against local clubslike Dorchester & Weymouth who we’venever played in a league fixture before.

The crowd also included the WimborneMayor – Kelly Webb – and it was greatto see her taking an interest in the for-tunes of the local team. We hope towelcome Kelly back later in the season.

Off the pitch the Board, and GrahamBell our Commercial Director in particu-lar, have been working hard to increaseour commercial revenue during thesummer.

Firstly, you’ll have seen we have se-cured a fantastic five figure main spon-sorship deal from Poole basedcompany Koolpak, and we were delight-ed to welcome Martyn Bright & NeilWardle of Koolpak to the Dorchestergame. Sponsorship is the life blood ofany club at this level given that playerwages inevitably increase as you moveup the leagues, so our thanks to thedirectors and staff at Koolpak and welook forward to a successful relation-ship.In addition, the next few weeks will seeover 20 pitchside adverting boards be-ing added around the perimeter of thepitch from a range of local companieswho have agreed to support the club. We’re grateful to each of these busi-nesses for their support and to Grahamfor all the hardwork.

The home games are coming in quicksuccession at the moment with this onebeing the second of a run of four culmi-nating with the Poole Town match onBank Holiday. Like most supporters Ican’t wait, but for the moment it’s Har-row then the FA Cup …enjoy the game.

From the Dugout

Hello everyone and welcome toour home game v HarrowBorough FC, I would like to

welcome the players, staff and sup-porters of Harrow to Wimborne for thegame this afternoon.

Today’s game will be another toughtest for us, Harrow have started wellwith a very competitive game v Wey-mouth who a lot of people believe willbe at the top of the league come theend of the season and then a goodresult on Tuesday.

Our game on Tuesday night vDorchester was a real disappoint-ment. Our first half display was unlikeus and something that we need tomake sure does not happen again, allover the pitch we were guilty of notplaying to the game plan and suf-fered, Our second half performancewas a real positive and shows that wehave the character and ability to com-pete at this level.

From the two games so far it hasbeen a real mix bag of performanceswith spells in both games where wehave looked dominant, and thenspells where we are vulnerable. Thisleague is tough and for us everygame must be like a cup game.

We have been given a glorious op-portunity to enter this league and wemust make sure that we grasp this, learning from game to game will im-prove us and help us move forward.

We hope to have James Stokoe andLewis Tallack back in the squad thisafternoon after recent injuries.

We welcome our mascots today,Cameron Anderson, Annie Silk andMarley Renson, all three attended oursoccer schools this week and per-formed well, and as a treat are invitedto lead the team out today.

I hope you all enjoy the game thisafternoon.

Best wishes

Matty Holmes

Wimborne Town 2 Dorchester Town 4 - 14 Aug 2018 - Graham Dunn reportsWimborne were blown off their stride inthe first quarter of the game by a blis-tering 3-goal opening by Dorset rivalsDorchester. Another goal just beforethe interval killed the game off as acontest, but the hosts restored somesemblance of pride by scoring twice inthe second period.New signing Lewis Tallack failed a latefitness test, so Ben Walker took hisplace in manager Matty Holmes’ other-wise unchanged starting line-up.Before kick-off, there was a palpablesense of excitement and anticipationamong the crowd of 535 for Wim-borne’s first league game at Step 3 lev-el at the re-named Koolpak Stadium. However, it took the visitors just twominutes to stun the home supporters.Gerard Benfield’s wayward clearancewas seized upon by Dorchester’sswarming midfield and quickly dis-patched to Cameron Murray to score.Three minutes later Cameron Allen hada free header in Wimborne’s box buthis effort went wide of the post.Luke Holmes set up Billy Maybury for ashot on eight minutes which wasblocked, and Maybury had a 22 yardfree-kick two minutes later which isbest described as a “sighter”.But these efforts were against the runof play. Dorchester harried and hustledthe hosts all over the park, and floodedforward at speed at every opportunity. After Tom Blair had hit Benfield’s cross-bar on 12 minutes, it was no surprisewhen the dangerous Luke Winsperscored with an absolute cracker from25 yards just two minutes later. And then things got even worse forWimborne at the quarter point of the

game. Benfield made 2 sprawlingsaves in quick succession, but the alertWinsper seized on the loose ball for hissecond of the night.Dorchester spurned more good oppor-tunities before Murray set-up BillyLowes for number four on 42 minutes. Two minutes into the second period,Wimborne reduced the deficit. LukeBurbidge’s corner from the left eventu-ally fell to Sam Davidson and hisscuffed shot found the back of the net.If the home side were to get back in thegame, a second goal had to followquickly, but despite some good pas-sages of play, it didn’t come. At the oth-er end, Dorchester looked dangerouswhenever they came forward. RossCarmichael, Murray and Allen allspurning good opportunities. On 68minutes, following a Wimborne corner,Dorchester broke with breath-takingspeed before Allen shot wide.At last, on 90 minutes, Toby Holmeswas given a ball to chase by Burbidge, and the prolific striker saw off two de-fenders and the keeper to score.A better second-half showing, but con-ceding 7 goals in two games will be aconcern for manager Holmes.

Roxonian FC was founded in 1933. TheClub spent their first season in the Har-row and District League. They were ac-cepted into the Spartan League, whichcoincided with the move to Earlsmead.1938 saw Roxonian finish runners-up inDivision 2 (West) but they had to wait forpromotion until the following season, asonly the champions went up. This wasachieved under the new name of HarrowTown. War intervened though the Clubcontinued to play in, first, the West Mid-dlesex Combination, then the MiddlesexSenior League. Peace brought a returnto the Spartan League until 1958 whenrunners-up spot enabled the Club tomove to the Delphian League. 5 sea-sons were spent here, until mergers sawTown accepted into Division 2 of theAthenian League in 1963.In their first season they finished run-ners-up. However, only 3 seasons werespent in Division 1, whence a namechange to Harrow Borough coincidedwith relegation in 1967. 8 seasons wereplayed as occupants of Division 2, dur-ing which it seemed that the club mightwithdraw from senior football, and onlythe efforts of a few hardy individualskept the Club alive.Negotiations with the local council sawthe Club sell its second pitch, and builda new clubhouse, floodlights and terrac-ing. This progress was matched on thefield; Boro’ were elected to the IsthmianLeague in 1975 after having to wait ayear for the complex to be completed.Four years later they won promotion tothe Premier Division as runners-up.The early 1980s saw the Club’s mostsuccessful spell so far. The MiddlesexCharity Cup was won in 1980, the Mid-dlesex Senior Cup three years later.

Also in 1983 Harrow Borough reachedthe semi-finals of the FA Trophy, losingto the eventual winners, Telford United, over two legs.A year later, the Club’s Golden Jubileewas celebrated with a drawn matchagainst Manchester United, Harrow’sbest FA Cup run so far, losing to New-port County (then of the old FootballLeague Division 3) in the 2nd RoundProper and best of all, winning the Isth-mian League Premier Division champi-onship by a staggering 17 point margin.Under astute manager Micky Tomkys,Harrow had enjoyed continuous successbut his retirement in 1986 saw a gradualdecline in the Club’s fortunes. On threeoccasions a win in the final game ena-bled the club to retain their treasuredIsthmian Premier Division status.1992/93, however, saw a dramatic im-provement, with both the MiddlesexSenior Cup and Middlesex Charity Cupreturning to Earlsmead. A league plac-ing of 8th was also their best for 6 sea-sons. This form continued over the nextthree seasons under the managementteam of Harry Manoe, with the Club fin-ishing 9th in 1993-94, 10th 1994-95 and9th again in 1996-97. A dip in the Club’sfortunes saw his departure, to be fol-lowed by a succession of managers. Adisastrous run of form during the1999/00 season saw the Club avoid rel-egation by just a single goal.Despite an encouraging start to the sea-son to the 2000/01 season, which sawBoro’ reach the 1st Round Proper of theFA Challenge Cup for only the secondtime (losing 0-3 at Wycombe Wander-ers), a poor run of performances afterChristmas saw the Club finish 4th frombottom again with just 2 points to spare.

2001-02 saw the club commence a long-term plan, targeting youth development. As well as fielding a young side, whichmanaged to retain Premier Division sta-tus once more, close partnerships wereformed with local youth football clubs. The summer of 2004 saw the formationof an Allied Counties under 18’s squad, designed to bridge the gap betweenyouth and senior football.Under the stewardship of manager Dav-id Howell, Boro’ continued their youthand community development and theynow have links with a number of localyouth football clubs and schools.Season 2006/07 saw Boro’ finish in arelegation position only to be saved byLancaster City whose financial difficul-ties saw them being relegated instead. On a pleasanter note season 2005-06saw Boro’ win the Middlesex SeniorCharity Cup for the 3rd time with a 2-0success over Enfield Town. Season2006-07 saw the feat replicated with vic-tory over Brook House 5-4 on penaltiesfollowing a 0-0 scoreline with that gamebeing played at Staines Town FC. Sea-son 2008-09 saw Boro’ finish as Run-ners-Up in the Isthmian League Cup,losing out to Tilbury 2-0 in the Finalplayed on the ground of Staines TownFC. That season also saw Boro’ reachthe Semi Final of the London SeniorCup, a competition which they had en-tered for the first time in a considerablenumber of years.Enforced cost cutting during the summerof 2008 saw the Club resigning its mem-bership of the Allied Counties YouthLeague. This proved to be only a oneseason absence from youth team foot-ball as Boro’ entered the expanded Ry-man Youth League for the 2009-10season.

Season 2009-10 saw Boro’ finish in avery creditable 14th position in the Ry-man Premier Division, At Reserve Teamlevel Boro’s Capital League side, underthe stewardship of Stuart Crawford, brought much success to the Club bywinning the double of the CapitalLeague: Western Division Title to goalong with that of Capital League: Presi-dent’s Challenge Cup winners. Addedto the fact that Boro’ had cleared theirlongstanding debt with HM Revenue &Customs and the Club entered the 2010-11 season with new found optimism.A final position of 5th at the end of thatseason earned the Club a place in theend of season play-offs for promotion tothe Conference South. Defeat at Ton-bridge Angels in extra time in the SemiFinals saw an end for the time being ofthat dream but it was still a brilliant sea-son for the Club. They also reached the1st Round Proper of the FA Cup, losingout narrowly to the eventual League 2Champions, Chesterfield, and giving theBoro’ faithful much pleasure and enter-tainment on the way.But during the summer Boro’ receivedshock news that Manager David Howellhad decided to resign his position, takingwith him his Assistant, Ken Charlery, and the other members of his Manage-ment Team. This meant a hard sum-mer for the Boro’ Board and for newmanager Dave Anderson who returnedto the Club he had served previously asReserve Team Manager and then As-sistant Manager on three separate occa-sions. Dave added the vastlyexperienced Jason Goodliffe to his Man-agement Team and with a completelynew team on the pitch a final league po-sition of 17th was very acceptable afterwhat was a very difficult season.

The summer of 2012 saw the experi-enced Darron Wilkinson join the Man-agement Team and a gradualimprovement on the pitch saw Boro’ fin-ish in a very creditable 15th place. The summer of 2013 saw AssistantManager Jason Goodliffe depart to takeup a similar position at Football LeagueDivision 1 side Stevenage with MarkFaulkner replacing him on the Manage-ment Team. Off the field an importantaddition was The Axis Group who be-came the Club’s new Main Sponsors.A disastrous run of form however sawDave Anderson and Mark Faulkner leav-ing the Club towards the end of January2015 with Steve Baker formerly of Chip-stead FC taking over at the helm. Hebrought with him Jesse Smith in the roleof Assistant Manager and retained theservices of the popular Darron Wilkinsonin a 3 man Management Team with theaim of retaining the Club’s long held Pre-mier Division status. This was achievedin magnificent style with the side pickingup 28 points from the remaining 15league games and finishing the seasonin 16th position. In addition they wonboth the Middlesex Senior Cup - defeat-ing Hanwell Town 1-0 in the final whichwas played at Hampton & RichmondBorough - and the Middlesex SeniorCharity Cup - defeating Cockfosters 3-0with that game being played at Earls-mead.The 2015-16 season saw Boro’ finish ina comfortable 17th position havingpicked up 54 points from the 46 gamesplayed. The 2016-17 season began on a highnote for Boro’ and a tremendous run inThe FA Cup saw the side reach the 1stRound Proper of the competition and an

away draw against League 1 side North-ampton Town. A 6-0 reverse saw theend of that adventure for another sea-son.Unfortunately a run of poor results dur-ing late March and April saw the Clubfinish in a relegation position only for theplight of Worcester City to see Boro’ re-prieved for a second time in 11 years. The 2017-18 season started brightlyenough and Boro’ topped the leaguebriefly but a period of struggle followed, lasting into early January. Following aseries of internal meetings changeswere made to the playing squad and thislead to a significant improvement in per-formances and an eventual 12th positionin the League Table. Then came the announcement all at TheRogers Family Stadium had feared forsome little while – as part of the restruc-turing of The Non League Pyramid Boro’were to be transferred to the SouthernFootball League along with Hendon,Metropolitan Police, Staines Town andnewly promoted Walton Casuals. TheClub and its supporters decided to em-brace this change in a very positivemanner and we all now look forward to anew season in a new league with re-newed confidence. The summer of 2018 also saw everyoneat Harrow take great pride in the selec-tion of our former goalkeeper Nick Popeto the England World Cup squad. Whenhe made his England debut against Cos-ta Rica he became the first ex-Harrowplayer to win a full international cap forEngland.

A woeful Langley performance sawthem chasing a lost cause from as earlyas the ninth minute, when a free kickjust outside the box by full back GeorgeMoore beat Garry Malone although thekeeper had seemed to have had it cov-ered.Callum Adebiyi’s attempt to reprise hislast minute goal of the previous matchran along the crossbar four minuteslater, but it was a brief respite, as thered tide of Boro’ attacks finally bore fruitwhen Bayley Brown found it all tooeasy to cut in from the right and riflehome at the near post.A shell-shocked Langley hung on grim-ly as the match entered the doldrums, with the only further incidents of notebeing saves from Malone and HafedAl-Droubi from Lynton Goss and Mitch-ell Weiss respectively. The second half was only two minutesold when George Moore madeprogress down the wing, beat CallumAdebiyi and fired an audacious shotinto the far corner to effectively settlethe match. When the other full back, Ryan Haugh, placed an ordinary shot through de-fence and keeper, Kings looked to beheading for a rout, but to their creditthey fought back to trouble the visiting

defence for virtually the first time. AnAlan Fleming shot was well held, Cal-lum Adebiyi and the newly introducedEdu Toiny-Pendred had successiveshots blocked by desperate defending,Dean Hitchcock’s effort was just pastthe post and an Arjun Jung header wassaved.Reward finally came in the eightiethminute when a testing Jacob Cook cor-ner glanced off the head of visiting skip-per Ryan Moss to reduce the deficit, although it was of little consolation as aKings player had still to get his nameon the scoresheet. At the other end, Harrow nearly re-stored the four goal advantage, but abrave double block from Garry Maloneand then another from Jorell Johnsonnullified the threat.Weiss and Edu were now asking ques-tions of the Boro’ defence and it wasfrom the former’s cross that a powerfulheader from Jacob Cook flew past thekeeper to give the scoreline a sem-blance of respectability. However, It could do little to lift the spir-its of the home supporters and the factthat the sponsor felt unable to nominatea Kings Langley man-of-the-matchprobably summed up an unsettlingevening.

Wimborne Town was formed in 1878 and became a founder member of the DorsetCounty FA in 1887.In the 1930’s the Club won the Dorset Division Two title three times, the Dorset JuniorChallenge Cup twice and the Dorset Junior Amateur Cup four times.Wimborne’s first senior honour came in 1937 with the Dorset Senior Amateur Cup, afeat not repeated until 1964. In 1981, Wimborne won the Dorset League Division Onechampionship without losing a match. The same year, Wimborne joined the WesternLeague and finished third in Division One in 1984/85.Wimborne joined the Wessex League in 1987 and so began a glittering chapter in theClub’s history. Over the following 22 years they won the Wessex League three times(1991/2, 1993/93 & 1999/00) and lifted the Wessex League Cup in 1993/94 to becomethe first team to achieve the League and Cup double. They repeated that feat in1999/00 and also won the Dorset Senior Challenge Cup in 1991/92 and 1996/97.Wimborne also have a history of achievement in FA competitions. In 1982/83, theyreached the FA Cup First Round where they played Aldershot, then a league side. Thedream ended there, however, with a 4-0 defeat. And in 1992, the Club reached the FA Vase final, becoming the first Dorset club to playat Wembley. Under manager Alex Pike, the Magpies lifted the trophy with a 5-3 winover holders Guiseley. That same season, Wimborne also won the Dorset Senior Chal-lenge Cup and Wessex League championship to complete an historic treble triumph.2009/10 was another milestone for the Magpies as they gained promotion to the South-ern League for the first time in the Club’s history. After a difficult first two seasons Wim-borne, became established in the league finishing mid table and gaining more pointseach season. In 2014/15, after a run of 4 victories, the Magpies reached the FA Trophy first roundproper for the first time in the club’s history. A 3-0 home defeat by Oxford City of theConference North ended the excitement.A disappointing start to the 2015/16 season led to Steve Cuss resigning as Manager inNovember. Club stalwart Paul Roast took over as caretaker boss before Simon Brownewas appointed as Manager, During this time new Directors came on board, but “duediligence” of the finances uncovered a large deficit. Despite the playing budget beingslashed, and most of the squad leaving, relegation was avoided. Off the field, a greateffort led to the financial position being resolved. For the 2016/17 season there was renewed optimism with a new Board in place. MattyHolmes took over as Manager, and assembled a strong but young squad whichachieved our then highest position in the Southern League of 11th.Holmes and his team improved on that in 2017-18, finishing 3rd on 77 points, havingscored over 100 goals, and winning the Dorset Senior Cup for the first time in 21 yearsalong the way. The euphoria of those achievements were muted by a play-off final de-feat by Swindon Supermarine in a penalty shoot-out. However, the restructuring ofleagues at Steps 3 and 4, and the demise of Shaw Lane FC led to a late promotion forWimborne as the highest performing team not already promoted. This means that for2018-19 the Magpies will be playing at Step 3 for the first time in their history.

Brackley Town lifted the 2018 Build-base FA Trophy in dramatic style fol-lowing a penalty shoot-out victory overBromley at Wembley. The National League North outfit cameback from the brink of defeat in 90 min-utes, as captain Gareth Dean equalisedin the dying seconds of stoppage timeto take the game to extra time. And they held their nerve during theshoot-out, with Andy Brown calmly slot-ting home after Bromley skipper JackHolland had clipped the post with hisattempt in the first round of suddendeath. It’s a first FA Trophy title for the Mid-lands-based club, who looked downand out after spurning a string ofchances to equalise before the late dra-ma.A first-half strike from Omar Bugiel hadput Bromley on course for victory, butBrackley’s strong show after the breakmeant extra time was the least theydeserved. But an equaliser in the dying secondsof second-half stoppage time fromBrackley captain Gareth Dean sawthem draw deservedly level to take thisgame the distance.Bugiel’s opener came within 20 min-utes, after a piercing run from AdamMekki from just inside the Brackley half.He slid a pass into the Lebanese inter-national and he did the rest by firing alow shot past Danny Lewis to break thedeadlock.Bromley almost doubled their lead sev-en minutes later when George Porter’svolley in the area was well saved by

Lewis as the National League sidelooked to take advantage.Brackley weren’t without their chancesthough with Matt Lowe proving a nui-sance for Bromley full-back TyroneSterling down the right and at times, itwas hard to tell there’s a division be-tween the two teams. And James Armson was so close tobringing Brackley level early in the sec-ond half when he rolled a low left-footernarrowly wide of the post as they en-joyed their best spell of the game.Armson came even closer just beforethe hour mark when he struck a shotagainst the base of the post after agoalmouth scramble and then Bromleykeeper David Gregory had to make asmart save to block Adam Walker’s an-gled shot. And the chances kept falling to Arm-son, as Glenn Walker’s pull-backpicked him out with the goal at his mer-cy soon after that but the midfielderfired high and wide.Bromley keeper Gregory was perform-ing heroics to try and keep his team inthe game, but with just seconds left instoppage time, Brackley’s pressurepaid off. After a string of corners had been de-fended, Lowe’s shot from the edge ofthe box through a crowd of playersbounced back off the post and Deanwas there to tap home and take thegame to extra time. With the teams out of steam in the en-suing 30 minutes, it was down to spot-kicks as Brackley ran out heroes to gettheir name on the Trophy.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a videothat reminded me of why Non-Leaguefootball increasingly appeals to somany people. The first half of the footage sees Liver-pool’s squad, and manager JurgenKlopp, boarding their team coach in2017 doing their best to ignore support-ers standing only yards away with theirarms outstretched clutching replicashirts for the players to sign. Now, before this becomes an attack onLiverpool, it is worth nothing that this islargely the same squad and managerwho travelled to relegated Chester inpre-season, and respected their oppo-nents by fielding an XI in each half thatwouldn’t have looked out of place in aPremier League fixture. The match attracted a crowd of over4000, securing vital funds for the Na-tional League side. Klopp has done thesame in recent seasons with visits toTranmere. The video also conveniently cuts shortbefore Daniel Sturridge and James Mil-ner stop for fans – most of the 1.1 mil-lion people who saw this video won’thave known these facts, although thatis no excuse for the other Reds playerand their manager.

In the second half of the video, there isa striking contrast. At Preston station, on the way backfrom their opening day defeat at AFCFylde, Bromley players secured the Na-tional League club a supporter for life.James, who looks no older than five orsix, decked out in Bromley shirt, isstood on the pavement being intro-duced to every Ravens player with ahandshake by captain Jack Holland asthey step off the team coach.James’ face as each of his heroesgreets him is a picture. The video lastsfor just 28 seconds but that is all takesto create a lifelong memory. It was a timely reminder as the seasonstarted of the inclusivity of Non-Leaguefootball – the reason myself and manyothers watch this level. It’s being able to chat to your team’sstar striker before, and even during, thewarm-up or afterwards in the club bar. It’s being able to ask the manager overa pint why the two wingers swap sides. It’s doing ‘your bit’ for your club to helpthe cogs turning. So well done to Bromley and Non-League for keeping things real. Footballis just a game but let’s keep the experi-ence fun, inclusive and enjoyable.

What's your football playing history?I’m 17yrs old and have previouslyplayed for my local team Burton YouthFootball club from U6’s to U15’s in mostpositions including Goalkeeper andStriker becoming the club’s top goalscorer and was Captain and Players’Player for each year. And always Cap-tained my Highcliffe School team and aperiod with AFCB academy.Represented Dorset county in everyyear group, where I was asked by TerryWateridge to play Centre Back, afterplaying striker for previous two yearsand at 14years old to join his Star Soc-cer U16’s team in Div1 City of South-ampton league. After one year of playingup an age group, Terry moved me in hisU18s Star Soccer Team at the age of 16and became Captain.I was then asked to play for WimborneDevelopment team still aged 16.I have now played a season with Wim-borne Development team and supportedthe U18’s Team. This year I was alsoallowed to play 1st Team for SturminsterFC to prepare me for the new season, which was a great experience and Ihope to have more opportunities to play1st team football this season.2017/18 Development teams “Most Im-proved Player” award. What position do you prefer to play in?I love playing in the Centre Back posi-tion and making those crucial challengesand help manage the game. However, Ido also enjoy playing Striker, using my6ft 3” height, strength and experience todominate the opposition’s defence, help-ing my Team to win. What's the best game you've played in?Burton Youth vs Gosport FC in theHampshire. We went 2-0 down immedi-ately and then bought it back to 2-2.

Then we went 4-2 down to come backand score in the last minute to win 5-4.The best game I have ever played inbecause of the passion and commitmentshown by every player in the Team andthe feeling accomplished at the finalwhistle. We became its most successful BurtonTeam in the Club’s history and wantedto continue the run…Tell us about your best goal or tackleWhen I was playing for Burton in my fi-nal season we always had a grudgematch against Bournemouth Electric. The game finished 1-1 with me steppingup from centre back to score a free kickfrom 42yards straight into the top leftcorner, just off the cross bar. However, I would say my favourite mo-ment took place during my first evergame as a centre back which took placein U14’s county trials. The striker – soonto become the county striker - brokethrough the back 4 and I had to put asliding challenge in as I was the lastman. At speed I timed it to perfectionand came out with the ball at my feet. Atthat moment I realised how I could enjoybeing centre back. What was the first live game you canremember going to?My first live game was Chelsea vs New-castle which resulted in me seeing thebest goal I have seen to date with a fan-tastic goal from Cisse. Although it result-ed with Chelsea losing, it was stillmemorable. What did you learn from watching the2018 World Cup?I learnt how important set-pieces can beand how they can literally win games foryou. 45% of goals were scored from setplays. and the free kicks helped the youngEngland Lions’ progress. This is definitely something I would liketo practise both defensively and alsoattacking! What's the best advice you've beengiven about playing? To relax and to stay disciplined with myrole on the pitch. I always wanted to doeverything on the pitch and win everyball in every 50/50 often resulting inlong injuries. Terry’s good friend theManager of Malta, called JJ, took meto the side and explained what tacklesneed to be won and where and when. Itook his advice which has improved mygame and reduced my injuries. This is my 1st season injury free, apartfrom breaking my nose twice which isnot a problem. What's your top "keepy-uppy" score?370 however, I’m confident on achiev-ing more. What other sports do you play?

I enjoyed playing competitive Rugbyand also Volleyball, winning regionalCups in both. But had to give up Rug-by to focus on my Football and reducethe risk of injuries.Five favourites: Team - Chelsea Player – John Terry tech gadget – PlayStation 4 singer – Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley film – Forrest GumpPlease tell us a little-known fact aboutyourselfI’m still in full-time education but alsowork part time at the 5-star ChewtonGlen Hotel as a waiter where I regular-ly meet many celebrities and people ofsignificance. “Before every game, I pause on the con-course in front of the West Stand at Stam-ford Bridge and buy a programme - to thebafflement of my teenage son, whoseems to understand neither the expense(£3) nor the perverse delay that this actimposes on our entry into the stadium. But for how much longer? The EFL is con-sidering removing the rule that makes itobligatory for clubs to print a programme.Uncertain times, then, for the “match-daymagazine”. That phrase was coined in the1970s, denoting the medium’s shift fromdry fact sheet to glossy promotional bro-chure, although, thankfully, nobody hasever used the term in conversation. Thatsaid, I have noticed my son occasionallyrefer to it as a magazine. “Why do you stillbuy a magazine?” He asks. “It’s a pro-gramme,” I say. “And I don’t know.”Not, surely, for the manager’s platitudes(”We know they’ll make it difficult for usthis afternoon, but with your support …”),nor the biweekly tumbleweed that is theCaptain’s Notes (”Another chance to pickup three points today …”). Not for the4team sheet, either, which we know beforewe reach the ground. My son reads it outoff his phone. For the stats then, and the name of thereferee? Perhaps, occasionally. But thisstuff, too, is readily available elsewhere. And, as my son knows, the typical destinyof my £3 programme is to end up largelyunread on the floor of the car.But it’s history, isn’t it? Once upon a time,I was a collector who saw programmes asthe vital proof of your presence at amatch. In that period, I knew the struggleto get them home in mint condition - a fargreater challenge in the days before all-seater stadiums. I knew, too, an itchysense of incompleteness on the rare oc-casions when they were unavailable.

Indeed, I was a collector long before Iwent to matches. As a child, stranded andyearning in the provinces, I sent Chel-sea’s club shop a stream of self-ad-dressed envelopes and postal orders for5p, and received programmes by return. In the 1973-74 season, I went unbeaten -assembled by post, a complete set of pro-grammes for games I hadn’t been to, andstored them in the “official club binder”,which was a glorified cardboard wallet butof which I was fiercely enamoured andwhich is now proudly housed in a box inthe attic.Programmes then were the literary gate-way to a treasured but largely closedworld, and rare shafts of enlightenmentlay in the answers to the “player ques-tionnaire”. How else would I have known(and continue to know) that John Hol-lins’s favourite meal was roast beef, withthe Yorkshire pudding consumed first asan appetiser? Or that if Steve Kemberruled the world he would “bring backhanging”?You have to take the point about socialmedia potentially eroding these benefits.Nowadays if a player had an unusualYorkshire pudding habit or an interest inrestoring capital punishment you wouldprobably know about it from their Insta-gram feed.Yet it’s a twitch that won’t rest, the ghost-feeling in a lost limb, the sense that thisritual is still a key part of the whole. If pro-grammes died out, I would be sad. Evensadder than I occasionally catch myselffeeling at the seller’s stand on the con-course, queuing with coins in hand, mygrown-up sons lingering scornfully. If youhaven’t bought a programme, have youreally been to the game?”

Without a programme, is there a game?Giles Smith - “The Times” Sport, 2 May 2018,

Dorset Dave’s Chuckle Corner

Harrow is a large suburban town innorthwest London. Harrow's namecomes from the Old English hearg ="(heathen) temple", which was probablyon the hill of Harrow, where St. Mary'sChurch stands today. Harrow is home tothe large University of Westminster cam-pus, and Harrow Public School.

So here are some examples of what stu-dents put in their exam papers:-"When you breath, you inspire. Whenyou do not breath, you expire.""H2O is hot water, CO2 is cold water""When you smell an odorless gas, it isprobably carbon monoxide"Water is composed of two gins, Oxyginand Hydrogin. Oxygin is pure gin. Hy-drogin is gin and water.""Three kinds of blood vessels are arter-ies, vanes and caterpillars.""Respiration is composed of two acts, first inspiration, and then expectoration.""The moon is a planet just like the earth, only it is even deader.""Dew is formed on leaves when the sun shinesdown on them and makes them perspire.""A super-saturated solution is one thatholds more than it can hold.""Mushrooms always grow in damp plac-es and so they look like umbrellas.""The body consists of 3 parts- the brain-ium, the borax and the abominable cavi-ty. The brainium contains the brain, theborax contains the heart and lungs, andthe abominable cavity contains the bow-els, of which there are 5 - a, e, i, o, & u.""The pistol of a flower is its only protec-tions against insects."

"The alimentary canal islocated in the northernpart of Scotland.""The skeleton is what isleft after the insideshave been taken out andthe outsides have been taken off. Thepurpose of the skeleton is something tohitch meat to."The tides are a fight between the Earthand moon. All water tends towards themoon, because there is no water in themoon, and nature abhors a vacuum. Iforget where the sun joins in this fight.""A fossil is an extinct animal. The older itis, the more extinct it is.""Equator: An imaginary lion runningaround the Earth through Africa.""Germinate: To become a naturalizedGerman.""Magnet: Something you find crawling allover a dead cat.""Momentum: What you give a personwhen they are going away.""Planet: A body of Earth surrounded by sky.""Rhubarb: A kind of celery gone bloodshot.""Vacuum: A large, empty space wherethe Pope lives."

"For a nosebleed: Put the nose much lowerthen the body until the heart stops."

"To keep milk from turning sour: Keep itin the cow."

And Dave’s limerick:-There was a gravedigger from HarrowWho once dug a grave far too shallowWhen it came to the coffinThe Vicar was frothin'Cos he'd also dug it too narrow.
