• Birth is the most emotional, dramatic and awe inspiring

• Birth is a familiar affair, and the reproductive health of the total family is the cornerstone on which a healthy society rests

• Nursing care of mother and infant includes not only anatomical and physiological adaptations to human reproduction but also of human growth and development complex, interdependent relationships to the total society
