Project Phases

Current MIS

• Identification of basic and most critical reporting needs that are already met by an alternate MIS tool.

• Reorganize the Dashboards to provide direct access to these critical reports

• This prevented overflow of information and impacted the pain points directly

Custom Reports

• This phase involved customizing some of the existing reports to meet the information needs of the client . These changes were sometimes cosmetic and at other places inline with the extensions and customizations that the client had in its ERP system.

Insight - Beyond the current MIS

• In this phase we have introduced reports that provide very interesting insight into the clients business, however these information was not currently a part of the client’s MIS , like the 80-20 analysis, Performance Reports etc.

New Concepts

• The next phase will be introduction of MIS which will present an altogether different concept of management than what the client has now, like the various new Ratios , Water Fall, etc.

Deployment

Requirement Gathering And Analysis

• Demonstration of the Seeded Reports for the Procurement , Spend , Supply

Chain Management Functional areas.

• Understanding the existing configuration for KFSH as organization in ERP

and analyzing usage of various important KFFs and DFFs. Cost Center setup,

Item Category Setup etc.

• Changing the seeded reports according to client requirement which can be

achieved without major customization.

• Gathering requirements which are not covered by seeded reports and

studying existing reports used by client.

• Analyzing the requirements and check their feasibility.

First Step - Configuration

Oracle BI Server Installation

Informatica And DAC Installation And Configuration

OLAP Database Setup

The Basic step of setting up an OBIEE environment for the client consisted of :

• Installing Oracle BI Server 11.1.1.5 on a

Linux 64-Bit Server

• Setting up Informatica and DAC tools

– Creating Informatica Repository

Service

– Creating Informatica Service

– Configuring DAC Subject Areas

according to the Business

•Creating an OLAP Database

– Oracle Database 11g Installation

– Extract, Load and Transfer of data

(ETL)

– Validating the data

Solution Design And Implementation

• Design solution on the basis of complexity:-

– Taking reports which require low level customizations, which includes RPD changes on BI Administration tool and/or configuration changes on DAC and Informatica, first and adding it to dashboards.

– Making high level customizations , which includes changing Informatica components for adding new columns to the seeded tables in Data warehouse. This brings in information which is not available in the standard Informatica workflows.

• Major Custom Report Categorizations :

– Procurement Performance

– Spend Analysis

– Supply Chain Analysis

– Inventory Analysis

– Supply Chain Planning

• Creating 16 Dashboard pages in various business areas of Procurement, Spend,

Supply Chain and Inventory Planning.

• Oracle has around 350 Seeded reports in Procurement and Supply Chain Analytics

• Customization of 54 reports as per the client business requirements which consists

of development of KPIs for effective Supply Chain Management for better

management of Inventory, which includes life saving drugs and equipments,

Inventory Planning for the organization to reduce their on hand quantity and cost

and also reduce wastage, Procurement Performance for having numbers that give

the view of growth and pits in the purchasing cycle and performance of the staff in

buying and planning.

Solution Design And Implementation (Contd.)

Challenges Faced

• Item Category Hierarchy as per the United Nations Classification

• Bringing Unavailable fields into the BI RPD file e.g. :- UNSPSC Category Code and

Title

• Developing the KPIs for Inventory Trend over the years.

• Creating the perfect formulas on the Custom OBIEE Fact Columns.

• Validating the Customized reports .

• Training Administrative staff Informatica customization.

• Training Users to customize & develop reports.

UNSPSC Category Segment

• e.g. Drugs & Pharma

UNSPSC Category Family

• e.g. Hematolic drugs, Anti infective drugs
