Oral-B Triumph: Most Advanced Toothbrush Ever?

The toothbrush is one of those inventions that dont need any improvement. Yes, you

can put a motor on it to make it work faster, and Reach has spent a lot on R&D andmarketing to show that their toothbrushes are more advanced. In all honesty, theOral-B Triumph has got to be the most advanced toothbrush that Ive seen, and Idont see how you could improve toothbrushes after this.

After all, how many toothbrushes come with a handheld display that is wirelesslysynced to the toothbrush itself? This is what the Smart Guide display is designed todo, and the user holds it in his or her hand while he or she brushes.

The Smart Guide times the brushing, and it is recommended that you brush with theTriumph for about two minutes. You can adjust the speed settings for cleaning, massaging, polishing, and sensitive care. There is an indicator on the Smart Guidethat lets you know the setting, and a warning light in case you are brushing too hard.

I got a chance to try out this product, and I will highly recommend it. Ive written moreabout it here, and you can purchase the product on the official site here. The site haslinks to online retail sites like Best Buy and Amazon, the price varies depending onwhere you buy it from, but the maximum price is not over $150.

If it's impossible for a race car to be "good" for the environment, maybe it can at least be a little friendlier. Meet the WorldFirst F3project, a Formula 3 race car developed at England's University ofWarwick: it has carrot fibers in its steering wheel, potato starch in its

side mirrors and cashew-nut shells in its brake pads. The wholething runs on a biodiesel mix of chocolate and vegetable oil.

In a small effort to make the car even greener than it already is, thedesigners coated the radiator in a substance that converts ozoneemissions into oxygen

The Image Mill is an architectural projection produced andperformed, in Quebec City, by Robert Lepage and Ex Machina.Representing the largest projection ever done, it requires the use offine technology to project a huge quantity of images and films on thegrain silos of the Quebec Harbour, an oversized screen, 600 meterswide by 30 meters high! In the hands of the creators, this huge massof concrete is in constant transformation, which gives us the strangeimpression of it being alive and talking to us. The R/P FLIP (Floating Instrument Platform)The R/P FLIP (Floating Instrument Platform), nicknamed the Flip ship is designed topartially sink so that it tips vertically and half submerges, with bulkheads becomingfloors. The platform houses instrumentation for monitoring weather data etc. FLIPwas created more than 40 years ago by two Scripps scientists, Drs. Fred Fisher andFred Spiess. They needed a more quiet, stable place than a research ship to studyhow sound waves behave under water.

    Flip Ship

All the living and working areas are in the top part of FLIP.Most of the bottom is empty compartments. When these arefilled with air, FLIP floats in its horizontal position. When theyare filled with seawater (which is heavier than air) the lower300 feet of FLIP sink under the water and the lighter endrises. Twenty-eight minutes later, FLIP stands vertically, and

its working areas have risen as much as five stories into theair. During the flip, everyone stands on the outside decks. AsFLIP flips, these decks slowly become bulkheads. (This is thename sailors use for walls.) The crew step onto decks thatwere, only moments before, bulkheads. Inside, decks havebecome bulkheads; bulkheads have become decks or

overheads (ceilings). Some of FLIP's furnishings are built so they can rotate to anew position as FLIP flips. Other equipment must be unboltedand moved. Some things, like tables in the galley (kitchen)and sinks in the washroom, are built twice so one is always inthe correct position.

As far as the desk accessories go, the IFO 3000 is as good as itgets. The base unit will levitate a number of small objects, soldseparately as accessories for the base. From the ubiquitouslevitating globe to a clock, picture frame and color-changing sphere, the add-ons are pretty impressive. TRM - Tactical Throwable Robot

PIAP the Polish Industrial Research Institute for Automation andMeasurements have made a new product, the TRM - Tactical ThrowableRobot. TRM is a small, robotic device designed for delivering support inapplications aiding in anti-terrorist operations. The TRM can be thrown intoa structure or into the area of operation.

The TRM is composed of a pipe-shaped body which houses a camera and

a microphone. The drive capability is supplied by two elastic, rubber wheelswhich are located on each side of the robot. The TRM can be thrown into astructure or into the area of operation into open ground from a significantdistance and steered by a remote control in order to perform an inspectionof the area. The TRM construction is designed to withstand impact from ahigh altitude.

    Robot known as "Cody"

The elderly and people with disabilities often have trouble with daily

activities, like folding laundry, getting groceries, and even maintainingpersonal hygiene. Robots that can put away clean dishes orsort laundrymay aid people enough to let them maintain an independent lifestyle forlonger in their homes or help ease some of the burden of hospital orassisted-living workers. Now Cody has added another task to robots'repertoire of personal assistance tasks: wiping down a person too

bedridden or injured to bathe themselves. A bed bath--where a nurse or family member uses a soapy sponge to clean

off a patient's skin--can be an awkward social situation and make a patientfeel uncomfortable. Instead, a human operator can tell Cody what parts ofthe patient's body to clean. Cody uses a camera and laser range finderabove its torso to gather data before autonomously cleaning the area.

A camera then feeds the information to a microprocessor which, in turn, commands the robot's arm to wipe the selected area, which it swabs first.

In tests conducted by Georgia Tech's Healthcare Robotics Lab, Cody usedimage processing to determine the hue of the "debris"
