Nurses update Professional Practice Model that guides careNursing practice is always evolving, with new knowledge and a dynamic healthcare environment. Nurses at Greenwich, Bridgeport and Yale-New Haven hospitals have updated the

professional practice model (PPM) that represents excellence in nursing practice and patient outcomes.

In the center of the model, the heart illustrates Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring and patient- and family-centered care. A globe signifies patient diversity and the figures represent the community of nursing. The pillars are the foundation of YNHHS nurses’ values: professional

development, quality and safety, healing environment and practice excellence.

Among the new elements is the statement: “Achieving outcomes through autonomy and accountability.” “This statement underscores the critical role each and every nurse plays in improving the lives of our patients by taking an active role in their practice,” said Brown.

Magnet Jeopardy! The Professional Development Council organized a fun Magnet education activity during the month of January 2016 with Magnet Jeopardy. This traveling roadshow made the rounds on day and night shifts, as well as to the off-site departments to engage staff in learning about Magnet. The staff played the game to “win” candy. At the end of this month long initiative, there was a raffle drawing for $25 Visa gift cards. Congratulations to our gift card winners:

Nursing Excellence RecognitionNine nurses were advanced to the Clinical Resource Nurse Role. The nurses are role models for exemplary professional practice; act as a resource for other staff members on their unit and their nurse manager, and mentor and coach their colleagues.
