The year was 1989, an aspiring young musician by the name of Lance Harvill was returning home to Dallas after graduating from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood with a burning desire to start a band of his own. He quickly enlisted the help of former classmate Mike Morgan, John Luke Hebert and David Harbour – both of whom would eventually join CHASTAIN and KING DIAMOND.

After rehearsals, selecting the moniker MANTA RAY, the group entered the famous Dallas Sound Lab Studios (PANTERA, RIGOR MORTIS) studio and laid down four tracks they hoped would land them a record deal. Despite the extremely professional demo the band found themsMelves caught within a transitioning time in the industry and ultimately no deal was found. This Dallas Sound Lab session has been buried for over 20 years.

The metal scene may have been experiencing a downward trajectory during the early 90’s as far as consumption was concerned, but that didn’t stop hundreds, even thousands of bands around the world from attempting to carry the torch onward. Long Island’s FIRSTRIKE was one of those bands releasing two impressive demos; 1992’s Deadly Voltage and 1990’s Agony Pit during a time when many metal fans were falling by the way side.

FIRSTRIKE could easily have been part of the Shrapnel Records roster as their brand of thrash influenced power metal is not for the faint of heart. FIRSTRIKE delivered thunderous rhythms, soaring vocals alongside six string acrobatics that would have given Paul Gilbert or David Chastain a serious run for their money. This band was no joke, but unfortunately arriving just too late to be given the chance they needed to succeed.

Guitarist/Vocalist, David Clemmons, is possibly best known in the metal world as a key member of progressive upstarts, DAMN THE MACHINE, but before hooking up with the Poland brothers he had a remarkable project all unto himself. Essentially, MINISTERS OF ANGER was a two man wrecking crew as David had partnered up with former MURDERCAR band mate Dave McClain (SACRED REICH, MACHINE HEAD) in 1988 to help record drums on his demo. The duo wound up cranking out two demos, both engineered by Joe Floyd (WARRIOR).

The first demo from 1988 went unnoticed but the second, Renaissance, released in 1990 is what really caught people’s attention. Not full on thrash metal, but not quite eccentric enough to be considered progressive MINISTERS OF ANGER fell somewhere into a grey area it would have seemed. Some might believe this to be an unfortunate place to find themselves, but what it really reveals is a band that was not afraid to take risks and ultimately was far ahead of the rest of the pack even if the appropriate accolades of the masses never came.

SAVAGE CHOIR was originally formed in the early ‘80s, but changed their name to DEATHMASK and released a single album, Split the Atom, in 1986. Soon after it was issued, the band fell victim to record label woes and legal troubles which eventually caused a fracture between its members.

Vocalist Steve Ferrigno eventually rallied the remaining troops and reformed SAVAGE CHOIR, bringing on board a 17-year-old shredder named Guy Capuzzo. Together they ventured toward uncharted territories not only musically, but thematically, with Ferrigno penning lyrics to what would become an epic-styled concept album entitled, Winter of Probator.

SAVAGE CHOIR had recorded and demoed nine of the ten planned songs for the album, when out of nowhere, the group abruptly disbanded. The Winter of Probator demos have been buried since that time, with absolutely no mention of the album or that era of the band anywhere.

This Divebomb Bootcamp reissue finally allows SAVAGE CHOIR’s epic concept album to see the release it has always deserved. As you’ll agree, the fact that Winter of Probator sat in the vaults for over two decades is a crime against forward-thinking heavy metal.

GROSS REALITY’s origins go as far back as 1991 when Daniel Powell (bass/vocals) and Jason Wheeler (drums) bonded over their mutual affinity for all things thrash metal. During the group’s initial stages the line-up was never in-synch until guitarists’ Roland Arthur and Shawn McCoy both joined their ranks. Once GROSS REALITY’s core was solidified into a unified unit, the group gigged around North and South Carolina, opening for acts such as CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE, BOLT THROWER, UNLEASHED, and local faves, CONFESSOR.

In 1996, with the metal scene on the ropes, GROSS REALITY decided to call it a day. Normally, when a band throws in the towel they have a musical legacy they’ve left behind in some recorded form, but shockingly, GROSS REALITY never got a chance to release any recordings.

Divebomb Records is changing that now.

Reforming in 2009, GROSS REALITY quickly cleaned off the cobwebs and jumped right back into the fray, supporting the likes of DEATH ANGEL, EVILE and BONDED BY BLOOD. However, not wanting to repeat the errors of their youth, the band enlisted world renowned producer, and North Carolina native, Jamie King to oversee their long overdue debut album, Overthrow. Nearly 25 years in the making (or waiting depending on your perspective) GROSS REALITY delivers a relentlessly high-octane blast of thrash metal. The country is Sweden, the year is 1999 and four friends, all with a mutual love for The X-Files, and the classic works of AGENT STEEL, decide to start a band. THE HIDDEN took shape and immediately began work on a demo inspired by all things paranormal.

This extremely rare and underground demo made its way through very select circles while simultaneously generating an intense buzz within the industry, naturally, landing them a record deal. Now, it was no secret that THE HIDDEN liked to dabble in all sorts of taboo subject matter when it came to their lyrics, but what happened after the completion of their much anticipated debut album could never have been foreseen.

Shockingly, the original masters of Fearful Symmetry were seized by the Swedish government and members were detained, questioned and eventually released.

The members of THE HIDDEN have only speculated on why their masters were seized and to their knowledge had been destroyed. Whatever the reason might have been, the ultimate mystery still remains to this day. Surprisingly, a second copy of THE HIDDEN’s debut album was recently exhumed. While the original engineer was cleaning out a store room he discovered an old filthy master reel, but, upon further investigation, realized what a treasure he had stumbled upon.

We all rejoice now that Fearful Symmetry can be released, nearly 14 years later, at what could be exactly right time considering how much of a resurgence thrash metal has seen in recent years. Maybe the mysterious government intervention was truly a blessing in disguise?

Most fans of cult/obscure metal remember Baltimore thrashers, HAVE MERCY, from their 1986 Combat Records’ Bootcamp release, Armageddon Descends. Guitarist Nick Ellingson departed soon after the EP’s release, going on to play in a few non-starter bands until 1988 when he once again crossed paths with former HAVE MERCY vocalist, Lonnie Fletcher.

ENFORCE was born soon after.

With the concept of the band in full swing, Ellington then called upon ex-Krybaby band mate and drummer, Cliff Saunders, to help round out the new group with bassist Jody Lewis. ENFORCE decidedly took a more melodic approach to their heavy metal attack, slowing the pace down drastically from Have Mercy’s thrashier style.

Influenced by groups like QUEENSRYCHE and CRIMSON GLORY, ENFORCE went on to craft two impressive demos (only 1 was ever released to the public before now). Despite gigging regularly in the Baltimore area, and opening for acts like DREAM THEATER, ENFORCE could never land a proper record deal. The injustice has finally been rectified with this Divebomb Records collection, The Final Sign. If anything, the songs on this CD prove that the indie labels of the early ‘90s, and their myopic A&R agents, truly missed out on inking one of the better bands of their day.

Germany’s SUPERIOR released several critically acclaimed progressive metal albums in the mid to late ‘90s, but what most fans don’t know is that it all started with their 1989 Moral Alliance cassette.

Originally released seven years before their 1996 debut album, Behind, Moral Alliance first delivered their majestic style of power metal to the masses. Sure, everyone knows about the bigger German bands, but Moral Alliance (now celebrating its 25th anniversary) effortlessly ranks up there with other classics like Walls of Jericho, Heading for Tomorrow and Hypertrace. This era was short-lived with all but two members departing the group before they decided to alter directions creatively.

Regardless of the stylistic changes SUPERIOR went through, it’s now 25 years later and fans of classic power metal consider Moral Alliance one of the most underrated releases of their beloved genre.

As a bonus this limited release contains several live tracks recorded at SUPERIOR’s 20th anniversary shows. The songs were originally written during the Moral Alliance era, but were never properly recorded until the band took the stage to celebrate the cassette’s original release.

Formed in 1986 by high school buddies Ken Andrews (OBITUARY) and Matt Riley, AZRAEL released a pair of demos early during their run (1987’s Azrael and 1988’s Welcome), but it wasn’t until Brian Christopher, Steve Zentner and Bob Koeble (Death) joined in 1989 and 1990, respectively, that things really began to gel for the group. The new lineup began demoing material while honing their live chops opening for such acts as DEATH ANGEL, REVEREND, EXODUS, and VICIOUS RUMORS.

Recording most of the songs that would eventually become Television Slave in 1990, AZRAEL originally opted to use the material exclusively for promotional purposes, sending the cassettes to record labels. As time passed, and with no label interest in sight, they decided to go back and tweak out the recordings for a proper cassette release in 1992. The group sold all 1,000 copies of Television Slave they had pressed, which is remarkable because by that time, the music industry was definitely shifting away from heavy metal. AZRAEL noticed this change, leading to their decision to disband soon after.

The limited edition CD release contains not only the original 7 tracks contained on the Television Slave cassette (newly mastered from original digital sources), but also several additional recordings made during that period that have never been released. Also, as a bonus, we have included their 1988 cassette release, Welcome.

Arriving on the Los Angeles music scene in the late ‘80s, EROTIKILL was a band poised for success. As far as the succeeding in the industry was concerned, the band was doing everything right. Not only did they pound the pavement, they also had the glossy promo photos, 4 songs recorded by Joe Floyd and full color advertisements in all the best metal magazines. But something just never clicked for the group with record labels.

EROTIKILL’s debut was originally titled Seek the Virgin, but changed to Virgin Speed by the time the 8-song cassette was released in 1990. The band had finally delivered their unique brand of speed metal to the masses, albeit, independently. Unfortunately, the metal scene at that time was littered with horror stories of mismanagement, and EROTIKILL found themselves at the end of a losing deal as well. While out on tour supporting the release of Virgin Speed, the group found out that tour support was no longer coming, and that their management had walked with all of their money. It was a death blow very few bands survive, including EROTIKILL.

The limited edition Divebomb Records CD release contains the original 8 tracks contained on the Virgin Speed cassette (newly mastered from original digital sources), and as a bonus we have included an audio interview conducted with the band back in 1990.

Rhode Island’s WITCH MEADOW fought tooth and nail through the ‘90s during a period where heavy metal was no longer the powerhouse genre it had been the previous decade. The fact that they were isolated from the influential New York and New Jersey metal scenes helped the group craft tunes that successfully merged styles without fear of outside pressure.

Even with the deck stacked against them, WITCH MEADOW were still able to deliver two amazing independent releases: 1995’s When Midnight Falls and 1997’s Down Eternity’s Hall. Featuring equal bits of classic metal and early power metal combined with a hard rock crunch akin to vintage MOTLEY CRUE, WITCH MEADOW were definitely forging their own path. The band also had the habit of inviting their die-hard local fans to their practice space to watch them perform due to a lack of local venues supporting heavy metal acts. The group always found a way to get their music heard, that is, until they officially disbanded in 2000.

The limited edition WITCH MEADOW release contains both When Midnight Falls and Down Eternity’s Hall on one CD, remastered from the band’s own source audio files.

THE HORDE OF TORMENT had the songs, energy, and drive to succeed on a large scale, but despite all of the attention the band received from the heavy metal press of their era, they never locked down a record deal during their time together. Hailing from the flourishing late 80’s Texas metal scene OBSCENE JESTER were a hard working metal band who slugged it out all over the tri-state area always looking to expand their growing fanbase. In 1989 they released the Citadel’s On Fire cassette to much local acclaim and not wanting to lose any momentum began work on a follow up full length album. However, while in the process of recording that full length album something within the OBSCENE JESTER camp went awry and sadly enough it was never properly finished.

This Bootcamp Series reissue collects the original Citadel’s On Fire cassette release as well as 11 bonus tracks taken from the only known copy of mix references for their unfinished album. Following the release of their debut album Hell House in 1988, HOLOSADE ran into all sorts of member departures (Simon “Jack Hammer” Jones taking up rhythm guitar for SABBAT and Damien “Michael” Lee jumping behind the kit of Scarborough rockers LITTLE ANGELS). The future became so uncertain that in 1991 they eventually drifted into a hiatus.

Fast forward to 1994, Phillip de Sade (vocals) and Gary Thomas (guitar) decide to get together to record the last batch of songs the group had worked up before it’s hiatus. Joining them once again was Simon Jones along with newer members Andy Barker (drums), Steve Wright (bass) and Fred Purser from Tygers of Pan Tang on the keyboards. This new and revamped HOLOSADE recorded 12 songs that was a perfect follow-up to Hell House, but the industry had changed and they couldn’t find a label to support them or the release of A Circle Of Silent Screams. So, the recordings sat unreleased for 20 years, until now.

Chicago’s AFTERMATH are celebrating their 30th anniversary with the release of their now legendary demo Killing The Future. This will be the first time these recordings are available in North America. Once considered “too damn fast” by Don Kaye of Kerrang! AFTERMATH quickly became a front-runner within the newly birthed 80s crossover movement.

Creating so much buzz within the industry AFTERMATH were included as part of Metal Forces magazine’s Demolition - Scream Your Brains Out LP release which showcased other upcoming (now quite notable) acts of the that time such as ANACRUSIS, ATROPHY, HOBBS’ ANGEL OF DEATH and LEVIATHAN. Though their eventual artistic evolution would steer them away from the neck-breaking speed of Killing The Future AFTERMATH are still held in high regard as one of the crossover champions of the era.

This Bootcamp Series reissue collects not only the original Killing The Future cassette release, but Demo #1 as well. All audio was transferred from original 2 track master reels, a first, and remastered by Paul Logus. Cover art is a faithful recreation of the original Killing The Future cassette release.

Legendary metal label, Combat Records, began their Boot Camp series in the mid-80’s as an affordable way to test the market for newer bands of interest. Over twenty years later we at Divebomb Records, who were highly influenced by the original series, decided to pick up the torch and kick start our own brand of the Bootcamp Series.

MINDS EYE formed in Baltimore, MD in 1991, drawing inspiration from hard rock and metal legends old and new —LED ZEPPELIN and RUSH, JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA and PANTERA, etc. The early- to mid-’90s may have been a time of upheaval for some facets of the metal scene, but MINDS EYE stayed the course, utilizing their diverse range of influences to develop a truly unique sound that brings to mind everyone from MERCYFUL FATE to WRATHCHILD AMERICA—with a tactful dash of the vaguely grunge-tinged aesthetic that would make such an impact just a few years later.

The group self-released its 10-song debut full-length in 1992, and spent the next eight years heavily promoting MINDS EYE on stage and through the underground press—achieving some notoriety throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia by way of opening slots for such eclectic acts as SAVATAGE, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, and HUMBLE PIE

Compilation appearances on collections such as Diamonds in the Rough and Seattle Sucks would follow, but an appealing recording contract never crossed the band’s path, leaving their second and final album, Minds Eye 2000, unreleased... until now!

Divebomb Records is delighted to announce The Awakening: the complete 18-track discography of MINDS EYE to date. Compiling both the Minds Eye and the previously unreleased Minds Eye 2000 albums—fully remastered by Jamie King at The Basement Recording—alongside archival photographs and an all-new retrospective interview with the band. OBLIVION formed in 1984 in Toms River, NJ when the band’s core members were still in high school. Heavily influenced by the savage thrash of SLAYER, etc., within a year the talented young group had issued a high-quality demo and quickly began to capture the interest of legendary labels such as Combat, Metal Blade, and Roadrunner.

Over the course of the near-decade that followed, OBLIVION would weather a number of lineup changes and go on to release an impressive seven demos between 1985 and 1990. With time, the band logically injected their initial take on raw, ferocious thrash with more technical and melodic influences, as well as an occasionally streamlined hardcore/punk attack—no surprise given OBLIVION’s lineup ties to other cult New Jersey crossover/hardcore acts such as LETHAL AGGRESSION and SOCIAL DECAY.

However, like so many promising metal bands of the time period, their wealth of output; support from zines, tape traders, and radio; and interest from a slew of record companies—among them major label MCA—were simply not enough. OBLIVION failed to secure a proper recording contract and came to an end in the early-’90s, as their once-ceaseless dedication finally wore out...

But now, decades later, Divebomb Records is delighted to announce Cyclogenesis: Songs for Armageddon. This massive double-CD collection includes all seven OBLIVION demos—Oblivion (1985), Intention to Kill (1985), Back to Maim (1987), Intoxicated With Agony!! (1988), War Gives Me Peace of Mind? (1988), Why Did Johnny Kill (1989), and Contents Under Pressure (1990)—for a total of 35 tracks, fully remastered by Jamie King at The Basement Recording. Friends and musical kinsmen of recent Divebomb Records recruits SKEPTIC SENSE, VARIX was first born in southwestern Germany in 1988 under the all-too-popular name of SUFFOCATION. Eventually settling upon the less common moniker of VARIX in 1991, the group would gradually bolster its lineup with former members of fellow little-known Germans ANNOY, EXCRUCIATOR, and TOXIC REFUSE over the course of three demos (and a compilation appearance on Rave Music’s Peace-Eater Vol. IV) between 1991 and 1995.

VARIX concocted a uniquely quirky brand of complex yet melodic thrash metal built upon an eclectic blend of influences that included rock, metal, hardcore/punk, alternative, and even blues. This breadth of musical interests was also represented in a range of lyrical topics that stretched from horror and psychological struggles to societal concerns and anti-war pleas for peace.

Beginning with Morbus Cron (1991) and Tribute to Fate (1993), the band’s efforts culminated with 1995’s Harmonic Distortion—focusing their energy into a heavier, darker, and more mature direction. Unfortunately, subtle

disagreements over the technicality of the material—coupled with continual lineup instability—brought VARIX’s days to an end by early-1995.

Now, more than two decades later, Divebomb Records is thrilled to present the complete 10-song discography from these sorely overlooked German thrashers in the form of Morbid Tribute To Distortion. Fully remastered by Jamie King at The Basement Recording, the package also includes lyrics, archival photos, and a retrospective band interview conducted by NoEcho.net co-editor Andrew Aversionline. In 1990, FAITH COLLAPSING formed in Wilmington, NC out of a love for aggressive, challenging music that maintained musical integrity while possessing a thematic message. The early-’90s were a time of much disparity in the rock world, with MÖTLEY CRÜE, POISON, and CINDERELLA dominating MTV’s daytime slots; but it was the success of Headbangers Ball playing videos by METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER, and ANTHRAX that caught FAITH COLLAPSING’s attention.

Building upon those influences—as well as similarities to acts such as FORBIDDEN or fellow North Carolina natives CONFESSOR—FAITH COLLAPSING spent the next several years honing their sound through diligent rehearsals and a relentless live schedule (including opening slots for CROWBAR, SAVATAGE, NILE, WHITE ZOMBIE, and more) that often saw the band performing as many as three sets per night!

Demos were recorded in 1991 and 1993, before FAITH COLLAPSING set to work on their full-length debut in 1995 with Dick Hodgin - whom the band had admired for his work on CORROSION OF CONFORMITY’S Technocracy and

some of CONFESSOR’S early demos. The result was Lost: an impassioned 10-song journey that has withstood trends for two decades - continuing to capture a new, global audience of power/thrash metal fans.

Divebomb Records is thrilled to unleash this expanded reissue of Lost—complete with 1993’s The Whisper demo, as well as a previously unreleased pre-production track called “Prodigal Son”—fully remastered by Jamie King at The Basement Recording. The 20 page booklet also includes lyrics; archival photographs; and an in-depth, band-penned FAITH COLLAPSING biography.
