After arriving in Stone Town, the guide will introduce you to all the

buildings of interest and famous viewpoints. Stone town and its

buildings are full of history and stories of the ancient times when

Sultans, Arabs, Europeans and Zanzibaris wrote the history of this

beautiful island. You will visit the Anglican Cathedral and the Slave

markets, the Palace of the Sultans, Tip Tip’s House, the Old Arabic

Fort, Forodhani Park and of course the famous Zanzibar Doors

while walking in the petite streets. We will show you Henna Art

and bring you to the fruit and vegetable market. So be prepared

for a walk through the long history of Zanzibar and its numerous

rulers.

introduction in how to cook Swahili style with our many spices -

Swahili cooking at its best!! Then you will enjoy a delicious Swahili

style buffet lunch. After lunch, you will enjoy a tour through the

farm learning about each and every spice you can find on Zanzibar.

You wouldn’t believe it if you haven’t seen it for yourself; did you

know that the Cinnamon Tree has 3 different smells? After you

BUTTERFLY CENTER – tropical beauty

The beautiful Zanzibar Butterfly Centre, near Jozani- Chwaka Bay National

Park, contains all native species to Zanzibar. Butterfly farming in Zanzibar

requires an intact forest, thus providing an economic incentive to conserve

habitats. Zanzibari women have the rare opportunity to participate, as

farming can be carried out at home fitted around childcare and domestic

duties. Feed the butterflies and watch them fly close at hand while enjoying

the peace and quiet of nature.

JOZANI FOREST – our jungle and our unique monkeys

After a further 3 minute drive you arrive at Jozani National Park. During a

guided journey through the forest you will quickly learn about the different

species of monkeys unique to Zanzibar (and yes, without a thumb). After

your forest tour and a short hop to the other side of the national park,

there is an opportunity to uncover the magical world of the Zanzibari

Mangroves. A walk along the wooden trail and you will see the thousands of

crabs at work under the mangroves and if you’re lucky you might even be

able to hear the mangroves talking. See for yourself.

SEAWEED CENTER– Zanzibar’s second largest industry

You will visit the Seaweed Center to learn about Seaweed farming. Located in

Paje, this social enterprise creates opportunities for female seaweed farmers to

improve their standard of living and engage in economic development activities

that benefit the whole community. Depending on the tide, you will see how

the women harvest their seaweed and understand the hard work that

encompasses a seaweed famer's daily life. Afterwards you will gain insight in

the processing centre and factory located in the village. Here you get the rare

opportunity to see how the seaweed gets transformed into desirable beauty

products like organic soaps and essential oils.

PETE TOUR – Rural tales

We start this excursion by touring Pete Village in the South of Zanzibar. Pete

is one of the larger villages on Unguja (Zanzibar). Pete means “ring” in

Swahili. The village acquired this name from a very fascinating rural legend –

one of many you’ll learn about on your tour.

At Pete Village, you’ll visit a cave, the home of a traditional healer, hear the

story behind the “Well of Jealousy” and take a ride on an oxcart - how

exciting!

Experience the traditional day to day life of a Zanzibar village and get a

Prison Island is so called because of its first usage as a prison, which was

built in 1893. But in fact it was later used as a quarantine hospital and is

nowadays the home to the giant tortoises which were banned from the

This truly is a unique experience!! Tumbatu is one of Zanzibar’s best kept secrets, as the vast majority is forbidden to set foot on the Island. To enter

the island you need special permission from the elders of the community on Tumbatu. People call the Watumbatu – inhabitants of Tumbatu - aloof

and unfriendly, just because they are living as a very close, self- supporting community. You won’t find cars or scooters and Tumbatu has only one

road to walk on within the island, even though they are living on the island where in the 11th century the Shiraz built the first stone building in the

entire Zanzibar Archipelago.

MAALE - Sandbank

Leaving from Mkokotoni by boat you are heading to the fishing territories of the Watumbatu, the citizens of Tumbatu. One of the oldest fishermen

within the Watumbatu will show out at sea, towards the sandbank of Tumbatu how they fish with nets and traps. Fishing is the major revenue of the

island, though the Watumbatu don’t eat too much fish themselves. They trade with their fish in the nearby fishing village Mkokotoni. After you have

witnessed the special techniques of the Watumbatu, which have the reputation of being the best sailors in the region you move on and head towards

the village Jongowe, on the South of Tumbatu Island.

JONGOWE – learn the Watumbatu life

After arriving at the beach of Jongowe, you will see how the Watumbatu prepare their fishing nets, fish traps and also how they build and maintain

their boats – all by hand! In a short walk you will arrive at the school of Jongowe and learn about who built the school and the importance of the

huge and old Baobab trees to the community. You will see the difference between new and old sections of the village and you will visit the house of a

fisherman’s family. We will show you the unspoken secrets of Tumbatu, as they are world famous for witch craft.

TUMBATU – special information:

As Tumbatu is a very special excursion and only possible based on the trust of the elders with their community of Tumbatu, we would like to provide a

little extra information for the benefit of all, of which you should pay attention:

Please note that you may have to walk knee deep in the sea, while entering the boat or reaching the island, depending on the tides. Therefore,

➢ You need waterproof shoes and clothes which can be wet, but no beach wear!

The Watumbatu are very religious and do not accept our type of clothes.

➢ You have to wear a Kanga around your hip and for women a scarf/ kanga to cover your hair! NOT allowed is beachwear or shoulder free T

shirts! Best is a wide trouser or long pair of shorts with a Polo Shirt or T Shirt!

As we are almost the whole time on or near the sea without a shade, sun protection and a hat are very important!

We start this excursion by touring Pete Village in the South of Zanzibar .

Pete is one of the larger villages on Unguja (Zanzibar). Pete means “ring”

in Swahili. The village acquired this name from a very fascinating rural

legend – one of many you’ll learn about on your tour.

At Pete Village, you’ll visit a cave, the home of a traditional healer, hear

the story behind the “Well of Jealousy” and take a ride on an oxcart - how

exciting!

Menai Bay

Leaving from Fumba, which is in the South East and still a very untouched

and remote area in Zanzibar, you will head on a trip in traditional wooden

dhows towards your first snorkel stop. On the way you will hopefully

meet Dolphins, playing around in the shallow Marine Park of Menai Bay.

After enjoying the beautiful underwater world of Zanzibar with your

snorkelling guide you head towards a second snorkelling stop. The reefs

surrounding the sand bank are your second snorkelling trip; the

underwater world will seem very different compared to your first stop.

Enjoy the short trip with your boat towards your final stop where you

reach the beautiful island Kwale, and our crew will be waiting for you!

Mangroves

Depending on the tides we may stop in a very special place, where our

boats are taking you into the world of an island full of mangroves for a

swim. The tidal lagoon has centuries of history stored in its coral. It’s a

different swimming experience with warm waters and a stunning location

SNORKELING - Mnemba Kitchwani Coral Reef

After heading with your dhow from Kendwa to the stunning

Mnemba Atoll and with every possibility of dolphins on the way,

you will stop at Mnemba Kitchwani Reef for your first snorkelling

stop. This amazing reef, with steep slopes offers some great under

water topography and a chance to see amazing corals and a lot of

fish. Snorkelling session is roughly 45-60 Minutes. A snorkel guide

is of course also in the water, pointing out all of the little

camouflage and the tricks most people’s eyes miss.

SNORKELING – Mnemba Coral Gardens

After a 20 minutes boat travel from Kitchwani Reef you will arrive

at the Mnemba Coral Gardens. Here you will snorkel for 45 minutes

to 1 hour. These coral gardens are home to many species of

aquarium fish and stunning soft and hard corals.

LUNCH – Mouth-watering BBQ at Muyuni Beach

After your second snorkelling trip you are heading from Mnemba

Atoll to the opposite side, an area called Muyuni Beach. Here you

can enjoy your lunch with fruit and drinks, and a mouth-watering

sea food and mixed grill BBQ. You will have ample time after your

lunch to relax on this beautiful secluded beach before your trip

continues with a sail back to Kendwa
