Our ProgramKey to Your Success
Learning in ContextExecutives in particular must understand the big picture. That is why the University of St.Gallen’s class modules focus on practical solutions to real world business problems (instead of on abstract legal theories). Together, candidates and instructors tackle questions of business law, taking into account the relevant legal, economic, historical, social and cultural frame work. Our presence in the leading world economies of Europe, America and Asia provides candidates with relevant global perspectives.
Classroom Studies: The Coaching SystemThe core topics of European and international business law are taught in nine attendance modules. Discussion with international experts and among candidates themselves is a key element in the learning process, as is the chairpersons’ model. Candidates are in constant contact with the chairpersons throughout each module, which helps to ensure the timeliness and practical relevance.Case studies, individual course work and team efforts are essential parts of each module. This helps to ensure that candidates can directly apply their new knowledge in their everyday work. Every module is completed with an exam, the form of which alternates between written and oral and individual and group.Negotiating skills and strategies are essential, not just for lawyers but for executives as well. For this reason, the University of St. Gallen has partnered with Harvard Law School. In a fee-based module, you will acquire the skills needed to analyze, prepare and conduct negotia-tions based on the Harvard concept of “Getting to Yes.”
Self-Studies: Preparing for the ModulesCandidates prepare for the modules using a multimedia, password-protected learning platform. This guarantees that they can complete essential parts of their training at their own place, from anywhere in the world. For self-study, all relevant documentation is supplied in advance. We provide mentoring and monitor candi-dates’ progress as they work through the content. Before starting a new module, candidates complete a writing assignment in the form of a brief, a summary, or a case solution; or they write a critique of a piece of literature, a decision, or a judgment.
Diploma ThesisIn their diploma theses, candidates analyze a current problem of European or international business law according to academic standards. Topics are proposed by the faculty, or candidates can choose a problem provided it is accepted by us. The work is supervised by a member of the faculty. The thesis demonstrates that the candidate has sufficient knowledge of European and international business law to independently develop sound, comprehensive solutions to practical problems.
Your Effort. Your SuccessOnce you have successfully passed six modules, completed the entire course, and your thesis has been accepted, you are awarded the title of “Executive Master of European and International Business Law E.M.B.L.-HSG.” This is an internationally respected degree that also gives graduates access to the unique alumni networks of the Executive M.B.L.-HSG and the University of St.Gallen.
European Law Reporter ELR Last but not least, for the duration of the course candi-dates will receive a complimentary subscription to the international journal “European Law Reporter.“
