EXELAND AREA ASSOCIATION NEWS The Exeland Area Association has added new features to the Swan Creek Park Veteran Memorial. A metal-work statue of a kneeling soldier now sets on a new brick and cement platform. A black POW-MIA flag has also been added to the flag pole. The work was spearheaded by Alan & Deb Hart and Steve Roelse who donated all of their time to this great project. They received additional help from Riley Warner and Kayla Larsen. The project was funded by the Shimko families and the Erv Englebrecht Memorial in memory of Sonny Shimko. The finishing touches were made possible through a donation by the Exeland Women’s Legion Auxiliary. EAA President Jim Gerber commented, “It’s a great addition that enhanced our tribute to all veterans who have served our country. The new POW-MIA flag reminds us never to forgetthose who are still missing while at war. We’re very proud of the addition and send out big a big thank you to everyone who helped fund or worked on the project.” The EAA recently donated $200 to the Senior Resources Center. A new “Welcome to Exeland” sign will be added to greet visitors at the village limits on County Road C. EAA officials remarked, “Since the new ATV trails opened west of town we have a lot of new traffic coming in from that direction. Many of them enter our community and aren’t aware of it. Time to properly say “hello” as they enter our town. The Association once again organized the annual parade for the Trout Fest. Janet Gerber and Sandy Dantzman did a great job putting it together. The parade was as classy as ever. A big thank you goes out to Dean & Mary Johnson who did an outstanding job putting together the nice patriotic float for the Association. The annual Community Picnic and Baseball Tourney held over the July 4th weekend were both successful and the organization made some money. Thank you to everyone who made this event so great! Also, a big thank you to Pat Koranda of Weirgor who donated two guns to be raffled off. The raffle made the organization $600. Thank you to Chippewa Valley Bank for the $500 donation to the EAA. It will be put to good use and is always appreciated. The Exeland Area Association held their “election of officers” for 2019 – 2021. Results are: PRESIDENT: Jim Gerber; VICE PRESIDENT: Ellie Welling; SECRETARY: Sandy Dantzman; TREASURER: Janet Gerber. At their September business meeting the Association announced there would be no quarterly meeting in December. This caused Yogi Berra to comment, “The Exeland Area Association has three quarterly meetings a year.” HISTORY MUSEUM The History Museum, located on Main Street, will be open from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 7. This will be the final time the museum will be opened this year. If you haven’t stopped in to see all of the displays it is worth your time to visit. No fee is charged and you can stay as long as you want. If you have any family history you would like to add to museum we’re always looking for new items. EXELAND ROD & GUN CLUB NEWSThe Rod & Gun Club made a nice donation to the Scope Family Fun Day held in Hayward in early September.

The Club made a $2,000 donation to help fund the new ATV trail that runs from the Rock Castle to Exeland.ATV’s are allowed on the Weirgor Road so now you’re able to travel from Exeland all the way to the TuscobiaTrail near Couderay.

Prior to the Trout Fest the Club tore down the old home run fence at the softball park and replaced it with animpressive new one. They also purchased 10 new picnic tables. President Al Gerber stated, “Some more niceimprovements to our grounds. The fence sure made our softball field better for the teams that play on it. Thepicnic tables have a multi-purpose use. We can use them for seating at Trout Fest events such as the lawnmower races. They also can be used when there are big events in the pavilion and we need more seating. Wecontinue to make improvements and certainly have one of the nicest facilities in the area.”

The Exeland Rod & Club has made a huge improvement to the beach on the north side of Windfall Lake byhauling in nice white sand. This was the dream of club member Bimbo Gifford. Bimbo, who chaired theproject, said, “The beach was in rough shape and this definitely is a huge improvement. I know the communitywill enjoy it a lot.” The Club would like to thank the Sawyer County Highway Dept. for their help and toMike Hopkins for donating the trucking to get the sand here. The Club will make repairs in the future to makesure the beach stays in good shape.

The Club is now looking into the cost to put a new dock into Windfall Lake. They hope to have this projectready to go by next spring.

While mowing the Exeland Nature Trail, President Al Gerber broke the Club’s lawn mower. Al said, “I swervedto miss a deer.” Not believing his story, club officials have hired Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller to do aninvestigation. Mueller said he’d have his investigation completed in 3 years.

The Club will be hosting their member’s only Hunter’s Ball on Friday, November 2nd. Any member whowould like to be part of the night should call Jim Gerber for more details. The event is limited to 50 peopleand is on a first come first serve basis.

The Club officers would like to extend a big thank you to Chippewa Valley Bank for the $500 that was madeto them.
