To consistently produce players who are bought by bigger clubs and go on to play a higher level of football than Exeter City FC.

Despite an ethos where all of our coaches at all of our age groups focus on the development of individual players and NOT team results, we believe the ‘process over outcome’ philosophy will

bring positive results on a regular basis anyway

ECFC Under 21’s reached the Quarter Final of the inaugural Premier League Cup competition, beating Torquay, Crystal

Palace, Southampton and Blackburn along the way

ECFC Under 18’s won the Football League Youth Alliance South West division


How do we intend to achieve our long term goals?

A Phd is the football equivalent of a Professional contract. Very few parents ‘expect’ their son to achieve a Phd, but too many parents think their son will be

the next Wayne Rooney! Unrealistic expectations do not help!!


Managing Expectations at the


Success is one player a year progressing from the ECFC ADC South Devon to the

Performance Centre

It is unrealistic to expect numerous players from the South Devon ADC to jump 2 levels of the ‘player progression pathway’ and sign in the Academy each season.

Moving up the pyramid is a long term process and requires patience, commitment, hard work and dedication.

Vs

The competition (private soccer school) Lots of private soccer schools charge high fees with the promise of getting a young player into a professional club. Most of those soccer schools need to turn a profit because they are a business.

Our ADC programme does not need to turn a profit. We wish we could provide the training for free, but our Club is owned by the fans and struggles for finances, thus our Academy is under funded.

Therefore, although we need to charge for the training, our aim is merely to break even each season or to re-invest a small profit into new equipment, e.g. footballs.

And… in our opinion, the best pathway into a professional club is with… a professional club
