Tackling the Challenges in Avionics:
Businesses and professionals in the avionics industry have weathered an economic storm and emerged, in many cases, stronger and wiser.
Despite airlines finding market conditions to continue to be challenging, the avionics industry is buoyant due to the future orders of the airframers such as Airbus and Boeing. Much of the industry has emerging confidence in the coming months and years, as the Single European Sky initiative and NextGen continue to dominate the aerospace industry and challenge it to help increase capacity and improve traffic flow and safety in the sky.
Civil rotorcraft is expected to make a strong recovery, achieving a compound annual growth rate of seven percent through to 2016, compared to a decline (on the order of negative five percent) in 2010 and 2011, with the military rotorcraft market segment expected to maintain a strong plateau.
As avionics technology moves more and more toward a common platform, common control, and common data link, pressure will mount to convert and modernize many legacy unmanned aerial vehicles. UAV maintenance, repair, and overhaul will bring increased opportunities for providers of avionics systems, components, software, and services.
UAVs have been, and continue to be, a hotbed of avionics investment, innovation, and activity. In 2011 a market study estimates UAV spending will almost double over the next decade, from current worldwide UAV expenditures of $5.9 billion annually to $11.3 billion, totalling just over $94 billion in the next 10 years.
The business aircraft segment is another bright spot, predicted to log a 9.8 percent compound annual growth rate through to 2016. Providers of business aircraft, avionics, and avionics service and support are already reporting growth.
Avionics Europe is the annual gathering of the avionics industry to discuss the commercial and defence aerospace challenges and demonstrate the latest technologies for a safer, more secure aerospace industry.
Single Sky Many Platforms
Avionics Europe enjoyed a 10% increase in attendance in 2012.
