Exiled from the Land of Israel the Jewish people remained faithful to it in all the countries of their dispersion, never ceasing to pray and hope for their return and the restoration of their national freedom.

The Mitzvah of eating matzah induces humility and subdues man’s natural egotism and desire for self-gratification. This mitzvah instils the feeling of Hashem’s presence deep into our hearts and souls. Eating matzah arouses within us the desire to submit ourselves totally to G-d’s will. We are His slaves and His alone, and not slaves of others, who are slaves themselves.
- Harav Ya’akov Moshe Charlap z”l
I, as practically all Soviet Jews, was absolutely assimilated. I knew nothing about our language, about our history, about our religion. But the pride of being a Jew, the pride for our State of Israel after the six day war, made me feel free from that big Soviet prison.

“The Exodus is the inexhaustible source of inspiration to all those who long for freedom. It taught that right was sovereign over might; that freedom and justice must belong to all, not some; that, under God, all human beings are equal; and that over all earthly powers is the supreme power, the King of Kings, who hears the cry of the oppressed and who intervenes in history to liberate slaves. “

Vanquished in exile, we were oppressed for hundreds of years by cruel masters. But our inner soul is imbued with the spirit of freedom. Were it not for the wondrous gift of the Torah, bestowed upon us when we left Egypt to eternal freedom, the long exile would have reduced our spirits to the mindset of a slave. But on the festival of freedom, we openly demonstrate that we feel ourselves to be free in our very essence. Our lofty yearnings for that which is good and holy are a genuine reflection of our essential nature.
— Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kook
